Champaign, Illinois emcee GATSON has more range than Steve Kerr did back with the Chicago Bulls. GATSON with over five years of releasing music has become one of the more consistent acts that we have in music today. Organically, through the strength of his own talent and business minded acumen you can go almost anywhere in the world and the name GATSON evokes memories of the passion and raw energy he brings to every show.
GATSON’s true introduction to hip-hop was through his sister who would play Tupac’s “All Eyez On Me”. “I used to rap Tupac lyrics all the time, and I seen the influence had,” GATSON recalls, “plus I always could vision his songs. That’s when I started writing poetry.” What started off as a hobby, rooted GATSON’s love for writing turned into something bigger early on in our hero’s life. “In 2009 my friend Kiwane Carrington was murdered by Champaign police when we were 15,” GATSON says, “So I started using music as a way to tell his Story and to potentially help others battling depression.”
“Peace...I want them to walk away in a better mental space then they were in before pressing play,” GATSON says. This comes out in every verse and track GATSON is on, his passion and genuine care for the people, make him more than an artist. Don’t get it twisted though, his technical ability and way with words can’t be overstated, remember GATSON started as a poet, first and foremost. GATSON’s music captures the appeal of all because he’s influenced by a diversity of genres and everything going on outside.
The world has taken notice as well, with albums like “Free Agency Era” and “Blessed to Become a Blessing” GATSON has been prolific with his output. This is before the release of GATSON’s latest endeavor, a three track EP that has the Illinois artist grabbing production credits. Meanwhile, he’s racked up over 30K listens across all platforms, is getting covered by Respect, Hip N More, while simultaneously performing all over the world at the likes of Opening for Earthgang, A3C, Tucson Hip Hop Festival, The Netherlands, Canada the list goes on and on. As you’re reading this GATSON is preparing a new full-length album for the masses and itching to get back on tour in front of his fans.
