Cecil Park’s fluid and melodic sounds are delivered in a solid acoustic, alternative-metal framework that leaves the listener guessing: is this mellow or does it rock? We’re still not sure. All we know is that we love the sound. Their self-titled debut is the brainchild of band leader Mark Cantanzriti aka Brutus, whose enigmatic and philosophical poetry seems to be trying tell us something. Brutus is also the guitar player and singer of the band. Adam Weaver on percussions provides solid beats and good bass lines are created by James Young and now Ben Poore. This trio creates tight grooves, good hooks and captivating lyrics. The instrumentation throughout the collection is vibrant skillful and well produced. ‘River The Same’ is the opening track; it sets the tone for this CD that has a nice mellow flow. It is also a good example of Brutus’ poetic style. ’Lisa’ has an intriguing sound and haunting words. ‘None For Two’ is the story of the pain of a broken relationship with very catchy drums. Join Brutus and the band for a stroll through the ethereal haze that covers most songs. Wander through tales of paradise lost in the Eden-like 'Peace in Pavilions' and discover the spiritual declaration of 'No Liaisons.' Every one of the album’s twelve tracks is a winner with solid production and musical surprises emerge throughout. Overall Cecil Park is an enjoyable collection of songs from talented musicians and a good songwriter.
