Cardiff (Wales, UK) based music collective recording 2002-2007.
Twenty years ago, between 2002 and 2007, working out of a bedroom studio on an estate in
Pontprennau, Cardiff, producer Wayne ‘Pro-Juice’ Liddell recorded tracks with over twenty singers
and musicians from the St. Mellons, Trowbridge, Grangetown, Llanrumney and Llanedeyrn areas
of Cardiff, a load of rappers from Barry and one stray pop singer from Trebanog in the Rhondda.
Working under the collective name of K-Diff Syndicate, Pro-Juice captured their lives, experiences,
relationships and struggles in a diverse range of genres, including soul, reggae, pop, hip-hop,
garage, DnB and RnB. Their songs provide an insight into life on the streets and estates of Cardiff
two decades ago but highlight that the issues and struggles faced then remain the same today.
Their music is released for the first time in 2022.
In 2005, the K-Diff Syndicate were selected for Radio 1Xtra's Home Grown project and won a PRS Foundation Award that culminated in a release of the single ‘Backstabber’ into FOPP record stores throughout the UK. Their first demo album, ‘Cityzenship’, was self-financed with only 200 copies produced. A second demo album ‘K-Diff City Life’ was funded by Community Music Wales.
20 years on, manager Alan Golding was sorting through an old box of CDs during his latest house move and stumbled across all of their tracks. He began listening and was amazed how many had stood the test of time... while finding it sad that they were not readily available for the singers and musicians - who had created them - to enjoy and share. He set about finding Pro-Juice and tracking down the singers.
Now the whole catalogue will be released onto all the digital platforms for the first time. It’s a collection that reflects urban Cardiff life at the time - remaining relevant for many today - and addresses subjects of financial hardship, environment, female power and independence, love and relationships, spiritualism and fast food.
