Originally from Florida, the Texas based Christian songwriter, record producer, singer and organist Myron Butler cut his first record Lift Me Up at the tender age of 17. The song was performed by the DFW Mass Choir from Texas and during the time in the studio a friendship developed between Butler and choir director Chris Franklin. Around this period Butler formed a community choir which later became God's Property, a respected choral group with a strong following in the Dallas area. After completing school Butler studied psychology in Atlanta but quit shortly after his freshman year returning to Texas where he re-acquainted himself with Franklin and subsequently joining Franklin's group One Nation Crew. It was a short-lived project with just one album to its name and a memorable performance at the 2000 Grammy Awards. During Butler's absence from Texas Franklin had previously enjoyed some success with God's Property recording the 1997 hit Stomp. After the demise of One Nation Crew, Butler decided to revive God's Property re-inventing the choir under the new name Levi. The choir went on to record three albums, the most successful being the debut 2005 release Set Me Free which went to number 18 in the US Gospel Charts.
