Biography

While his father was a soldier in Germany, Dooz Kawa discovered the Franco-American underground rap scene in his early teens, and soon afterwards Eastern European music. At the age of 16, he moved to Strasbourg and began writing his own songs, before founding the T-Kaï Cee collective two years later. In 2006, he met Gypsy guitar prodigy Biréli Lagrène, with whom he struck up a close friendship. This soon led to a collaboration on several tracks, and the following year he was invited to perform with him on stage in Alsace. He met another Gypsy guitarist, Mito, who offered to contribute to his album Étoiles du Sol, released in 2010. This was followed two years later by Message aux Anges Noirs. Archives, a free digital compilation of freestyles and B-sides, was released in 2013. That same year, Dooz Kawa launched a series of EPs entitled Narcozik. In 2016, following in the footsteps of Virus, Lino from the group Ârsenik, Ali and Kohndo, Dooz Kawa became the fifth rapper to be invited to the École Normale Supérieure, where he gave a lecture during a seminar entitled La plume et le bitume. That same year, he released a self-produced album entitled Bohemian Rap Story.
