Be Quiet. Shout Loud! are a five-piece feel good disco-punk band formed in Teesside, UK comprising Jake Radio (vocals), Dave Owens (bass), Chris Burton (keytar), Paul Morton (drums), and guitarist Jamie Donnelly who joined the group in 2017. To date the band have released numerous singles and been featured as BBC Introducing Track Of The Week and Amazing Radio’s New Music programme with ‘Superheroes’, ‘I Won’t Sing 4 U’ and ‘Answerphone’ and have played live extensively throughout the north of England including Twisterella Festival, Stockton Calling, Barnsley Live, Lindisfarne Festival and Olgas Rock in Germany. The band have also recently supported the likes of The Southmartins (at Middlesbrough’s iconic Town Hall) and Red Rum Club as well as Toyah, Electric Six and Fickle Friends and they are known as one of the region’s hardest working bands. The band’s recent EPs, Another Commotion in 2018 and last year’s Fake Emergency, have seen a shift towards a more rounded and mature sound with the logical next step being a full album as the band look to broaden their horizons both musically and geographically.
While the band’s energetic live performances (complete with confetti canon, lasers and sequined pants) have won them many plaudits it is their recorded output that conjures a wealth of influences from Kiss, Bee Gees and early-Queen to contemporaries like The Killers and Kaiser Chiefs; to Colin MacInnes and Irvine Welsh; and to Blade Runner and The Warriors. Classic rock riffs jostle with disco beats and euphoric synths while lyrical themes of going out and staying in persist along with a backstory written in nightclubs and green rooms.
The band’s debut album will be released in May this year and should see the band cement their reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting alternative independent acts.
