Biography

Isabelle Faust is an internationally acclaimed classical violinist lauded for what critics have called her intellectual curiosity and pure tone. She is professor of violin at the Berlin University of the Arts and tours regularly with top orchestras around the world performing works by Beethoven, Brahms, Dvorák and Schumann as well as contemporary composers including Werner Egk, Olivier Messiaen and Jörg Widmann. She learned to play the violin as a child, entered competitions and won the 1987 Mozart Competition in Austria while in her teens. She won the 1993 Paganini Competition in Italy in 1993, performed with top orchestras, gave chamber music recitals and made her American debut with the Utah Symphony Orchestra in 1995.

Her first album, 'Bartók: Violin Sonatas', was released in 1997 and Gramophone Magazine named her Young Artist of the Year. She has made many albums since then including 'J.S. Bach: Sonatas & Partitas: BWV 1004-1006', which peaked at number 20 on Billboard's Classical Albums Chart in 2010 and 'Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto Symphony No. 5/The Hebrides' with the Freiburger Barockorchester conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado, which reached number 25 in 2017.
