Light Asylum, a synth-pop band from Brooklyn, was formed in 2007 by Shannon Funchess. The group initially began as a solo project with various guest musicians before evolving into a duo when Bruno Coviello joined after they discovered shared musical interests during a tour opening for Bunny Rabbit. Their debut EP, In Tension, was released independently in 2010 and later reissued by Mexican Summer in 2011, featuring the hit single "Dark Allies". The band's self-titled debut album Light Asylum, released in 2012, included singles such as "Shallow Tears", "Heart of Dust", and "A Certain Person". Following the departure of Coviello, Raphael Radna joined on keyboard and programming. Light Asylum continued touring extensively across the United States and Europe before Radna's eventual exit. The band is known for its distinctive sound, blending elements of dark wave, synth-pop from the 1980s, and electronic music with Funchess' deep, soulful vocals.
