Biography

Third Day were an American Christian rock band formed in Marletta, Georgia in 1991, celebrating many hit records with 16 albums on the Billboard 200 including seven in the top ten. They earned eleven Grammy Award nominations and achieved four wins. In early 2018, the three remaining members of the band - co-founders Mac Powell and Mark Lee and drummer David Carr - announced that they would disband following a farewell American tour saying they wished to pursue other ventures.

Powell and Lee began performing while still at high school and with guitarist August McCoy and keyboard player Billy Wilkins gained a regional reputation as Third Day. McCoy and Wilkins left in the early 1990s and the line-up has featured several artists over the years including guitarist Brad Avery from 1995 to 2008 and bassist Tai Anderson from 1995 to 2015. Their eponymous debut album went to number eleven on the Christian Chart in 1996 followed by 'Conspiracy No. 5' (1997) which peaked at number two and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Gospel Album.

They won Grammy Awards with 'Wire' (2004), 'Wherever You Are' (2005), 'Come Together' (2001) and 'Live Revelations'. Their last album was 'Revival' which went to number two on the Christian Chart in 2017. Following the band's dissolution, Lee was expected to pursue writing and Carr photography while Powell said he would continue to perform and record with his band Mac Powell and the Family Reunion.
