Nnamdi Ogbonnaya, simply known as NNAMDÏ, is an American multi-instrumentalist, producer, and one of the co-founders of Chicago indie record label Sooper Records. Blurring the lines between R&B, hip-hop, and ambient, his work offers a refreshing, avant-garde take on contemporary urban music. A California native, he first moved to Ohio and spent his childhood years in Lansing, Illinois, with his Nigerian parents before relocating to Chicago. There, NNAMDÏ majored in electrical engineering at the University of Illinois and eventually became a staple of the Windy City’s booming indie scene, collaborating with like-minded independent artists such as Vagabon and Ratboys. He dropped his official studio debut, Bootie Noir, in 2013, and followed up with 2014’s Feckin Weirdo. Following the release of a third album titled Drool (2017), he rose to prominence thanks to the 2020 single “Wasted,” which was featured on the 2021 Netflix feature film Malcolm and Marie. The track was also included in NNAMDÏS fourth full-length, the eclectic, genre-hopping Brat, released in 2020.
