Alessandro Mahmoud aka Mahmood, born in Milan on September 12, 1992, is an Italian singer-songwriter of Egyptian origin. In 2012, he auditioned for the sixth season of the Italian version of the TV talent show X Factor. He was eliminated in the third episode and decided to take piano and music theory lessons. In 2013, he released his first song, "Fallin' Rain". Selected in the "hopefuls" section at the 2016 Sanremo festival, where he presented "Dimentica", he then became a composer for artists Elodie, Michele Bravi and Marco Mengoni. Following the release of the Gioventù Bruciata EP (2018), the man who describes his musical style as "Moroccan pop" won the Sanremo festival competition the following year with a new track written with Charlie Charles and Dardust, "Soldi". This victory enabled him to represent Italy at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv, Israel, where he came second to Duncan Laurence of the Netherlands. His debut album Gioventù Bruciata, released in February 2019, reaches number one in the Italian sales charts, as does the track "Soldi". In 2021, Mahmood releases his second album Ghettolimpo, which is revealed through the singles "Rapide" (No. 5), "Dorado" (No. 10), "Inuyasha" (No. 21) and "Rubini " (No. 81), recorded with singer Elisa. The following year, he returned to the top of the charts with "Brivi", a duet with Blanco, followed by Nei letti degli altri, his first No. 1 album, featuring duets with Geolier, Angèle, Capo Plaza, Chiello and Tedua, as well as the solo hits "Tuta Gold" (No. 1) and "Ra Ta Ta" (No. 6). The album finds the singer moving between R&B, rap, soul and urban pop.
