Biography

Although the name didn’t come to
the group for a couple of years, Revolverheld formed in Hamburg, Germany in
2003. Singer Johannes Strate, drummer Jakob Sinn, guitarists Niels Grötsch and Kristoffer Hünecke, and bass player
Florian Speer seasoned themselves in the city’s rich punk scene, but they established
themselves as rock stars with their debut album, 2005’s Revolverheld,
which included their debut single, “Generation Rock” as well as a trio
of top 20 hits—“Die Welt steht still”,“Mit dir chilln”, and “Freunde
bleiben”
, which would be Germany’s entry in the 2005 Eurovision Song
Contest. The album mixed elements of grunge with punk energy, and the 2007
follow-up Chaostheorie did even better on the charts, reaching number 3.
The next year, their single “Helden 2008”, which they recorded for a
major European football tournament, became their biggest hit to that time,
climbing to number 2. 2010’s In Farbe was their third top 10 album, and
contained their second top 10 single, “Halt dichan mir fest”, a
collaboration with Marta Jandová.
Speer departed in 2012, and replaced by Chris Rodriguez, but the band continued
unabated with 2013’s Immer in Bewegung, another top 10 album that held
three more top 10 singles including “Ich lass für dich das Licht an”,
which also hit number 3 in Austria. They took a four year hiatus, returning
with Zimmer mit Blick in 2018, an LP that did better than any of their
previous efforts hitting number 2. They were back on the charts in 2020 with
the single “Leichter”.
