Biography

Soraya Oliveira Rodrigues Moraes, widely known as Soraya Moraes, is a Brazilian gospel singer-songwriter, pastor, and author born on January 29, 1973, in São Paulo. Her musical journey began with the Protestant rock band Metanoya, recording the album Guerra in 1992. From 1994 to 1999, she was an integral part of the band Renascer Praise, gaining nationwide fame in the evangelical community thanks to their rendition of the song "Deus é Fiel." Pursuing a solo career in 1998, she released her debut album Pensando em Deus under the Gospel Records label. In 2000, Soraya Moraes recorded a Portuguese version of the Oscar-winning song "When You Believe" from the movie The Prince of Egypt. Her version, titled "Se Tu Quiseres Crer," enjoyed great popularity in Brazil and was included in her gold-selling sophomore effort Milagre, released later that year. After signing with Line Records in 2004, she returned with the internationally acclaimed album Deixa o Teu Rio me Levar, which won the Latin Grammy for Best Portuguese Language Christian Album in 2005. She would repeat the feat once more in 2008 with Som da Chuva, also winning Best Brazilian Song for the LP's title track and Best Christian Album (Spanish Language) for Tengo Sed de Ti. Over the following years, Soraya Moraes continued delivering her powerful message of hope and resilience on releases like Grande é o meu Deus (2009), Minha Esperança (2011), Céu na Terra (2013), and Shekinah (2016), her last full-length album for Sony Music. The EP Caminho no Deserto, her first release for Gospel Central, came out in 2018.
