I remember, age 3, to play w a blue plastic duck in a bathtub.
The duck didn't look real, it's shape wasn't right, there are no entirely blue ducks, beak included. It had no legs, but I used to like it.
Some people may be thinking: that explains it! If Jaime would have had a realistic looking swan he would be a great composer today, he would have ignored modern instruments like synthesizers and electric guitars! Since he played with a plastic duck we can't expect much from him...
Some other people may think that Jaime should have had a boat with a loud motor... that would have made him compose entirely for electric bass + guitar + drums, music to be thrown to the universe by large loudspeakers so everyone could hear it well for miles and miles...
Some other people may think that it was a waste to play with a duck, Jaime should have focused his attention on reading, for example, James Joyce's Ulysses... that way Jaime would be a intellectual composer, capable of creating works that would make Schoenberg expressionist compositions sound like easy listening music for kids...
I don't agree with that theories! I'm glad I wrote music for acoustic instruments + electronic ones; I would't want Schoenberg to look bad; the duck made me feel OK becauese I liked toys that looked like... toys!
Surely the world is anxious to read my complete biography, I must find the time to write it! (I can't forget to mention my first pencils bag, the green one with the Daffy Duck image)
