Releasing the new album The Opposite Of Never in the first half of 2024
Rick Treffers (1967) is a singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer from Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
From 2002 on, he becomes active in the European indie rock scene with his dream pop band Mist, formerly known as 'Miss Universe' (1996-2001) and Girlfriend Misery (1993-1996). Mist releases the albums We Should Have Been Stars, Bye Bye, the 'internet album' Period and the EP Dangerous Words, which receive international acclaim.
In 2007, Treffers launches Het heeft niets met jou te maken, about a broken relationship. It's his first solo album in Dutch. Then he records Mara, six songs in Dutch with Nits drummer Rob Kloet for a theatre play inspired on the life of Marguerite Duras. In 2010, an album about wanting to leave your home country (Prettige Vooruitzichten) is released on Treffers’ own label Skipping Records.
In 2013, having spent some time in Valencia in Spain, Ser Español comes out, an ironic pop album in Spanish about Spanish idiosyncrasy under the nickname El Turista Optimista. Between 2015 and 2018 The Loop of Love, Selection and Underwater , the last album as Mist, are being released. Treffers also publishes his first novel.
In 2021, pandemic times, Treffers makes two albums : Looking For A Place To Stay and Levensdrift. In the first half of 2024, he launches the album The Opposite Of Never on Rick Treffers Recordings: 10 new songs about love, hope and illusions, recorded between Valencia, Berlin and Amsterdam, with Dutch and Spanish musicians.
