Shortly after The Bowery’s successful debut album ‘Broken Jars’, which was released on vinyl in 2018, The Bowery received a Zilveren Duif Award (The Dutch version of the Dove Awards) for ‘Best New Artist’. Now, five years later, The Bowery can count itself as one of the most successful Christian bands from the Netherlands and are now plunging into the international music scene.
The name is based on a district with the same name in New York, that started with the wonderful idea of a luxurious neighbourhood full of bars and theaters. It quickly went downhill and soon there were gangs and it became a mess. “Sounds a bit like the earth,” said Rokus, the face behind The Bowery. “It was once the intention to be so beautiful, but the residents themselves have made a mess of it.” And that is how the band name of The Bowery came into being. The songs aren’t standard songs about love and heartbreak. No, the songs from The Bowery are about real life, as many know it: pure and with a raw edge. The sound of The Bowery underlines that story.
Songs about doubt, pain and sadness, but also about hope and faith. Never intended to give an answer, more to share and sometimes to put something in motion in the mind of the listener.
In May 2018 The Bowery released their debut album, ‘Broken Jars’. The Bowery’s 2nd album, ‘Mountains & Valleys’, has been released in September 2020, partly recorded in Nashville, TN. In the fall of 2022 The Bowery released their latest album, ‘Time and Again’. This album reflects The Bowery’s international sound. For this album, Rokus wrote a few songs together with Paul Field, Cathy Burton and GMA Dove Award winner Henk Pool (‘Testify to Love’). Let yourself be transported into the world of The Bowery, a world where ‘elephants in the room’ exist but in the midst of that...there is hope!
