Weekend Hours is a self-proclaimed “tiny indie band on the internet.” Their upbeat instrumentals, paired with introspective lyrics, bring together influences from bands such as The Strokes, The Killers, Wallows, and The Cure. Their new record, When You’re Here, includes seven tracks ranging from anthemic to mellow, with hints of nostalgia from alternative music of the past few decades.
Hailing from Rochester, Michigan, the duo consists of Dain Vargo and Josh Pajak. The two met as students at an after-school music program, and became friends through their love of SpongeBob SquarePants and YouTube “shreds” videos (things they still haven’t outgrown). Formed in late 2018, Weekend Hours combines existential dread and hints of irony with a spirited, danceable, indie-rock sound.
