2020 sees in the new side of Johannesburg-based rock/alternative outfit Climate Control, following various member changes and path shifts. Once again diving into the realm of experimentation and pushing their artistic boundaries, the now three-piece are serving up a series of new singles recorded and produced remotely during lockdown, starting with the punchy and addictive āFeelerā and followed by the layered and impactful āMaster of Noneā.
Over the years, Climate Control have never allowed genre labels to define their sound. As their song writing and style evolved, so did their love of merging elements from various styles to create something distinctive and rooted in melody, while never losing the passion and desperation of their earlier, heavier ingredients.
With energetic live performances and a flair for dramatic aural ventures, Climate Control merges the vigour of alternative rock, hooky and addictive pop sensibilities and the force of post-hardcore into one mesmerising sonic showcase. Over recent years the band has shared the stage with international artists such as Our Last Night, Hands Like Houses, Crown the Empire, as well as performing at major local festivals like RAMfest and Krankād Up.
The bandās previous singles (āTidal Waveā, āGhostsā, and āLittle Messā) charted within the top 4 in the South African iTunes Rock Chart upon release, with the former having been featured on renowned YouTube blogger Jarrod Alongeās channel, and had their single āLittle Messā playlisted on 947 & KFM (Cape Town). Their new material follows their 2018 self-produced and released sophomore full-length album, āEquals Notā.
Their first new single āFeelerā embodies a perfect balance between composure and free fall. Moments of anticipation generate a release that methodically captures the energy of a live show. With āFeelerā, Climate Control presents a contemporary reinterpretation of a genre that has stood the test of time. The track portrays their version of rock engrossed with elements of funk grooves and uplifting unforgettable melodies. Second single āMaster of Noneā is about how before we know it, things will have passed us by, emphasizing the importance of being present and appreciative. Itās very close to the membersā hearts, who took great care in creating the textures, layers and lyrics throughout the track, as well as capturing melodies that were equally memorable and impactful.
