Led by twin brothers Silvano and Ivano Michetti, the Italian pop group Cugini di Campagna rose to prominence in the early 1970s with their glam rock-inspired stage outfits and falsetto-driven earworms. The band was formed in Rome in 1970 and was soon discovered by producers Bruno Zambrini and Gianni Meccia, who produced and released their eponymous studio in 1972. Featuring influences from prog rock and folk, the album contained the hit single "Il Ballo di Peppe," which received heavy airplay on the Alto Gradimento radio show. Cugini di Campagna veered towards a more radio-friendly pop sound on their next LP, 1973's Anima Mia, whose title track reached Number 2 on the Italian singles chart and would later be covered by the likes of ABBA, Dalida, Bobby Rydell, and Claudio Baglioni. Even though their popularity waned in the following years, the band experienced a surge in popularity when their signature song "Anima Mia" re-entered the charts in 1997 after being featured in RAI's TV show of the same name. This success prompted the band to revisit its catalog on numerous compilations such as Sarà (1999), 1973-2003 30 Anni di: Una Storia Infinita (2003), Anima Mia, Torna a Casa Tua...Ti Ho Sognata Mentre Stavi Ritornando (2014), and Una Meravigliosa Storia Infinita dal 1970 al 2017 (2017). In 2023, Cugini di Campagna participated in the Sanremo Song Festival with the song "Lettera 22," which finished in 21st place and peaked at Number 58 in Italy. An album of the same name followed suit later that year, reaching Number 29 on the local charts.
