Black Sherif, born Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kwaku Frimpong on January 9th, 2002 in Konongo, Ghana, is a Ghanaian singer and rapper who has made a name for himself in the music industry with his unique blend of highlife, reggae, and hip-hop; specifically UK drill. Growing up in Konongo-Zongo in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, Black Sherif was exposed to multiple influences and different cultures at a very early age, which helped shape his musical style. After completing his secondary education at Kumasi Academy, where he developed an interest in music and dancing, Black Sherif began his career in 2019 with the online-only release of his song "Cry For Me", however it was his debut single "Money" in May 2020, followed by "First Sermon" and "Second Sermon" in 2021, remixed by fellow African artist Burna Boy. Black Sherif's major breakthrough however, came in March 2022 with his single "Kwaku The Traveller" which reached number 1 on the Ghanaian and Nigerian charts. His debut album The Villain I Never Was was released on October 5th, 2022, supported by the singles "45" and "Soja". The album received critical acclaim, earning him several awards including Best New Artist and Best Hip Hop Song at the 2022 Ghana Music Awards, solidifying his status as a rising star in the Ghanaian music scene.
