In new album,
Caro Pierotto showcases
swing and authenticity
After exploring music genres in her previous productions, the singer and songwriter resurfaces with an optimistic album lulled by Samba rhythms
Based in Los Angeles, the Brazilian singer has been conquering the North American stages for the last 10 years with her captivating voice and her contagious presence. With a catalog of over 60 original songs, Caro Pierotto has always explored musical genres in her productions.
‘Em Português’, her last album released in Brazil in 2020 by the renowned label YB Music, featured the song 'Mera Ilusão', a classic samba de roda, chosen by Spotify for the Playlist 'Sambalelê' alongside the great names of Brazilian Samba Music, such as Rogê, Maria Rita, Criolo and Diogo Nogueira. The song now has more than 300,000 organic streams.
After the success of 'Mera Ilusão', Caro and her producer/partner, Grecco Buratto, decided to focus on samba.
An easy decision to make according to Caro:
“Being a Brazilian artist here in the United States made me appreciate our music, our history a lot more. Wherever I go, doors are always open for me, whether in the United States or Europe, my experience is always positive, and I owe that to Carmen Miranda, Tom Jobim, João Gilberto, Astrud Gilberto, Sergio Mendes and so many more Brazilian Artists who came before me and stamped the magic of Brazilian music wherever they went. Making the decision to produce an album focused on Samba was effortless and organic.”
The album was recorded in Petrópolis, RJ, at Gravadora Rocinante's studio. Located on a beautiful property in the mountains of Rio de Janeiro, its infrastructure allows all musicians to stay while they work.
“We chose Rocinante because it is in RJ, we wanted to add that layer of authenticity to the project; for the high quality of the equipment and the technical team, of course, but also more for the opportunity to have the experience of all of us being incubated for a week, together, focused on bringing the songs to life, recording every instrument live, playing together."
On her latest album, the singer composed all the songs herself. On this album, Caro decided to make room for collaborations.
The new album, entitled 'Sambalismo', is composed of ten unreleased songs, all in Portuguese.
Grecco Buratto and Caro share half of the authorship of the album, with the classic Bossa Nova 'Meros Mortais' and the Sambas 'Não Dá Pra Esconder', 'Sei Lá', 'Nesse Jogo' and 'Mal Acostumado', which is inspired by their dear deceased furry son, Max.
‘O Caminho’, a Samba that visits the Afro-Brazilian rhythm Afoxé, was co-written with JP Mourão and Felipe Fraga, the singer’s stage partners since the beginning of her career.
A highlight of the album is ‘À Nossa Volta’, a beautiful Samba-Canção sung in a duet with the illustrious composer and artist from Rio de Janeiro, Rogê, who also co-wrote the song with Grecco Buratto.
'Espaçonave' the Samba-Rock hit from the album, 'Recado dos Anjos' a romantic samba de roda and the explosive Samba School influenced 'Pára e Repara' are the singer 's solo work.
The themes of her compositions reflect her experiences in the journey of self-knowledge, through the practice of yoga, meditation, and her visits to the plant medicine universe.
“I like to navigate any and all mediums that can bring healing. I'm curious about that, I've always been an explorer, just like in music. I love experimenting and I bring what resonates with me home, always singing what I want to hear.”
The cast of musicians who participated in this album includes Grecco Buratto in the production/cavaquinho/guitar/arrangements, JP Mourão in the seven-string guitar/guitar/arrangements and Felipe Fraga in the drums/percussions/arrangements - who accompany her in her shows in the United States - and some of the best instrumentalists of today in the music scene in Rio with the brothers Alberto Continentino on bass and Jorge Continentino on sax and flutes, Marlon Sette on trombone and Diogo Oliveira on trumpet. The team had Braulio Passos in sound engineering and Felipe Duriez, Paulo Maganinho and Vinicius Crivellaro in assistance, a trio from Rocinante studio.
As a songwriter, Caro remains in constant activity, taking the rhythms of Brazil to global productions, as in the case of the soundtrack of the movie “Trash - A Esperança Vem do Lixo”, with producer Pharrell Williams, and as in the soundtrack of the series TV production 'Servant' Apple TV with the song ‘É tão bom o nosso amor’.
With this album, Caro intends to solidify her roots as a representative of Brazilian music in the world, always honoring those who came before and paving the way for those to come, as well as spreading messages of hope and love.
