The song was awarded the German Music Writer's Prize in the wake of its success. in 2016, Kerstin Ott, who had previously worked as a painter and varnisher, released her debut album Herzbewohner, which reached number 4 in the album charts. Her first own single "Scheissmelodie" was also successful in the charts and received a gold record. Her second album Mut zur Katastrophe followed in 2018. The single "Regenbogenfarben" initially failed to make the charts, but was re-recorded as a duet with pop star Helene Fischer. The song then reached number 20 in the German singles charts and went platinum in Austria. The third album Ich muss dir was sagen (2019), like its predecessors, was certified platinum and reached number 2, her best album chart position to date. in 2021, the longplayer Nachts sind alle Katzen grau reached number 3 in Germany and was also in the top 10 in Austria and Switzerland.
