I Marta Sui Tubi started as a duo, formed by Giovanni Gulino and Carmelo Pipitone. Originally both from Marsala, Sicily, they soon move to Bologna.
The first video “Stitichezza Cronica” gets big airplay on Mtv while Marta sui Tubi start the tour to packed clubs all over Italy. Since January 2004 Marta sui Tubi are joined permanently by drummer Ivan Paolini
Immediately considered one of the best live bands around and with a very distinctive sound, Marta sui Tubi are able to channel so much emotion and energy into their sets
While their second video “Vecchi Difetti” gets even more airplay on Mtv and other tv channels, Marta sui Tubi win the MEI Festival awards 2004 as “Best Italian Indie Band”.
After more than 100 live dates Marta sui Tubi stop their touring activity and record their second album with the production of Marco Tagliola (John Parish, Vinicio Caposella). In 18 days the new album is ready.
It's October 2005 when the record is released, this time on V2 Records, and titled “C’è gente che deve dormire” (There's people needing a rest). The album is even more varied and psychedelic and is closed by a Marta sui Tubi rendition of the Beatles' “Tomorrow Never Knows”.
With the press and audiences liking the new album even more than the previous one, the 150-date tour is a long series of “sold-out” in clubs.
In March 2007 Marta sui Tubi played a gig in an igloo on the alps at 3200 mt over sea level using instruments carved from ice to a bemused audience!
Still loving to ignore the rules and break the barriers, Marta sui Tubi are one of the most innovative and amazing acts from the Italian indie scene.
In 2008 Marta sui Tubi start their own record label “Tamburi Usati” and record the new album with Taketo Gohara, titled “Sushi & Coca”. Released in oct 2008 it quickly becomes a classic and achieves to build Marta's profile even more with bigger festivals, bigger audiences and more radio airplay for the 4 singles off the album.
Marta sui Tubi spend most of 2010 and 2011 to record their 4th album “Carne con gli Occhi” with producer Tommaso Colliva (Muse, Franz Ferdinand) to capture the energy of their live performance in a studio environement.
The album singles get Marta sui Tubi on massive airplay and Cromatica, the most popular, is a duet with Italian legend Lucio Dalla. The tour is a massive success and ends in 2012 after 18 months and 150 show.
2013 has Marta sui Tubi playing at world famous Sanremo Festival tv show on RAITV and releasing in march their 5th album “Cinque, la luna e le spine”. It's their most popular album so far, supported by 2 hit singles: “Dispari and Vorrei”, a lot of tv appearances and a massive audience increase in the currently ongoing tour.
Marta sui Tubi are now expanding their touring itinerary having played in Germany in january and are now expected to tour in Spain in april 2014 for 3 shows to support the release of the “De Vino” single, the first sung in Spanish.
