Biography

Ben Ruttner and James Patterson founded the electronic music project The Knocks in New York in 2010. Known today for remixes of high-profile artists as well as individual hit productions of their own, the duo is one of the undisputed figureheads in the EDM, dance and future funk scene. The Knocks received their first major attention in 2010 for the single "Dancing With The DJ", which was one of three pre-releases to herald the premiere EP Magic (2011). Ruttner and Patterson scored a huge download triumph in 2012 with the M83 cover "Midnight", which immediately put The Knocks on the collaboration list of the pop group Icona Pop, alongside whom the song "Sun Goes Down" was written in the same year. After two further EPs, Comfortable (2014) and So Classic (2015), the two producers released their debut album 55 in 2016, which included notable features with stars such as Wyclef Jean and Carly Rae Jepsen. While the EP Testify was released in 2017, a collaboration with Sofi Tukker ("Best Friend") led to the musicians' first chart entry in the same year, reaching number 5 in the US dance hit list and number 81 in the Billboard 200. in 2018, The Knocks released their second long-playing record, New York Narcotic . Ruttner and Patterson continued to work with other acts, including the indie group Foster the People, with whom they recorded the track "All About You" in 2020, which was also featured on the 2021 album History .
