NYDA Vol1 is Out Now! Keep Streaming - Love y'all
Of Beninese origin, Niyi Kosiberu was born in Porto-Novo, grew up in Cotonou and now lives in Paris. Young self-taught singer of the Beninese musical artistic scene, he then grew up listening to a repertoire of African music in his father's living room.
These African sounds from the continent such as Congolese rumba (Tabuley Rochereau, Nyboma, Pépé Kallé, Mbila Bel, Faya Tess), yoruba’s culture music from Nigeria such as Fuji, Apala, Juju Music (Dr. Sikiru Barister, Kollington, Ayinla Omowura, King Sunny Adé, Queen Salawa Abeni, Sir Sina Peters, Fela Anikulapo Kuti), but also of the Beninese variety such as the Poly rythmo orchestra, Angélique Kidjo or even Sagbohan Danialou constitute its reservoir of inspiration.
Author, composer and performer, Niyi Kosiberu echoes African rhythms on Ragga, Reggae or even traditional atmospheres accompanied by his very specific vocal timbre which together make his musical style immediately recognizable.
Niyi Kosiberu offers a mixed and hybrid music which he likes to recall that she aspires to pay tribute to his two idols Bob Marley and Fela Anikulapo Kuti, emblematic figures of music who were able to bring back third world music at the time on the international banner.
His objective is to make known the “rich Beninese culture” beyond the borders.
