Born in San Diego, CA to a Mexican father and African-American mother, Solomon Ray made his musical debut in 2008 as simple, Solomon, as a rapper. He released two mixtapes selling more than 10,000 copies combined after being on Eminem’s Shade 45’s Cipha Sounds In The Morning show with Angela Yee. After doing the New York Hip-Hop scene Solomon released of his debut EP, Shades of Black (2009) followed by his sophomore EP, The Love Rocker Project (2011). He went on a tour with Kelly Rowland, Deborah Cox and also opened for Patti LaBelle. But it wasn’t until his single, “Life Goes On…” when Solomon picked up a lot of traction. The single spent 13 consecutive months on the front pages and charts of iTunes.
“The Way We Were” off Ray’s 2014 EP, Le Garçon, charted as one of VEVO’s top 5 RnB songs of 2014 and landed on iTunes as one of ‘2014’s Best New Releases by a New Artist.’ He has also received accolades from PAPER, Out, MTV, NewNowNext, Advocate, AltSounds, and NME. By summer 2014, Ray announced his retirement from music with his video “Crash Into You” where his “death” is depicted on screen to symbolize his forthcoming “rebirth” and emerging as Solomon Ray.
After many years of doubt, Solomon finally ventured into his life long passion to do music in Spanish, adding Ray to his stage name. In 2017 Ray offered us his first single in Spanish, “El Otro.” The Daneon (Marc Anthony - ‘Esta Rico’ producer) Reggaeton track was loved by many. But it wasn’t until his follow up summer single, “Así Así” in 2018 that made him a mainstream contender. The single garnered recognition from Billboard and Remezcla, and landed him on multiple editorial playlist on Spotify such as Latin Pop VIP and more. Ray since has released “Over You” a Spanglish pop dance tune and his recent duet with MANCANDY, “Llama A Tu Novio” a cumbia infused reggaeton song. Solomon Ray is currently working on new music and plans to eventually release a full length Spanish LP in 2020.
