Send us a textThis week’s episode is all about the four foundations of endo health. I’m super excited about the upcoming launch of the Endo Warrior Circle, a subscription-based program where everything is broken down into these four essential foundations. Today, I want to give you a sneak preview of the overarching topics we'll be covering, and help you figure out what you need to support right now.In today’s episode, you’ll hear:-The foundations are what you need to build a solid base to help you create a sustainable approach to managing endo. Focusing on one thing at a time will help you make progress with your endo symptoms and sustain that progress for the long term. - 1. Mindset and stress: Often overlooked, mindset and stress management are crucial. Believing that you can heal your body and improve your symptoms is the first step toward better health.-2. Diet: an essential part to manage endo symptoms, and the best diet to focus on is an anti inflammatory diet. -3. Sleep: Prioritizing sleep and having good sleep habits are crucial when managing endo symptoms. Sleep impacts your diet, stress, and mindset. -4. Lifestyle: This includes movement, eating habits, creating space for healing, resting, and doing activities you love. A balanced lifestyle is key to managing endo and enhancing your overall quality of life.-While supplements can be helpful, a quality diet is more important. Additionally, seeking help from mental health professionals, functional practitioners, acupuncture, pelvic floor therapy, and other resources can be extremely beneficial in supporting these foundations.Making one positive change at a time creates a snowball effect, pushing your life in the direction you want. It’s tempting to change everything at once, especially when in pain, but sustainable progress comes from focusing on one foundation at a time. When you focus on one, the rest will improve because each foundation relies on the other. Doors are open from June 24th-28th. After that, you can join the waitlist. In the Endo Warrior Circle, we’ll dive deeper into these topics and more. I hope to see you there!Resources:Episode 34Episode 35 Subscribe to The Endo Belly Girl Podcast: Apple | SpotifyConnect w/ Alyssa: Instagram Website Work w/ Alyssa: Free Endo Diet Guide Work with me 1:1 Join The Endo Warrior Circle Learn more about AlyssaDisclaimer: This podcast is for educational purposes only. Send us a textIn today’s episode, I’m talking about a common symptom for us endo warriors: fatigue. Often, we don’t realize how tired we are until we start addressing other symptoms of endometriosis and experience more energy throughout the day. We don’t always recognize the signs of fatigue or understand why we have it. Today, I unpack some underlying imbalances and how to start managing them.In this episode, you’ll hear:-Feeling tired at the end of a full day is normal. What’s not normal is feeling completely exhausted after working just a few hours or taking a walk.-It’s normal to have slightly lower energy levels leading up to and during menstruation, and maybe even during ovulation. However, feeling exhausted daily and struggling to get out of bed is not normal.-Good sleep hygiene is crucial for managing fatigue. -Regular physical activity helps your body gauge when you need more energy and typically boosts your overall energy levels.-Iron, B12, and folate levels significantly affect your energy. If your body is trending towards anemia, incorporate foods like red meat, dark leafy greens, brussels sprouts, broccoli, and use cast iron cookware. -Inflammation contributes to fatigue, and there are many causes. -An anti-inflammatory diet rich in whole foods helps manage inflammation. Common inflammatory foods include gluten, dairy, corn, soy, and sugar. A short-term elimination diet can help identify personal triggers.-Blood sugar imbalances can also lead to inflammation.-Stress contributes to inflammation, so learning how to reduce and manage your stress load is essential for combating fatigue.-Factors like gut infections, thyroid health, slow liver function, and adrenal health can also contribute to fatigue. These more advanced symptoms are best addressed with the help of a practitioner. The best way to start working on fatigue is by focusing on the basics: getting enough sleep, maintaining a healthy diet, managing stress, and incorporating regular movement. Think of these basics as the foundation of a house. You need a strong foundation before anything else. Remember, supplements are meant to be supplemental. You can’t substitute a poor diet or lifestyle with supplements, and good health is about the small, consistent habits you build each day.Resources:Episode 34Episode 21 Subscribe to The Endo Belly Girl Podcast: Apple | SpotifyConnect w/ Alyssa: Instagram Website Work w/ Alyssa: Free Endo Diet Guide Work with me 1:1 Join The Endo Warrior Circle Learn more about AlyssaDisclaimer: This podcast is for educational purposes only. Send us a textWelcome back to the Endo Belly Girl Podcast! Today, I am excited to dive into exercise for endometriosis with Amy Grace. Amy is a fitness trainer specializing in women’s fitness and a hormonal health coach. We also discuss Amy’s journey with endo and how she aims to empower women through their fitness journeys despite endo symptoms. In this episode, you’ll hear:-Endometriosis doesn’t end your life; it’s about learning how to work with your body.-Everyone’s starting point is very different. You might have to do some functional work to get to the point where you feel like you can reach a consistent fitness routine. -Meet your body where it is right now. Understand your pain patterns, and menstrual cycles, and work towards feeling capable of having a fitness routine.-Build foundational strength before you can get back to the old routines you had before your endo symptoms. -Exercise varies with your cycle. Some days will be better, and your approach should align with your symptoms.-Cycle syncing and symptom awareness are crucial. Knowing when to take it easy helps manage pain flare-ups, and helps you identify when to take it easy with movement. -Identify movements that feel good. Understanding how different exercises affect your pain can help you stay active on bad days.-Brainstorm a list of movements that you actually like to do, and then see what you feel from that movement will allow you to start exercising now. -Start with small, light exercises to keep your routine manageable. This way, you won’t feel worse than when you started. Gradually build up your routine as your body allows. When it comes to exercising with endo, it can be frustrating when your body can’t do what it used to, or you want to do more than you can. Start with movements that feel good and are fun so you’ll stick with them. You don’t have to do everything at once. Accepting your body as it is now is the best way to build confidence and exercise routines because, over time, you will only get stronger.Connect w/ Amy:Website: www.projectfiercefitness.comIG: @amy_projectfiercefitnessFreebie: https://download.projectfiercefitness.com/endo-starter-guide Subscribe to The Endo Belly Girl Podcast: Apple | SpotifyConnect w/ Alyssa: Instagram Website Work w/ Alyssa: Free Endo Diet Guide Work with me 1:1 Join The Endo Warrior Circle Learn more about AlyssaDisclaimer: This podcast is for educational purposes only. Send us a textThis week’s episode dives into red flags to look for when choosing doctors or practitioners to help you through your endo journey. The journey is hard enough, and we need practitioners who are on our side 100%.In this episode, you’ll hear:1. Your goals are not aligning with their methods: if you want to focus on fertility, but they suggest birth control to manage your symptoms, it’s a sign they might not be the right fit.2. You don’t feel comfortable or get a good vibe from them: Trust your gut. If you’re not comfortable with a provider, they’re likely not the right person to work with.3. Feeling judged: They should recognize that it’s not about being perfect and that judgment is not beneficial to your journey.4. Gaslighting: If you’re not being listened to and your pain and symptoms are brushed off, this is a major red flag. Your provider needs to validate what you’re experiencing.5. Giving a pill for every ill: Consider if this approach aligns with your beliefs. Often, there’s a deeper root cause to address beyond just taking medication.6. Feeling overwhelmed and unsure what you’re addressing: Endometriosis can be overwhelming, and if they suggest tackling everything at once, it can hinder your progress. A step-by-step approach is usually more effective.7. Taking a radical approach before starting with the basics: You can’t skip foundational steps. Ensure that basics are addressed before moving on to more radical treatments.8. Feeling like a number, not a human: If your provider doesn’t remember details about you or past discussions, it shows a lack of personal attention. They should know and understand you and your health goals.9. Being given up on: If they treat you like a lost cause, find someone new immediately. Your provider should always believe in your potential for improvement.10. Quick fix solutions: Your provider should be interested in understanding why you’re experiencing certain symptoms, not just offering quick fixes.11. Getting a cookie-cutter protocol: Your needs, goals, and body are unique. You deserve a treatment plan tailored specifically to you, not a one-size-fits-all approach.I’m not perfect and don’t have all the answers, but I wanted to share some insights based on experiences I’ve heard from clients, others, and even myself. It’s all about finding the right people for you and your goals and making you feel empowered. Send us a textIn today’s episode, I dive into my favorite topic: gut health, focusing on foundational practices that often get overlooked. I have my top 10 tips on how to support your gut health. While many of these tips may seem simple, I promise they are incredibly beneficial and can make a huge difference. In today’s episode, you’ll hear:-1. Stop eating on the go, when you eat while working or driving, your brain can't properly engage in the digestion process. Your body needs to be in a restful state to digest food effectively.-2. Take a moment of gratitude when you begin your meal; before you begin your meal, sit down, take a few breaths, and be thankful for the food in front of you. This allows your body to go into that rest to digest state. -3. Prepare your own meals whenever possible; when you prepare your meals, it signals your brain that food is coming, preparing your body for digestion. -4. Chew your food; chewing is the first step in breaking down food. It interacts with enzymes and signals your brain that digestion is starting. Your food needs to be a smoothie-like consistency before swallowing.-5. Avoid drinking water during or around your meals, take small sips if needed; drinking water during meals can dilute your digestive juices and stomach acid, hindering food breakdown.-6. Hydrate well the rest of the day; your body needs water to produce stomach acid and other digestive juices, and staying well-hydrated keeps your digestive system functioning smoothly.-7. Eat bitter foods; bitter foods like black coffee, tea, unsweetened dark chocolate, and supplemental bitters stimulate gastric juices, aiding digestion.-8. Eat ginger; ginger enhances digestive motility, improves efficiency, increases your digestive fire, and alleviates symptoms like bloating. It's a powerful aid for your digestive system.-9. Eat prebiotic and probiotic-rich foods; prebiotic foods, like chicory root, feed good gut bacteria. Probiotic foods, like kombucha, contain beneficial bacteria cultures. Pay attention to how probiotic foods make you feel.-10. Consider digestive enzymes; if you struggle with digestion, digestive enzymes from a health food stores can be helpful. This is not the first option, but they are a good option for additional support. My biggest advice is to know when you need deeper support. This list provides a solid foundation, but if you face issues like leaky gut or dysbiosis, consider Subscribe to The Endo Belly Girl Podcast: Apple | SpotifyConnect w/ Alyssa: Instagram Website Work w/ Alyssa: Free Endo Diet Guide Work with me 1:1 Join The Endo Warrior Circle Learn more about AlyssaDisclaimer: This podcast is for educational purposes only. Send us a textWelcome back to the Endo Belly Girl Podcast! Today I dive into understanding supplements with my friend and mentor Kate Mahoney, a functional practitioner dietary supplement expert. Kate and I share a passion for bioindividuality, and educating people that not all supplements are created equally. In this episode, you’ll hear:-Quality is crucial because many supplement nutrients originate from sources like corn, soy, and grains, and are often genetically modified. Since these ingredients can trigger sensitivities in most people, opting for higher-quality supplements is essential.-Excipients, the inactive ingredients in supplements, can also contain ingredients we don't want in our bodies.-The quality of Omega 3s and fatty acids hinges on their sourcing and processing. Exposure to heat, oxygen, and light can cause them to go rancid, worsening inflammation instead of reducing it. A simple test for high quality is if it tastes bad when you bite into it, it's likely not good quality. -Supplements need to be bio-available for the body to absorb and use them.-Supplements offer temporary relief for symptoms, like hormone imbalances, but often don't tackle the root cause. Consulting a functional practitioner for a personalized protocol is more beneficial than relying solely on advice from others, as it considers your unique bio-individuality and addresses the underlying issue.-Therapeutic protocols are temporary and not lifelong solutions. -When evaluating supplements, be wary of marketing claims that boast them as the best or number one. Look for detailed information on ingredient sourcing and ensure there's documentation to support it; transparency is key!-If the ingredient list isn't clear, it's best to avoid buying the supplement. Check if excipient ingredients are listed, and if so, see if you recognize them. Understanding supplement quality can be overwhelming, but these basics will help you make informed choices for your body. If you need further guidance, I offer one-off sessions to review your current supplements and determine what's beneficial for you. Send us a textIn today’s episode, I delve into the holistic approach to the endometriosis healing journey. Endometriosis is a full-body disease, and healing endo goes beyond just our diet. It is about healing the mind, body, and the spirit. In this episode, you’ll hear:-Ways to heal the physical body are looking at your diet and nutrients, pelvic floor physical therapy, physical therapy, massage, acupuncture, and most importantly movement.-Movement doesn’t have to be hard core exercise, it can be taking a walk; the intensity of your workout can vary depending on where you are in your cycle.-Supporting your gut health and digestion, balancing your blood sugar, and getting nutrients in your body to help manage inflammation and to make your body perform optimally. -Stress has huge impacts on the body and we tend to overlook how much it affects our daily life; stress impacts on our blood sugar and adrenals, nutrient levels, and immune system. -Stress management is very important when it comes to healing endometriosis, and movement is one of the best ways to manage stress; meditation, journaling, and anything that makes you feel great like spending time in nature are also very beneficial. -Mindset work is very beneficial; our thoughts and the things we say to ourselves really have an impact on our daily lives and the energies that we attract into our lives. -Negativity bias is where our brains are programmed to see negativity first. Great practices are to intentionally notice the positive in your day to day lives, practicing gratitude, and avoiding gossiping or speaking negatively about others because it will affect the way you feel.-Be aware of everything that you are consuming such as books, TV, or even the news that affect your negativity. -Connecting to something bigger than yourself is also great for your whole well being. When embracing the body, mind, and spirit approach, it's all about finding what you need. Remember, you don't have to tackle everything at once. Take it step by step and find what works best for you. Trust your intuition. Figure out what works best for you, and follow your intuition. Send us a textWelcome back to the Endo Belly Girl Podcast! In this week’s episode, I discuss “the endometriosis diet.” Contrary to popular belief, there isn't one specific diet to follow. There is no one diet because everyone is bio-individual, meaning we all have different bodies and we do not process foods the exact same way. In this episode, you’ll hear:-Why there isn’t a singular diet for endometriosis, and why there is so much confusion out there.-The key is your unique bio-individuality, and what works for others might not work for you because our bodies are all different.-Eat primarily whole foods, which are foods you find in nature like meat, fish, seafood, fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, nuts, and seeds if your body tolerates it.-Focus on a nutrient-dense diet to ensure you're getting a wide range of nutrients like colorful vegetables, as each offers unique nutritional benefits; also prioritize omega-3s and protein, which are crucial for healing and overall well-being.-Organic and grass feed and finished meat, pasture-raised eggs and poultry, and wild-caught fish and seafood are best for your body and the environment. -Avoid vegetable oils like canola, corn, soybean, safflower, and sunflower oils, as well as sugar and processed foods; these can cause inflammation in the body, potentially aggravating endometriosis symptoms.-Focus on fats like ghee, coconut oil, and avocado oil; olive oil works well for low heat or salads. For sweeteners, opt for lower glycemic options like maple syrup, fruit, coconut sugar, and honey.-Bio-individuality means we're all unique, with different bodies and needs; it's not just about what you eat, but also about your cultural, religious, and personal beliefs.-Identify problematic foods like dairy or gluten that might worsen your endometriosis symptoms due to inflammation. Consider trying a 30-day elimination diet like the PALEO AIP. Trust your intuition to discover which foods suit you best and allow you to customize your diet to your needs, ultimately understanding your bio-individuality. Check out the guide below to create your personalized endometriosis diet. It's a valuable resource for deciding what works best for you. Send us a textThis week is our final episode of the infertility awareness series. I am excited to talk with Deidre Bloomquist. She is a functional nutritionist, and her specialty is reversing infertility through restoring health by reducing toxicity. In today’s episode we dive into how toxicity impacts the body and fertility. In today’s episode, you’ll hear:-Endocrine disruptors like phthalates and fragrances impact hormones, which affects fertility.-Toxins are everywhere, especially in products with fragrances, which are in many everyday products people use.-Your gut health matters for fertility because it impacts your hormones, and when there are imbalances, like dysbiosis, it stresses out your body, which can impact your hormones too; toxins like pesticides, heavy metals, mold, and even emotional stressors can cause gut imbalances. -In early conception, the thyroid is important in cellular replication, and if the thyroid is not functioning optimally it might cause fertility issues; heavy metals like aluminum and mercury, along with mold, can throw your thyroid off balance.-A lot of times people think that their symptoms are completely normal, when it can be traced back to toxins that you were exposed to in utero; learning how to manage how many toxins you come into contact with will ultimately impact the health of your child.-Unexplained infertility is definitely explainable, and what it really means is doctors don’t really know why you are unable to get pregnant; by digging deeper into the root causes of your symptoms, you are given a pathway to make the changes you need in order to get pregnant.-When IUI or IVF doesn't work typically it's because the body doesn’t feel safe, and it is trying to keep you safe; doing functional work can help and prepare your body for those procedures or to get pregnant naturally. To reduce toxicity and support fertility, start with your water source. Invest in a good quality filter. Look at things around your home and see what has fragrances, and buy things new in a better quality when you run out of that product. Make changes slowly, and remember perfection is not the goal. Prioritize daily use items for immediate improvement. Send us a textIn today’s episode, we continue our Infertility Awareness series by diving into the world of Traditional Chinese Medicine with Allison Locke, an Acupuncturist and integrative health practitioner. Allison, who is also an endo warrior, offers valuable insights into how TCM can provide an alternative approach to addressing infertility and endometriosis. In this episode, you’ll hear: -Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine values balance and living in accordance with nature, and it is more than just putting needles in your body.-How in TCM there is a very different diagnostic process; one illness can have different imbalances in the body like blood and qi stagnation, leading to different patterns that might show up as infertility.-Acupuncture works wonders for relaxing the nervous system from a Western standpoint, but from a TCM lens, conditions like endometriosis often involve stagnation, poor circulation of qi and blood, and deficiency; TCM can pinpoint the root cause and tailor treatments accordingly.-How in TCM, tackling infertility is all about focusing on healthy blood circulation, and whether you're aiming for a natural pregnancy or going through IVF or IUI, the approach remains consistent; research shows that combining IVF with TCM increases the chances of success by around 30%.-The functional approach can be blended and used with TCM to help achieve the best quality of life. -Acupuncture is not as scary as it sounds, it helps take your body out of the fight or flight mode, the needles are as thin as a strand of hair, it is a very safe practice, and it is a very relaxing experience. If you are interested in TCM and acupuncture, but lacking access or seeking initial steps, focusing on foundational health pillars like diet, exercise, stress management, and sleep is a great starting place. The temperature of your food can affect how your body functions, and syncing sleep with natural light cycles, can positively impact overall health. TCM encourages living in harmony with nature, so making lifestyle adjustments in line with this philosophy is a great way to begin integrating TCM into your daily routine.Connect w/ Allison:New online course: https://www.seaofqihealing.com/endometriosisuniversityInstagram: @sea_of_qi_healing Subscribe to The Endo Belly Girl Podcast: Apple | SpotifyConnect w/ Alyssa: Instagram Website Work w/ Alyssa: Free Endo Diet Guide Work with me 1:1 Join The Endo Warrior Circle Learn more about AlyssaDisclaimer: This podcast is for educational purposes only.
