The Unhelpful Parenting Podcast

We are back from a one-week hiatus after sick kids, with all-new parent news stories! With the news so heavy the last week, all the parent stories have been on the sidelines - so we are here to catch you up and have a laugh together. Sam starts us off with a fun fact about parenting, and that funny parents have been studied and proven to be more effective parents. Which, of course, opens up the debate to who is actually a funny parent and his request to bring back dad jokes to the podcast. Then we do yays and nays - with the promise NOT to whinge about sickness, instead celebrating it with Bec doing a double yay - being grateful for the airfryer and spewy matts - two items she wasn't convinced she needed but was happy to be proved wrong. Sam is naying the unfiltered kid cough, but yaying that losing their voices made the tantrums easier to deal with (silver linings, right?). In this episode, we have some wild pregnancy cravings, from soy sauce pancakes to things outside the food groups. Then the confessional has some hilarious stories from parents, including a 'talk' gone wrong, finished off with some parent news ft. Batman!Kicking off the episode, Bec starts the yays and nays with a funny story showing how the 2yo equates farts to daddy, but nays the parenting organisation trap - where she is now 100 times more organised than she ever was before kids, but now also 100 times more disorganised! Sam is yaying the almost 2-year-olds' cute obsessions and naying ALL THE NOISE!Into pregnancy cravings and there is everything from anchovies and chocolate, or brownies on make and cheese, to the dust off tyres, dishwasher powder and a krabby patty. In parent news, we share the story of Orange, a town in France, where drug dealers are leading the way in charity work, much to the disgust of the schools, and we ask, What team are you on? Team dealer or team school? It's a tricky one! And then we have a man stopping burglars in the night, all in his Batman pyjamas! This week, we asked for the funniest or wildest injuries your kids have caused you, plus we are back with our parenting confessional and parent news stories.Kicking off with a not-so-fun fact for Bec - did you know parents of 3 kids are reported to have the highest levels of stress? Parent news this week, and we share about one mother who had the unfortunate experience of going into labour while dressed as the Grinch for Halloween! We also share a story from India about a doctor who is making headway in combating the baby gender bias, celebrating baby girls, and pushing for change. This episode is packed with parent hacks, confessions and news!Kicking off with a random Sam thought about how our kids are going to look at us weirdly at the word 'rewind' - we quickly catch up with our parent yays and nays from this week. Bec is yaying cute mixed up words like bumblegum and double-yaying with the successful use of reverse psychology on the 4 year old. Sam is yaying the kids finally eating their dinner (after a year of complaining on this podcast that they waste food), and naying the unexpected emotions of watching your child walk off to school for the first time (he won't admit it, but he cried in the car!). The confessional is in full swing this week, but with a few stories that we think are more like parent hacks! Strap in for another episode of the Unhelpful Parenting Podcast. This week, we change things up, starting with Bluey news, as we welcome our first-ever podcast guests: the gnomes. But add to that the absolute outrage that the ABC didn't even attempt to get merchandising rights to Bluey and more or less started the show and gave away the profits to an overseas company (bless you BBC). The Bluey news outrage continues, with the ABC choosing to temporarily remove the Hammerbarn episode of Bluey because, as a publicly owned broadcaster, they can't support a commercial campaign. Once we get the Bluey Heeler shock news out of the way, we jump into a quick catch-up with yays and nays. Bec is yaying Amazon Prime subscriptions for cheap and convenient parenting supplies and nappies - but naying the hour-plus round trip that is the school run (even though school is 15 minutes away). Sam is yaying getting our hands on the Bluey gnomes, but naying the whole 10 minutes it took for one to break. This week we have some more school fails and tales being sent in off the back of the last one a few weeks ago - and a few 'friend' stories that we aren't buying. With interesting show and tell and the stories kids tell their teachers, at least your kid isn't proclaiming to everyone that you 'pooped out a baby'. We asked what's the most unexpected or funniest phase your kid went through. From toddlers to teenagers, the answers had us laughing!But first, did you know elephants are pregnant for 22 months? We brought back the confessional and we don't know who had more fails and funny moments this week - Bec or the parents sending in their stories! Starting with a mom confession, we launch in with our weekly yay & nays - Bec yaying getting to go to the shops by herself for the first time in what feels like years, followed by a nay from the same trip with a major embarrassing toilet moment (and the kids weren't even there!). Sam's following up Easter being grateful for time with family and friends, while naying whatever was in the chocolate this year cos it hit our kids different this Easter!We then share an ever growing list of reasons why pregnant moms have cried. Bec gets more than 1 story a day sent in, so we are sharing again some of the hilarious moments moms have on the wild ride that is pregnancy. We are talking crying over food, cats, arctic sharks, wiggle concerts and episodes of the office!In the confessional this week we have 4 stories from parents that will remain anonymous, reminding us that we aren't the only ones who make mistakes or have moments that make us face palm. It's our first BIRTHDAY!! To celebrate we are doing a giveaway this episode, and talking birthdays!! Welcome to all our mums and dads and new Bluey loving fans who've found us from our viral video last week! We must apologise to those left off the last episode (and Lin Manuel who's name Bec pronounced very poorly!), but we are back with all new stories and laughs this week!Kicking off with our parent yays & nays for the week - Bec is yaying their first week of having a cleaner, and Sam is naying the fact that within half an hour the house was destroyed again. This episode is packed full of laughs and stories for parents in the thick of parenting (or anyone needing a laugh). We catch up with our yays and nays - both yaying the cute kids that had a kind moment of sharing and are sleeping better. Our nays we are saving for the confessional, because one of the stories sent in is a reflection of our lives right now!Into parents in the news and we've got two older stories, but they are good ones! There's the mom who accidentally invited all her 487 phone contacts to her daughter's first birthday, and another who accidentally left her hand-gun in her daughter's lunchbox at daycare.We've also got some random facts where Bec shares the list of celebrities in Bluey that she found! Did you know all these celebs made cameos in Bluey? Then we hit the confessional - with the first story about a parent sending their kids to school with NITS! This is our nay because we've had nits all week - so if you're scratching just hearing about it, then think of us!! All the washing and brushing and treatments have Bec reminding Sam that she stands by the episode where they did 'would you rather' and she argued rathering a few days of gastro over head lice that never go away!We've got other confessions with kids blurting out hilarious comments like 'look at the boobies!' and 'I made friends with a black one', and then a near-miss Home Alone moment.
