Their mission is to "empower as many people as possible with the knowledge, skills and tools they need to create more foot and movement freedom in their lives."For the past few years I've been wearing Xero Shoes, and absolutely loving the freedom my feet feel while inside of a shoe. We have recently moved to Australia, where we are now barefoot now more than ever which is even better. Our feet are one of the most overlooked and neglected parts of our body, and we don't realize the enormous impact they have on so many parts of our daily lives. Michael Cazayoux is a former CrossFit Games champion, founder of the Brute Strength Podcast (now the Michael Caz Podcast), and co-founder of the nutrition coaching company Working Against Gravity. His tagline reads, "Men Wanted. For hazardous wilderness journey, physical and emotional hardship guaranteed, many days completed disconnected from society, constant danger, safe return doubtful. It's been a while since our last podcast episode, but we are now back with a new batch of some awesome interviews! In the summer of 2022, we packed up and moved our family of 4 and 3 pets from our home Rochester, NY, where we had spent our entire lives, to Stockholm, Sweden. Now that we have lived here for almost 2 years, my wife Brittany and I wanted to explain why we moved to Sweden, and the insane amount of things we had to do in order to get here.I'm super pumped to be able to introduce you all to my beautiful and amazing wife Brittany, and I hope you enjoy hearing our perspective on moving abroad with your family. We would love to do more episodes together like this, so please share your comments/questions/feedback, and don't forget to subscribe and rate the show. Linda McGurk is the author of the best-selling book "There's No Such Thing as Bad Weather: A Scandinavian Mom's Secrets for Raising Healthy, Resilient, and Confident Kids (from Friluftsliv to Hygge)". This book has changed my life in so many ways, opening my eyes to the value of spending time in nature, regardless of the weather. As a child, I spent all day every day outside, even in the winters growing up in Western New York. As an adult, I realized I lost that connection with nature, and this book was one of the main catalysts to me reconnecting with the outdoors again, and has transformed my teaching career and family life. This week's episode is with the founder of Intentionally Unplugged, aimed at equipping and empowering families to have healthy boundaries with technology. Denise is a mom of 3 and a teacher, so she sees first hand the impact technology and screens has on her and her kids' lives. She gives us some suggestions on how to navigate screen time with ourselves and with our kids, especially during these times when it seems like we are all required to be in front of a computer. This interview really hits home with me because I struggle to separate with my phone and use it as a crutch whenever I'm bored, almost like a reflex. I try to make a conscious habit of putting it away when I get home from work, but there always seems to be an excuse to take it back out. Just know that you're not alone out there, and the tips from this episode can be beneficial to all of us!Also, this will be my last episode as I take a break for a little while to "intentionally unplug". Our second child was just born this week, so I want to take some time off of interviewing and editing and enjoy her and have some fun with my family!I hope you enjoy the episode and please don't forget to leave a review, subscribe, and/or follow to help spread the mission of MOVRS! Matt Seebaum is the Executive Director of the Strider Education Foundation, the provider for All Kids Bike. Their mission is to get every Kindergartener in the country to learn how to ride a bike in their PE class. It seems crazy, but over the past 5-10 years, far less kids are out riding their bikes than ever before. Matt and I talk about how biking for us was like our ticket to life when we were kids; it's how we got everywhere and spent most of our time. There are so many valuable skills kids can develop when they go through the process of learning how to ride a bike, and it could turn into a life-long passion for them. All Kids Bike provides schools with a class-pack of Strider balance bikes, along with helmets, pedals if/when needed, and a curriculum to follow. The more money your/our community raises, the more schools can be provided with this amazing resource. Ginny Yurich is the founder of 1000 Hours Outside, "a global movement designed for any age child (or adult) and any environment" meant to encourage families to spend more time outside. I have been implementing this program and tracker sheets with my students at school, and with my son at home. Once you get your kids outside, nature takes care of everything for you. In this day and age of screen use, it is more important than ever to encourage outdoor play. Enjoy the show, and be sure to check out Ginny's website and social for more!"We track a lot of things these days - steps, calories, budgets, frequent flyer miles etc - why not track something so beneficial to our children as well? There are so many things that compete for our time so it's easy for something like this to get back-burnered. We found that if we spread these 4-6 hour chunks out over a few days (shooting for roughly 20 hours a week) it would take us to averaging about 1,000 hours of outside activity a year. That seems insane, maybe - we get it. But did you know the average American child spends 1,200 hours a year in front of screens? Now THAT seems insane to us, but hey, we get it - parenting is hard and sometimes those screens 'seem' like such a welcome reprieve from the chaos. We certainly are not militant about it and we don't take a 'no screens ever or you will surely die' approach either. But we would, quite vehemently, argue that nature- big, beautiful, bountiful nature - is the absolute and very BEST reprieve for you and your children. Honestly, they don't even compare!"https://www.1000hoursoutside.com/@1000hoursoutsideBooks mentioned in this episode:Last Child in the Woods - Richard LouvBalanced and Barefoot - Angela HanscomHow to Raise a Wild Child - Scott SampsonNo Such Thing as Bad Weather - Linda McGurkSupport the show

In this episode we have a returning guest Keegan Martin of The Brand X Method. Keegan is the Director of Education for the Brand X Method and explains to us what Physical Literacy is and why it is important in any youth program. This is a component of Physical Education and youth training that I don't hear about often enough, but I think it should be at the core of what we do with kids. In a world where kids are specializing in sport at a younger age every year, it is increasingly important for this kids to develop a broad and solid base of movement. This episode features a returning guest, Joonas Niemi, the program coordinator of Schools on the Move in Finland. Joonas focuses on active transportation, trying to encourage kids to walk and bike back and forth to school, and shares examples on how Finnish students actively commute to school and the infrastructure set in place to allow for it. This is a great way to promote physical activity without changing the school day schedule, and also sets the kids up for academic success by getting them moving before the day starts.Schools on the Move Website:https://schoolsonthemove.fi/Episode Timeline:1:50 - How to speak (some) Finnish9:20 - Joonas' childhood story12:00 - Finnish culture of active transportation14:10 - Why should kids actively commute?21:40 - Commuting in the snow28:50 - Is it safe? Please don't forget to leave a review, share, and subscribe if you like the show!MOVRS Website:http://www.movrs.orgMOVRS Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/movrs.podcast/?hl=enSupport the show

Debbie McCoy is the Assistant Vice President of Education at the Strong Museum of Play. The Woodbury School is run out of the museum, and offers programs for Pre-K and Early Kindergarten. Their curriculum is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, which is play-based and neither teacher led or student led, but a collaboration between the two. I believe The Woodbury School is the hidden gem of the Strong Museum of Play, and I hope it continues to thrive and even expand over the years to more grade levels.
