N095 Reports of DVC Direct Price Increase, Extended Evening Hours to Continue in 2023, Blizzard Beach Reopening, and Disney Cruise Line COVID-19 Updates
Shannon, Pete, and Sue discuss numerous recent reports of Disney Vacation Club direct prices increasing in early December and the announcement of the Extended Evening Hours to continue for 2023 for guests staying at eligible Walt Disney World hotels. Disney also revealed a reopening date for Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park after an extended refurbishment, and Disney Cruise Line removed the COVID-19 testing requirement regardless of vaccination status. N095 Season 8 of the My DVC Points Podcast was brought to you by: DVC Resale Market - Industry Leader in DVC Resales DVC Rental Store - DVC Point Rentals Monera Financial - Exclusively Financing DVC Contracts Patreon supporters in the My DVC Points VIP Producer Club. More than a rumor? Direct Pricing going up in December There have been repeated posts of DVC direct guides indicating to clients that the pricing on all the currently for sale DVC resorts will be increasing by $10 in early December - more specifically December 4th. Base price would go from $207 to $217  per point. While it is not unusual for guides to get hints at changes before they are in place, it is rare that this information would come out so far in advance of a date.  We normally do not share rumors on the DVC Newscast, but in this case with information coming from multiple cast members, we felt that we should share. This would apply to Disney's Riviera Resort, Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, and Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas. It is not known if any of the older resort direct prices would be affected.  Source: Various Extended evening hours to stick around through 2023   Walt Disney World announced that the popular extended evening hours benefit for guests staying at a Disney Deluxe Resort, Disney Deluxe Villa Resort or other select hotels will continue beyond the 50th Anniversary celebration throughout all of 2023. There are currently no dates or times yet listed after December 28th, but it is expected these dates will be updated with the Walt Disney World calendar update. Source: Walt Disney World Website Blizzard Beach resumes operations on November 13th Last week Disney announced that Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park will be reopening for the first time in 10 months after an extended refurbishment. A new inner tube return system has been added for Runoff Rapids and a Frozen theme to Tike's Peak.  The park will re-open on November 13th for guests to visit from 10 AM to 5 PM. Parks hours are shown on the Walt Disney World calendar through December 30th. It has also been announced that Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will be closing for its annual refurbishment on November 13th as well. It is not known at this time whether we will see another closure of Blizzard Beach this winter, or if instead Typhoon Lagoon will get an extended closure.  Source: Walt Disney World Website Disney Cruise Line drops COVID testing requirements Disney Cruise Line announced that guests would no longer be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test before boarding a ship, regardless of their vaccination status. The official Disney Cruise Line website said the requirement would go into effect starting November 14th for all sailings from the United States.  Unvaccinated passengers still have to test negative before boarding prior to November 14th. Previously, Disney Cruise Line had required guests 5 years or older to provide a negative COVID-19 test one to two days before their sail date. Disney Cruise Line says guests booked on impacted sailings through January 31st can modify or cancel by November 13th without any cancellation fees. The standard cancellation policy resumes for changes made on or after November 14th. Source: Disney Cruise Line My DVC Points is an awesome community of DVC members. MagicBand+ can be connected to theme park tickets or Magic Key passes in the Disneyland app for an easy way to enter the Disneyland Resort theme parks, check in at Lightning Lane entrances, and link Disney PhotoPass photographer photos to your Disney account. MagicBand+ also adds new, immersive elements and surprises to park experiences. It will also come to life during “World of Color” in Disney California Adventure park and “Fantasmic!” and select nighttime shows in Disneyland park. N088 Update to WDW Park Pass Reservations, DCL Returns to Traditional Character Greetings, new WDW AP discounts and more!
Shannon and Pete discuss the recent update to Walt Disney World's Park Pass reservation system. Disney Cruise Line announced the return of traditional character greetings. Also, Tusker House Restaurant is returning to a buffet and Fantasmic cast rehearsals have begun at Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios. Walt Disney World Annual Passholders will receive additional discounts and complimentary magnets this fall. N088 Season 8 of the My DVC Points Podcast was brought to you by: DVC Resale Market - Industry Leader in DVC Resales DVC Rental Store - DVC Point Rentals Monera Financial - Exclusively Financing DVC Contracts Patreon supporters in the My DVC Points VIP Producer Club. Update to Disney’s Park Pass system on August 23rd On August 23, Disney made some updates within the Park Pass reservation system. Disney World Guests can now book Park Pass Reservations for all ticket types at the same time, so if you are an Annual Passholder and want to book with friends that have a single day ticket, you can make all the reservations at the same time.  Another change is that Park Passes will be tied to a ticket and not a guest. This means that guests can have multiple ticket types (eg. Annual Pass, day ticket) and choose which ticket they would like to assign a Park Pass reservation to. Disney is also increasing the number of tickets that you can reserve from 12 to 30 guests, which should better accommodate larger traveling parties. And lastly, Guests who wish to make changes to their Park Pass Reservations can now edit the date and Park without having to cancel it first.5 Source: Blog Mickey and Walt Disney World website Return of Traditional Character Meet and Greets on DCL Disney Cruise Line announced the return of traditional character meet and greets across the fleet by August 29, 2022. This represents an increase over the normal 20% discount.  In order to obtain the discount, buyers must present proof of their Annual Passholder status along with a government issued photo ID.  So far there is no word on whether or not this offer will be extended to Disney Vacation Club members who also receive a standard 20% discount on the same merchandise purchases.  In other Passholder news, a new complimentary magnet is set to be distributed later this fall. No word on the design. Passholders will not be required to claim this magnet in person. N087 Magic Key Renewals, Disney Skyliner Maintenance, and EPCOT Tours Returning
Pete, Vicky, and Jen discuss the new renewal information announced for Disneyland's Magic Keys program, including price increases, blockout dates, and other changes. Disney's Skyliner will be down for maintenance in late January 2023. Disney also announced three tours will return to Walt Disney World's EPCOT in October 2022, including the popular Behind the Seeds tour. N087 Season 8 of the My DVC Points Podcast was brought to you by: DVC Resale Market - Industry Leader in DVC Resales DVC Rental Store - DVC Point Rentals Monera Financial - Exclusively Financing DVC Contracts Patreon supporters in the My DVC Points VIP Producer Club. Magic Key renewal program announced Disneyland has finally announced the renewal program for their magic key program, the equivalent of an annual pass in Florida.  Some changes are being made as well as a pretty hefty price increase. The top tier program “Dream Key” is being replaced with an “Inspire Key”. This pass has a black-out dates from December 21st to January 1st, leaving no passes available for Christmas holidays.  The pass price also went up $200 to $1,599 per person, though photo pass has now been added to all passes and a 20% discount on Genie+ was added to this as well as the “Believe Key”. The other Key levels remain the same, with the Believe Key price now at $1,099, which is a $150 increase.  The Enchant Key went up $50 at $699 and Inspire Key for local residents at $449 also went up $50.  Magic Key first became available on August 21st, 2021 - and renewals began on August 18th, 2021. Key holders will be allowed to renew up to 30 days after the expiration of their pass.  And this is important -  When you renew, you can choose to stay at your current pass level or choose any other Magic Key that might be better for you. However, note that there will be no new Magic Keys sold at this time, only renewals. AND, due to the popularity of certain keys, any key may sell out at any time. It’s possible that a key may not be available during your renewal period (but you’ll still be able to select another available Key). So essentially you are guaranteed to be allowed to renew - but NOT guaranteed to get the same pass you currently have. Source: Disneyland Website and Micechat Disney Skyliner to be down for maintenance January 2023 From January 22-29, 2023, Disney's Skyliner will be unavailable while routine maintenance is performed on the transportation system.  It is unlikely that the entire Skyliner route will be closed for this 8-day span; rather portions of the line will likely be unavailable for several days while the rest of the system continues to run.  Since there are three separate spurs, it is likely that one or more of those spurs may be scheduled to close for 2-3 days while the other routes continue to transport guests. The exact maintenance schedule will not be known until closer to January. Source: Walt Disney World Website, DVCNews EPCOT Tours to return There are three more reasons to visit EPCOT with the return of fan-favorite tours from the Enchanting Extras Collection beginning October 2, adding to and completing the previously announced lineup of highly popular tours returning to Walt Disney World Resort. Returning tours include the Behind The Seeds tour at Living with the Land: This one-hour walking tour gives you an up-close and personal view of amazing plants, insects and fish throughout four state-of-the-art greenhouses. Second, with EPCOT Seas Adventures – DiveQuest  guests once again can dive right into this 5.7-million-gallon saltwater environment and immerse themselves into the sea life surrounding the coral reef. This experience offers SCUBA-certified guests guaranteed calm seas, unlimited visibility, no current and incredible marine life. Finally, EPCOT Seas Adventures – Dolphins in Depth, allows guests without SCUBA certification the chance to meet the bottlenose dolphins at The Seas to learn about their complex undersea behavior and talk with the experts who work with them every day. Story #1 Harmony Barber Shop Reopening Harmony Barber Shop will reopen on July 31 for the world’s most magical haircut. A limited number of reservations for this timeless experience will be bookable in the My Disney Experience app beginning June 28. Walk-in appointments will be accepted based on availability. Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique was confirmed to be reopening later this year at both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, but no specific dates have been provided.  Source: Disney Parks Blog Story #2 Genie+ Changes at Walt Disney World In an announcement that Walt Disney World Resort will open bookings for theme park tickets, Disney Resort hotel stays and packages for visits in 2023 on June 8, a change to Genie+ was also mentioned.  Starting June 8, Disney Genie+ will only be offered for purchase through the My Disney Experience app on the day of your visit. Previously, Disney offered the option to purchase this service pre-arrival as a ticket add-on.   This means that moving forward, whether you have an Annual Pass, multi- or single-day ticket, you may only purchase Disney Genie+ service on the day of your visit via the app, one day at a time, subject to availability. Disney hopes this adjustment will help manage the strong demand guests have shown for Disney Genie+. Disney stated, on average, guests who purchase Disney Genie+ service will continue to enter 2-3 attractions or experiences each day using the Lightning Lane entrance when the first selection is made early in the day.  Any tickets already purchased that include Disney Genie+ service for dates later in 2022 will still be honored.  Note this update is also only happening at Walt Disney World Resort and will not affect guests at Disneyland Resort.   Disney also confirmed the early theme park entry benefit for Disney Resort hotel guests will continue beyond the 50th Anniversary for visits throughout all of 2023! This benefit gives Disney Resort guests an opportunity to enter ANY of the 4 Walt Disney World Resort theme parks to enjoy select attractions, shops, and dining EVERY day (valid admission, park reservation, and Resort ID required). Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa continued to dominate however Disney's Riviera Resort tallied its highest monthly sales numbers in more than two years. 310,866 DVC points were sold in April 2022 for the 11 resorts at Walt Disney World.   The last time DVC sales topped the 300,000-point mark was in July 2013 when 364,416 points were sold.  Coincidentally, July 2013 was also the second month of sales for the original Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.  Grand Floridian accounted for 57.2% of April’s sales, while Disney’s Riviera Resort represented 30.0% of total sales.  Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort —  In its second month since resuming sales, 177,819 points were sold for Grand Floridian.  It was the largest number of points sold for a single resort in a single month since Disney’s Riviera Resort sold 181,289 points in January 2020.  Disney has now sold 293,818 points, or 16.5% of the 1,779,822 points that have been assigned to the 202 Resort Studios located in the Big Pine Key building.  Disney has declared exactly half of the 202 Resort Studios for the DVC inventory.  This means that 101 resort studios can be booked using DVC points on any given Use Day. Disney’s Riviera Resort —  In April 2022, 93,218 points were sold for Riviera, the largest single-month sales since 153,416 points were sold in March 2020 at the cusp of the COVID-19 pandemic. Disney has sold 2,874,658 points, or 42.7%, of Riviera’s 6.7 million points.   The resort has averaged 78,190 points in monthly sales, which includes several months in 2020 when sales for all DVC resorts were severely impacted by the COVID pandemic. On April 15, 2022, Disney declared additional vacation homes for the DVC inventory at Riviera.  180 of Riviera’s 341 vacation homes are now available for DVC members to book using points.  The declared inventory accounts for about 3,605,940 points or 53.5% of the resort’s total points. In March, total sales were 241,490 points, with 116,000 points (48%) coming from Grand Flo, and another 71,000 (29%) coming from Riviera. Next highest was BLT at 17,200 and AKV at 12,400 points. Now remember, Grand Floridian sales were for current members only during this time period. In honor of the 50th anniversary of the “Main Street Electrical Parade”, this nighttime spectacular will return with an all-new, enchanted grand finale that celebrates the theme of togetherness. This universal theme is reflected in the creative concept of the grand finale sequence. These stories will be interpreted in thousands of sparkling lights and electro-synthe-magnetic musical sound, with unique representations of beloved characters as animated dolls. As the new grand finale passes by, guests along each side of the parade route will see a different set of stylized scenes from classic and contemporary favorite stories such as “Encanto,” “The Jungle Book,” “Raya and the Last Dragon,” “Aladdin,” “Coco,” “Mulan,” “Brave,” “The Princess and the Frog” and more.  Source: Disney Parks Blog New DVC Dining Discounts at Jellyrolls and Space 220 Eligible Disney Vacation Club members can now enjoy special discounts at the new Space 220 Restaurant in Epcot and at Jellyrolls piano bar on Disney’s Boardwalk.   Save 15% on Lunch and Dinner at Space 220 Restaurant.  The discount applies to the regular price of food and non-alcoholic beverages (excluding applicable tax and gratuity). N069 Disney Wish delayed by a month, Grand Floridian expansion update, and Bay Lake Tower direct discount
Pete, Shannon, and Sam from DCL Duo discuss the delay of the Disney Wish maiden voyage and the impact on the DVC member cruise. For DVC direct sales, 50% of the Big Pine Key building has been declared and DVC releases significant discounts on Bay Lake Tower. Hollywood Studios will have extended evening hours for one week in lieu of Magic Kingdom beginning April 13th. N069 Season 8 of the My DVC Points Podcast was brought to you by: DVC Resale Market - Industry Leader in DVC Resales DVC Rental Store - DVC Point Rentals Monera Financial - Exclusively Financing DVC Contracts Patreon supporters in the My DVC Points VIP Producer Club. Disney Wish Maiden Voyage and DVC Cruise delayed Disney has sent e-mails to all members scheduled to cruise on the DVC cruise on June 14th. The e-mail stated as follows:  “While we are all eagerly awaiting the ship’s debut, today we must share that our anticipation will unfortunately have to extend a bit longer than initially planned. The shipyard has notified us that despite their very best efforts, they will need more time to finish our ship due in part to the pandemic and particularly the arrival of the Omicron variant in Germany at a critical point in the process. As a result, we are left with no other choice than to delay our maiden voyage until July 14, 2022. This will regrettably affect the exclusive Disney Vacation Club cruise for which you have a reservation.  Since you were booked on the exclusive Disney Vacation Club cruise, we will automatically shift your reservation to the new Member sail date, July 19, 2022, at a 50 percent discount. If you are unable to move to this new date, you will have the option of either a 50 percent discount on a future cruise departing by December 31, 2023, with all reservation points and monies applied to that future cruise, or a full refund, including reimbursement of any cash and/or the return of any reservation points used for your reservation.” It’s important to note the difference between “Reservation Points” and “DVC Points”, as once points are converted to “Reservation Points,” they do not convert back to DVC Points.  Source: Disney Cruise Blog 50% of Grand Floridian Big Pine Key Building declared as part of Condo Association In a series of filings with the Orange County Comptroller's office, Disney Vacation Club has amended the Ground Lease, Declaration of Condominium and Membership Agreement to begin adding the "Phase 2" units to its Grand Floridian timeshare development. A total of 101 Resort Studios were added to the program, representing half of the 202 rooms which make up the project. The rooms formally added include most of the 3rd floor, plus all of the 4th and 5th floors of the Big Pine Key building. While these filings move Disney Vacation Club closer to selling additional points at the Grand Floridian, no prices or sale dates have yet been disclosed. With Disney's Riviera Resort, sales began about one month after similar declarations were filed. For reference, Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney's Wilderness Lodge opened sales just 15 days after such filings. Source: DVC News Extended Evening Hours switch to Hollywood studios for one week According to Disney Website - On Wednesday, April 13th, extended hours will be offered at Hollywood Studios instead of the usual Magic Kingdom hours. Magic Kingdom extended hours return to the rotation the following week. It is not known at this time what rides will be available at Hollywood Studios during the extended hours. Source: Disney World Website Deep discount on direct points at Bay Lake Tower Tim Krasniewski over at DVC News has indicated a current special incentive from Disney for Direct purchase at Bay Lake tower, with up to a $48 discount on points purchase. Remember, base price for BLT is $245 but discounts this large are rare for sold-out resorts.  For example, 200 points a new member would receive a $26 discount to $219, while an existing member can add-on 200 points with a $43 reduction bringing the price down to $202 per point.  This compares to $194 right now for 200 points at Riviera. So if you are a BLT superfan and insist on buying direct - now may be the time. Offer ends March 2nd.  Source: DVC News My DVC Points is an awesome community of DVC members.
