#273 Plan for the future and don't worry about what is said about you outside of the sport with Karl Dickson
Karl began his refereeing qualifications in January 2014 and continued to play for Harlequins while gaining experience officiating. This was made possible by the fact he never made the starting XV. Through the London Society of Referees he made his refereeing debut at the Reigate School 7s in March 2014 and since then has taken charge of a range of matches including schools, club juniors, sevens as well as local and national league clubs. Karl has refereed two A League semi-finals, Exeter v Newcastle in 2016 and Gloucester v Wasps in 2017 and made his debut in the Greene King IPA Championship in the Christmas Eve match between London Irish and Richmond. Three days later he was involved in Big Game 9 where Harlequins played Gloucester in the Aviva Premiership at Twickenham. After 169 appearances for Harlequins scrum-half Dickson announced his retirement in April and joins the Rugby Football Union's Professional Game Match Officials Team (PGMOT). Dickson said: "Over the last two years any time that I have had - a free Saturday or Sunday or even during the week - I would referee as many games as possible to get as much practice as I could. Every game you learn something new and gain increasing match sharpness. "I would always encourage players to plan for when they retire and the fact that I’ve been refereeing for three years already puts me in a position where I can look forward to starting with the team next season and, having refereed in a Championship game this year, hopefully officiate more at that level. I wouldn't have this opportunity unless I started when I did." In an interview to Rugby Players Association, he said refereeing at international level was his "main goal". A goal reached when in October 2020, Karl was appointed as the main referee in a friendly game between France and Wales, in the Stade de France. #269 Scalar Energy with Tom Paladino
Tom began research with Scalar Energy during his undergraduate years after developing a deep admiration for the father of Scalar Energy research or knowledge, Nikola Tesla. He was also able to study the work of a man Hieronymus who continued research on Scalar Energy. Hieronymus’ major contributions included unbinding the RNA/ DNA bonds of microbes plaguing the agricultural industry (rendering them harmless). The existence of such energy not found within the electromagnetic spectrum, fascinated Tom. Inspired by these findings, he pursued a course of independent study seeking to better understand and subsequently harness Scalar Energy, through the development of an instrument called “Scalar Light”. #265 Stop bullying yourself with Anna-Marie Frank
'We believe traditional treatments such as counseling, nutrition, detox, exercise, psychotherapy, and pharmaceuticals have their place in the recovery process. We also know, they’re not always successful for everyone. Matters of the mind and pains of the body and soul are often “intangible”. They often can’t be explained as readily as they are understood by a direct experience.' - Anna-Marie Frank Gift to you! #264 Imposter syndrome is a journey with Christine Hansen
Christine is a serialpreneur and love the rush of business but it took her a while to understand how to manage it all. A healthy business and a flourishing private life didn’t seem possible to her at first.  She is also a mother of a beautiful daughter and of 4 fur babies (3 kitties and 1 cutest ever sausage dog). "So getting everything organised has been a must each time I left for a few days or even a couple of weeks. And in 2019 that was no less than 15 times . . . So I get it when it comes to organising pick ups, food, homework, pet meds, after school activities, dog walks, etc, etc . . . it can be a lot! Even though I had to cut back thanks to “ the rona” I still traveled for my own pleasure whenever I could. And I’ve got to say I have truly nailed the process. By now, I rarely, if ever, check my phone and I know my team has it handled and I get back without piles of stuff to do whipping all traces of relaxation out of me." "Finally I want to share my belief with you that we should do our best to live a life worth inspiring others. Whether that is our children or aspiring business owners: self-prioritisation is key for a balanced business and private life and a strong mental health. So instead of being a slave to our business, let’s powerfully grasp the freedom we have in our businesses and demonstrate that by walking the walk . . . now that is being a role model. So I am inviting you to join me in that."   You can learn more about Chrisitine via her website christinemeansbusiness.com and connect with her on Linkedin, Facebook and Instagram   For more information about James Roberts (the host of the podcast), visit jamesowenroberts.com and connect with him on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Instagram

#263 Through injury and back with Regan Phillips
Let me give you a bit of background so that you can see where Regan's passion and love for rugby and fitness came from. He's been rugby-mad since he was a kid. He played every weekend at any chance he could get, playing for local teams and captaining the Essex U18s. Unfortunately, his biscuit knees halted his playing career with 3 surgeries by the time he was 17. During his rehab, he started learning strongman movements and was able to enter strongman competitions. He even got up to Britain’s Strongest Man u90kg before, you guessed it, getting injured again. Despite these setbacks, his determination and love for training made him want to continue, but this time with a new angle. With everything he had learnt through rugby, strongman and life, he focussed on helping others achieve their goals. That’s when his coaching career started. Within 9 months his diary was filled with personal training, group coaching, fitness classes and S&C sessions. He built a community of like-minded guys all looking to lose weight, feel great, and play better rugby. He then branched into online coaching, where he found he could help more guys from all around the UK (and further) to achieve their physical and performance goals.   You can learn more about Regan via his website regansrugby.com    For more information about James Roberts (the host of the podcast), visit jamesowenroberts.com and connect with him on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

#257 Personal Best with Marc Woods
A county standard swimmer as a teenager, Marc had his left leg amputated because of cancer when he was 17. His dream became to simply be the best that he could be and just 18 months after he finished his chemotherapy he was selected to represent Great Britain. Marc competed internationally as a swimmer for 17 years; winning 12 Paralympic medals from 5 Games and a further 21 from World and European Championships. In the past, he has held world records for 200m, 400m, 1500m Freestyle, as well as being part of the team that held the world record for 4 x 100m Freestyle. Since retiring from swimming in 2004 he has worked for both the BBC and CH4 at the Paralympic Games in Beijing2008, London2012 and Rio2016 and most recently Tokyo2020 When Marc retired from international swimming he embarked on a series of new challenges, including trekking in Nepal, Ecuador and Peru (the Inca Trail) and developing his mountaineering skills. To date, he has climbed the world’s highest volcano, Cotopaxi in Ecuador, Mont Pelvoux, part of the Massif des Ecrins in France and the 22,200ft Mera Peak in Nepal. “Whether you succeed or fail to achieve specific goals you have to replace them. Turning my attention to mountaineering after I retired from swimming refocused my energy. In doing this I came to realise that focusing on achieving my potential was both more sustainable and rewarding than obsessing on specific outcomes like winning a Gold medal or summiting a peak.” But not forgetting in 2005 he wrote Personal Best, a combination of my life story and personal development advice and more recently Beyond The Call You can learn more about Mark via his website marcwoods.com and connect with him on Twitter and LinkedIn For more information about James Roberts (the host of the podcast), visit jamesowenroberts.com and connect with him on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

#248 Control that perspective with Ashley Lyn Olson
At 14, Ashley was paralyzed in a horrible car wreck that took the life of her father, physically disabled her mother, and injured her younger sister. That one moment transformed her entire world, but it did not dampen her spirit. In 2010,  Ashley  had to have life-or-death surgery for a pressure sore, due to being paralyzed from  the car accident , followed by a long recovery of endless bed rest. Eight of those weeks were spent in a nursing home where she was forced to lay on her back 24/7—to eat, take pills and go to the bathroom. She wasn't allowed to sit up.  She was confined to a special, medical bed.  Through mindfulness, meditation and appreciation of the present moment, she  was able to control her perception and find eternal peace in a stereotypical unpleasant environment.  She is writer, educational speaker and she loves to travel. In 2006, she launched wheelchairtraveling. com as a resource for others with disabilities. Today about 25,000 people each month visit wheelchairtraveling.com for accessible travel information. She has tons of travel adventure stories to discuss, including solo trips to Japan and New Zealand and zip lining in Ecuador. All while paralyzed!!! Was recently featured on the “POSITIVE EXPOSURES Connects” virtual interview series, the Christopher and Dave Reeve Foundation website, Sandi Klein’s “Conversations With Creative Women”. and The Write Reflection 2021 winter newsletter. She just finished her first book, "Confined to Align "   You can learn more about Ashley via her website wheelchairtraveling.com and connect with her on Instagram   For more information about James Roberts (the host of the podcast), visit jamesowenroberts.com and connect with him on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
