Outdoor Magazine is Michigan's premier outdoor radio show. The three hour program is hosted by veteran outdoor broadcaster Mike Avery. Each week Mike talks with outdoor experts and industry leaders about the latest techniques, strategies and equipment, as well as hunting and fishing news. Avery also has tips and suggestions on where to go and how to get the most from your next outdoor adventure.

  John Cleveland is my first guest this week. John talks about the family owned, Michigan based Eppinger Company. They’ve been making the Dardevle spoon for more than a century. Then, some thoughts on the Michigan Wildlife Council and their “Here for Generations” campaign to promote hunting and fishing. Hour two kicks off with Michigan Spearfisherman John Durtka. John describes his sport and why it can be tough to shoot fish. Northern Ontario bear guide Ron St.Louis is up next. Ron owns Northern Wilderness Bear Outfitters. He describes his bear hunting operation in White River. Boating safety is the topic in Hour 3 this week as I talk with retired Coastguardsman and current Charter Captain Joe Marion. Jason Horton is my first guest this week. Jason is with the Michigan Bowfishing Association. He talks about the appeal of that sport and how to get started. “Mr. Angler Quest“, Brad Dupuie is up next. He has an update on the progress toward coming out with his own line of fishing pontoons. Hour two features “Uncle Ted”, the “Whackmaster” Ted Nugent. Ted talks about the role of hunting today and how the Fred Bear song came to be. Chad Fedewa from the Michigan DNR is up next. He talks about the springtime whitetail fawning season. The hour wraps up with this week’s “Ask Avery” segment. The question is answer by Sgt. Mark Papineau of the DNR. We’re talking fishing in Hour 3 with Lance Valentine of Teachin Fishin. Lance is wrapping up his season on the Detroit River and heading north to Saginaw Bay for the summer trolling season. Next, Justin Tomei from MUCC joins me with an update out of Lansing. We also talk about the charity golf outing in July to benefit their Youth Camp.
