Tracy and Jill explore the balance between being too monotone and lacking energy versus being overly enthusiastic and inauthentic, while emphasizing the need to tap into one's best vocal energy and connect with the audience on an emotional level. The biggest mistake new online entrepreneurs make is decision paralysis; the biggest mistake you could make is not starting your business because you don’t have everything for your brand figured out yet. There’s an evolution of self over time and, just like in fitness, it takes reps to figure things out (including yourself!). In this episode, Jill and branding expert Kristen Crowley talk about the 101’s of branding: what it is, why you need it, and how to utilize your branding to attract clients who will actually pay for your services. Starting a business and building your personal brand is a lot like starting a fitness journey—you have to keep it simple and focus on simplicity before you can try out the more complicated things. In this episode, Jill discusses a mindset tool that has helped her navigate challenges in her business. She emphasizes that there are no new stories in business and that every entrepreneur will face struggles and setbacks—setbacks that include unsubscribes and unfollows, refund requests, team issues, haters and trolls, being plagiarized, losing money, and launches going sideways. Jill encourages all levels of entrepreneurs to normalize these challenges and view them as part of the journey. After all, your business will only grow to the level of problems you can handle. How much—if any at all—of your personal life should you be sharing on social media? There’s a difference between a “business” and a “brand,” and if you want people to connect with you on a personal level, then you have to be willing to share a little about the person behind the account. Sharing personal stories builds trust and authenticity, and lets your audience in on your personal values and the kind of person they can expect to work with. In short, it builds super-fans who buy from you because they know exactly who you are and connect with you on a personal level. In this episode, Jill shares her own experiences and insights on sharing her own personal life, and discusses the balance between sharing personal content and providing educational content so you can build meaningful connections with your audience, while also providing them with strategies that gets them results. Running a membership is hard work—not only do you have to keep your members engaged, but you have the difficult task of convincing people that joining at a monthly fee is worth it. In this episode, Jill shares a strategy she calls the “catch-all method” to increase membership numbers. The catch-all method involves selling a live webinar each month and giving members free access (along with whatever benefits your membership has). But it’s not enough to just have the webinar, it has to be extremely compelling and enticing. She suggests doing this strategy every four to eight weeks and highlights the need to provide a great experience to retain members. The summer months are upon us, and as the temperatures raise, people spend more time outside or traveling, and online business tends to slow down. But just because business is slower, doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t have any successful launches. Today, Jill discusses the do's and don'ts of summer promotions and launches. If you want your offers to sell, you need to work on specific messaging that overcomes the objection of not wanting to do something during the summer, or even consider low-ticket, accountability-based programs that are lower maintenance and don't require a lot of one-on-one attention. The key is to make your offers feel different and tailored to the summer season, that way you’re ready to go when fall rolls around. There’s traditional marketing, and then there’s marketing around the marketing. Your marketing doesn’t have to be gimmicky—you can build a strategy based around transparency and inclusion by including your audience in the process of creating and launching a product or program. Jill calls this the 'marketing around the marketing' and in this episode, she explains how it builds anticipation, familiarity, and a sense of exclusivity for your audience. By including them in the journey, they become more invested and likely to purchase your offering. The more you talk about what you’re up to, the better it’ll do!
