Show cover of I Already Told You That

I Already Told You That

This is a podcast about music and each week Melissa brings a new artist...or it should be said, a new artist to Bryan. The funny thing is, this music shouldn't be new as it's been playing in their house for over twenty years. Join us for a nostalgic trip through alt music of the 70s, 80s, 90s and more and to see if she can make it stick for real this time. Each episode comes with a bonus music mix of the featured artist so you can listen along.

Insert "it's been awhile here"…but there is a reason! We moved and Melissa went to school for a bit so we've been a bit distracted. But we are not distracted with this return episode…which is a little long BUT TOTALLY WORTH IT! Melissa brings Bryan the band Medicine. Hailing from Los Angeles Medicine brings the noise-gaze as Melissa coined it. We go deep into their debut "Shot Forth Self Living" and follow up stone cold classic…"The Buried Life". Be sure to listen to both records all the way through after you hear our celebration of this great band. This week Melissa brings us a real bummer of a band...Idaho, specifically their 1996 classic album "Three Sheets to The Wind". Melissa loves the pure slow and mellow tones of Idaho's songs. There are lots of hearts on this one and Bryan brings back the stone-cold-classic label for the song "Shame"! This is a great album that we love and we think you will too. This week Melissa brings the dream pop, slow core, and avant guardness, of Hugo Largo to Bryan who…as the podcast has revealed over the 5 years they've been doing it, has no idea who they are. BUT as usual Bryan is intrigued and so will you be by this dreamy mix of vocals, bass, stings and other instruments that together form the beautiful and unique sound that is Hugo Largo. Welcome back and happy 2025! Melissa put in the work this week with the band Wade. She unearthed some old, as she calls them, "comp tapes" and re-rememberd one of her favorite bands. She discovered Wade through a 45 with hand written notes that connected Wade to Red House painters and once she gave it a listen she was hooked! Anyway, Melissa reached out to a member of the band who gave her some insight of how the band formed and all about their self-titled album "Wade". Please enjoy and please check out the mix and other music from Wade bass player and singer, Eve Bekker as well as Joe Goldring's other project, "Enablers".  Wade mix on YouTube Music Wade's second full album - unreleased   Wade on Discogs Eve Bekker on Bandcamp | Sound Cloud | YouTube  Joe Goldring's band "Enablers" on Bandcamp

We are unearthing this episode on the band Slowdive from way back in the beginning days of, I Already Told You That, not just because they are such a seminal influence but Melissa has now seen them live four times on their current tour! This time around she is back in the good ol US- of-A AND she has friends, that she connected with through this podcast, who are also big fans of Slowdive! Together they took a pilgrmage to see the band together. Melissa chats with these friends that she connected with over a shared love of music. They discuss that love of music and finding people that also share that love of music through pen pals and friendship books. Speaking of friendship books, what an amazing, before-there-was-the-internet thing. Here's one that Melissa knew Bryan would know...even if it took him a minute to re-remember. This episode Melissa brings the indie rock with the lovely melodic guitars and vocals of Sebadoh. Melissa is focusing on their 1991 album, "Sebadoh III". Melissa and Bryan came to this band from differnt angles but both truely enjoy what Sebadoh has to offer. Bryan connects to the spine tingling guitar hooks and Melissa to the low-fi noise production and heart warming lyrics. But they come together on the melodies and just the all around 4-track weirdness and rocking of Sebadoh's sound. This week the mix is actually just the whole album, "Sebadoh III" please enjoy our chat and check out the whole album and go buy it at a store for christ sake!! We are deeply saddened with the passing of Sinead O'Connor. To remember her we are re-releasing the episode we put out in February 2021 when Melissa professed her true love for Sinead and talked about some of the lesser known, but certainly not lesser sounding songs. Melissa focused on her work as a musician and her substantial influence on somebody...who is the main host of this podcast...and don't fear we also got into some great songs that you will be familiar with. Remember Sinead, listen to her beutiful music, and know that she will be loved forever.  Sinead O'Connor Mix on YouTube Music Sinead O'Connor Mix on Spotify

I guess we are back on a roll..this week back in the 1991 pocket with the band Chapterhouse and their stone cold classic record "Whirlpool". Melissa decided after the epic Dead Can Dance episode to hone this one in a bit and just focus on one record from this band that she loves. Even if you have never heard of Chapterhouse you have heard their influence on 90's era "alt-rock" and hiphop. Check it out it'll only take you an hour this time and you might just get up off your duff and shake it a little bit!! This weeks's Chapterhouse "Whirlpool" mix is no really a mix but rather the whole album plus a couple tracks demonstrating the two separate releases and the quality difference on the tracks.
