I Need Blue, hosted by Jen Lee, is a podcast series featuring lived-experiences from survivors of life events. I NEED BLUE creates space for survivors of trauma to feel they BELONG, are LOVED, UNDERSTOOD and EMPOWERED! I called 9-1-1 and they provided me with life-saving directions to help my customer who was having a medical emergency. Law enforcement rescued us and caught the robber. "Humor gives us a break from the stress. So if we're in this state of stress and we have a chance to laugh, that's a momentary break and that's helpful and healthy and healing." - Ron CulbersonRon Culberson was always the class clown in school, making people laugh through creative announcements. After graduating college, Ron was curious and began researching the psychology of humor, eventually becoming an expert in it. One of the main findings Ron learned was Norman Cousins, who found that 20-30 minutes of laughter could control pain. Now, Ron uses humor to connect with people and help them cope with stress, grief and loss. He believes that humor helps us to see the world from a different perspective, and that 90% of stress is based on how we view our circumstances. Even in difficult situations, humor can bring a lightheartedness and connection between people.Ron Culberson is an expert on humor and laughter, having studied the psychology of humor and spoken at hospice conferences. He is a speaker, author, and humorist, and has written four books, including Is Your Glass Laugh Full. He uses his experience as a hospice, social worker, healthcare leader, EMT, and firefighter to deliver a practical message that helps his audiences become more successful in life and work.In this episode, you will learn the following:1. How humor can be used to cope with grief and trauma.2. The power of humor to change perspectives.3. The importance of being present in the moment to spot humor. To learn more about Ron:https://ronculberson.com/You can also research and purchase his books on his web-site. Bonus episode This is my story. The third one, to be precise. I decided to read a story from my book, Why I Survived, by Jennifer Lee. It was published in February 2023.  "Never apologize to anyone for trusting your gut" ~ Jennifer Lee  During a break, a man approached me and asked about my podcast. “I’m a survivor of armed robbery and abduction and started my podcast to create a place where survivors of life events can share their stories. I focus on uncomfortable topics—domestic violence, human trafficking, fentanyl, the foster care system, etc. I partner with local, national, and international organizations providing trauma survivors resources. In addition, I put a spotlight on the unique traumas our first responders face,” I replied. I asked him the same question. As he spoke, I was listening to him, but I was also observing him. “I interview people who . . .” His words were being drowned out as I developed a feeling that something wasn’t right. My instincts were alerting me to pay attention. He finished speaking and asked if he could take our picture. “Sure,” I said. We exchanged business cards and headed off in our directions, the something- isn’t-right feeling lingering after he walked away.   Saturday morning Matt and I walked the conference center halls, burning off some calories from breakfast. We passed Creepy Guy as he headed in the opposite direction. At this point, I walked past him with my head down, not wanting to acknowledge his presence. “He watched you the whole time as he passed us,” Matt told me.  To order your autographed copy of, Why I Survived by Jennifer Lee, How sharing my story helped me heal from dating abuse, armed robbery, abduction, and other forms of trauma, visit https://whyisurvived.com/Please leave a review on Amazon even when purchased through my web-site: https://www.amazon.com/review/create-review/edit?ie=UTF8&channel=glance-detail&asin=B0BTDPFKJYSupport the show

"Being courageous is commitment. It's being dedicated to a cause or to a purpose. It's really to fight through the fear, through the unknown." ~ Randy MortensenRandy Mortensen is an accelerated business growth guide, published author, global speaker, and founder/host of God Took Me To Las Vegas Podcast.  One day, his five-year-old son was rushed to the hospital for an emergency appendectomy and, due to medical neglect, overdosed on potassium, killing him. This compounded the grief he was already feeling from losing a parent. His destructive decisions continued until he was on a flight home, staring at five miniature bottles of Scotch.    Randy began speaking about his desire to quit drinking. He told his wife but needed to tell someone else. He told his brother, “I’m going to quit drinking.” His brother replied, "How often have I heard you say that? A thousand times over the years.  I don't believe it. I don't buy it. Do you know how much wreckage you have caused in our family? Do you know how damaging your behavior has been? Until now, Randy wasn't ready to listen. These statements  were the confirmation Randy needed that it was time to change.   While living in Las Vegas, Randy attended a 28-day inpatient treatment program in St. George, Utah. Las Vegas offered 4-5 AA meetings a day. Attending many meetings daily, Randy says that is what saved his life. Today, through his relationship with God, Randy's mission is  saving lives and restoring relationships. He has since celebrated 32 years of sobriety and has dedicated his life to helping others in recovery.
