How and Why Should I Respond with Love to People Who Hurt Me?
Someone recently asked me this question about how to respond to people who hurt us. I get it, believe me. Our first (unconscious) instinctual reaction is to respond with anger. But this would be a reaction that lacks wisdom, patience, perspective, and most importantly, efficacy. It is just not effective when communicating to respond with anger. People's walls go up and they dig even deeper into their positions. So how can we see the error of that small thinking? How can we step back and see the bigger picture? How can we respond most effectively? To do this, we need to maintain our composure so we can see the situation as it truly is and how best to proceed. By not losing ourselves in rage, and through a little careful analysis, we can see there is never any need to be angry, there is no need to hate, and there is no benefit to conflict. In this episode, I explain why love is the only answer, and how to love even our greatest enemies. We are all only here because of love. Someone nourished and nurtured us as babies because of love. Love can save lives, and the lack of love is what has caused all violence and cruelty in this world. Love isn't some fantasy or hippy thing. It literally can change the world. Please enjoy other episodes where Todd shares meditation techniques, tips and spiritual lessons from around the world for peaceful and stress-free living. Why Do I Have Weird Sensations While Meditating?
One person recently asked me, "Why do I get extreme tingling in my face and fingers when meditating?"The fact is, it is not uncommon for a wide variety of sensations and reactions to occur when we meditate. It's not the meditation that caused it. It's the meditation that allowed this buried feeling/trauma/pain to come to the surface and start to heal.No matter what comes up in meditation, allow it to be without any negative feelings about it. What happens when we do this is we train our mind to accept without negativity whatever is happening in the present moment. This is how the practice of meditation is the practice of life. Differing sensations will come and go. Simply watch them come and let them go. In this episode, Todd talks how to do just that. Please enjoy other episodes where Todd shares meditation techniques, tips and spiritual lessons from around the world for peaceful and stress-free living. What to Do If You Feel Burnt Out at Work?
Burnout is the result of self-sabotage in the moment at the expense of ourself in the future. We think if we just work a little harder, if we just push ourselves and stretch ourself a little more, that we'll eventually reach the success we want and have the happiness we need. In reality, we're sacrificing our mental and physical health that will only result in a major setback when our brain and body say, "Enough!"Here I'll talk about a few ways we can work smarter, always stay centered and rested, and even get more done. Please enjoy other episodes where Todd shares meditation techniques, tips and spiritual lessons from around the world for peaceful and stress-free living. How to Deal with Childhood Trauma?
Learning to let go is a lot harder when it's letting go of childhood trauma. When we're young, experiences will shape how we see the world for the rest of our lives. It becomes deeply engrained and becomes that much harder to heal from. But there are ways to do it. It is possible to reach deep into our psyche and pull out those weeds of trauma and plant beautiful flowers of love, trust, and gratitude. In this episode, I share how we can all start the healing process from trauma, how we can make peace with what happened, how we can be more present and how we can transform the deep-seeded conditioning of our minds. Please enjoy other episodes where Todd shares meditation techniques, tips and spiritual lessons from around the world for peaceful and stress-free living. Today on the podcast I answer the question, "How can I become spiritual?" Before really answering this question, we have to talk about what the word "spiritual" even means.  To every person it can mean something slightly different.  In this episode I lay out what spirituality means to me and how we all have the potential to tap into our rich inner spirit of love, gratitude, peace and bliss. Please enjoy other episodes where Todd shares meditation techniques, tips and spiritual lessons from around the world for peaceful and stress-free living. Can ai Expand Our Consciousness?
The future is coming at us fast. If we look at the trend of where technology is headed, we can see robotics and software becoming smarter, faster, and smaller. In many ways, computers are smarter than humans, but a computer still can't design a computer better than humans can. They lack the creativity and the conscious awareness that humans have. So, if the seemingly inevitable merger of humans and machines does take place, will ai be able to expand our consciousness? Is the merging good or bad? Will it make us more human, or less human? And ultimately, will it be a tool to further our spiritual journey or will it prevent spiritual progress? The answer may surprise you. Please enjoy other episodes where Todd shares meditation techniques, tips and spiritual lessons from around the world for peaceful and stress-free living. The Best Meditation for Calming Inner Voice
Some people have such a loud voice in their head, that they are actually unaware they have a voice in their head at all. It's gotten so noisy and constant, that we don't even have the awareness to hear it because we are completely lost in our thoughts. In those cases, only when a person sits down to meditate and they actually turn their attention inward, do they discover the presence of this unrelenting voice. This voice is inside of us, and yet we cannot control it. It's like having an alien visitor living with us. And what do you do when you meet an alien visitor? You make peace with it. Your work together. And then eventually, you become best friends who only exist to help each other. In this episode, I'll share they key for turning that loud negative voice into your personal helper. Please enjoy other episodes where Todd shares meditation techniques, tips and spiritual lessons from around the world for peaceful and stress-free living. How to Fight Jealousy
Jealousy can be one of our most insidious emotions that can end lifelong relationships. Instead of feeling happy for others' success, we feel negative emotions for which we put up walls so as not to feel it, but really we're just closing ourselves in and blocking everyone else out. We can't fight our subconscious emotions because they are a part of us. But, we can use higher self, our conscious awareness, to work with our negative feelings and transform them into positive ones. In this episode I'll explain how to do just that. Please enjoy other episodes where Todd shares meditation techniques, tips and spiritual lessons from around the world for peaceful and stress-free living. How to Meditate for Overthinking
Most of us have a voice in our head that constantly searches for something to obsess about. It scavenges and scavenges endlessly. There is just no seeming endpoint for this thought-chaser. No matter what happens, our mind will try to label, judge and analyze it forever and ever.  Why won't our minds just do what they're told?!This inner voice disrupts our inner peace and usually creates problems where none existed before. So how do we turn it off? How can use our minds more efficiently and more peaceful? And how can we stop our minds from fixating on negative things? Is mindfulness about controlling our thoughts or suppressing them? What even is the difference? Are they even possible things to achieve? Is Meditation More About Being Aware of My Inner World or Outer World?
When we meditate, where is the best place to put our focus? Within or out? This is a common question and the answer isn't as simple as one or the other. Mindfulness is about becoming aware of both. But if that's the case, how do we divide up our attention between the two?Sometimes we can be so lost in our mind that we are completely unaware of our surroundings. Other times, we can be so busy in our activities that our mental and physical health can suffer. So where should we put our attention? In this episode, I share the answer to this important question and the key to raising our awareness both within and out. Please enjoy other episodes where Todd shares meditation techniques, tips and spiritual lessons from around the world for peaceful and stress-free living. Is Meditation a Placebo?
Meditation can often look like doing nothing, but that can't be further from the truth. Meditation is very active. It is the act of being between highly alert and highly relaxed. Being between these two states trains our mind and body to later do all the things we do when we interact with the world around us, and yet remain in a very peaceful state.Meditation is the literal training of our mind to be focused, patient, highly aware and highly peaceful. It trains our mind to tap into the inner peace and joy within. While it is not a placebo, placebos are actually a very powerful tool we can all use in our lives. Placebos are why a sugar pill can cure someone of their cancer. Simply believing something is helpful does make it so.In this episode, I'll share the truth about meditation, and how we can use the placebo effect to our advantage and to improve our daily lives. Please enjoy other episodes where Todd shares meditation techniques, tips and spiritual lessons from around the world for peaceful and stress-free living. How to Meditate When You're in Physical Pain
Being in pain can make doing the things we need to do feel almost impossible. When we're in pain, we're not thinking clearly. We are fixated on the pain and we are often mad that we are not feeling well. This is why meditation is most important when we are in physical pain. So how do we meditate in pain?Recent scientific studies have shown that meditation can actually lesson our experience of pain! And so often, it is our resistance, fear and mental turmoil that is often worse than the physical pain itself. And this mental distress can also make the pain feel amplified. In this episode, I'll share how to meditate when we're in pain, why the clarity that comes from meditation can lesson our pain, and how meditation can even help the body heal faster! Please enjoy other episodes where Todd shares meditation techniques, tips and spiritual lessons from around the world for peaceful and stress-free living. Can I Meditate without Focusing on Anything?
Today, Todd talks about whether or not we can meditate while focusing on nothing. The thing is, being unfocused is just our normal state of mind. We typically go about our days just responding to whatever we perceive and whatever thought pops into our head. We are a slave to our impulses. Learning to focus, by practicing focus, is taking control of our mind. It's using your intentions to guide your attention, not reacting unconsciously to every shiny thing that steals your focus. Why Has Meditation Turned Me Sad?
Sometimes, when we first start meditating, sadness and other extreme emotions may feel like they're being stirred up. But, these emotions aren't created by meditation, they are revealed by meditation. Most of our lives are spent distracted. We're always so busy doing, we don't pay any real attention to our inner world. In this episode, Todd goes into why these emotions come up in meditation, how we can process what comes up in meditation, and why they are A-OK. Because they, like all phenomenon, are only temporary. How to Get My Mind to Fully Embrace Meditation
Oftentimes, when we first try meditation, our mind is the biggest obstacle. From simple ways of approaching meditation to how to other techniques, you'll learn how to control your mind properly. How to Use Meditation to Gain Insights About Yourself?
Meditation isn't just for chilling out. It is a powerful tool that trains our minds to be present, focused, aware, peaceful and joyful. It's not about the time we spend sitting down with our eyes closed in meditation. It's about how that time improves the rest of our lives.Gaining insights into ourselves and our own mind is one of the greatest ways meditation can improve our lives. The more we observe the nature and quality of our thoughts, the greater wisdom we develop about ourselves and our place in the universe. Using meditation properly can help us gain understanding that can be used to transform our lives. In this episode, I explain how to use meditation to not just gain insights, but to even find creative solutions to any problem we may be facing. Does Chanting a Mantra Count as Meditation?
With so many apps and gurus out there today, the number of types of meditations have exploded.  There are ancient ones and brand new untested ones. So how do we know which ones are the best, which ones are a waste of time, and which ones may even have negative effects? In this episode, I go into depth about the two most common types of meditation, mantra and breath meditation. Breath is where we simply observe our breath with our entire focus. Mantra is where we repeat a mantra to ourselves. The very popular Transcendental Meditation, or TM, uses mantra meditation, whereas breath awareness meditation tends to be used in the school of mindfulness. I explain the differences and benefits to both types of meditation, and whether or not mantra meditation does indeed count as meditation. Please enjoy other episodes where Todd shares meditation techniques, tips and spiritual lessons from around the world for peaceful and stress-free living. Finding the Middle Path in Thailand
Buddha often speaks of the middle path. You can think of it as the Goldilocks path — not too hot, not too cold. But this doesn't just apply to food. It applies to our spiritual path as well. We don't want to be too lazy and get no results, but we also don't want to be too rigid so that we either burn out or we become too extreme about it that it becomes detrimental. In this episode, Todd talks about finally finding his spiritual middle path in a Buddhist monastery in Thailand. On retreat there, he found the perfect balance between rigidity and leniency. It was a beautiful retreat on an island off the coast of Thailand, the living conditions were bare, but the peace and beauty and the birds chirping more than made up for it.Please enjoy other episodes where Todd shares meditation techniques, tips and spiritual lessons from around the world for peaceful and stress-free living. How to Forgive Myself for Past Actions?
Sometimes (all the time), we are our own worst critic. We talk to ourselves in ways we would never tolerate anyone else speaking to us. We believe our own criticism and we have a hard time believing our own — or other people's — praise.Today, Todd talks about this baggage from our past that we carry with us, and how to set it down. The past can never be negative. It was what it was. It happened in the past and it no longer even exists. If we learn from the past, if we use what we've learned, and if we can move forward with greater wisdom and experience, then we can even turn it into a positive. In this podcast series, Todd shares meditation techniques, tips and spiritual lessons from around the world for peaceful and stress-free living.
