In this episode, Mike talks with former pro-bowl cornerback James Hasty & Dr. Steven Cureton of UNC-Greensboro about all the work they are doing with their firm Eneje, to ensure the NFL has more diversity & inclusion within their hiring practices.  James Hasty was a former pro-bowl cornerback who played 13 seasons in the NFL, from 1988 to 2001, with the NY Jets, KC Chiefs & one season with the Oakland Raiders.  Hasty finished his career with more than 1,000 career tackles & 45 interceptions.  He also spent five years in the broadcast booth as a college & NFL analyst for ESPN.  Currently, he is the founder of ENEJE, which is the first African-American owned search firm working exclusively in the sports industry to help ensure more diversity and inclusion in sports.   Dr. Steven Cureton is a Professor of Sociology at UNC-Greensboro who recently published a report entitled Minority Outsiders: An Examination of the NFL’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Habits in Hiring Head Coaches  'Check The Stats' is a podcast production from The Analyst. Former USC and Pittsburgh quarterback, now college football analyst Max Browne joins host Mike Leon for this episode of 'Check The Stats' taking a closer look at how stats have influenced his career both on-and-off the field. They talk about what stats he used as a player to prepare himself for a game, in particular the time he came up against Nick Saban's Alabama side, and also how he aims to paint a picture for his audiences now behind the microphone. Max Browne was the former #1 high school quarterback in the country in 2013 out of the Seattle, WA area, winning top honors in the US All-American game. He committed to USC, and after some injury setbacks at USC, transferred to Pitt to finish his college career. Max started games for both the Trojans & Panthers respectively, throwing for 1647 yards, 7 TDs & 4 INTs in his college career in limited action. Randazzo also works as a national play-by-play television and radio broadcaster across other sports for the likes of FOX Sports, Big Ten Network and Sports USA. In the premiere episode of 'Check The Stats', Mike Leon is joined by former NFL quarterback Ray Lucas to explore his use of stats both on-and-off the field. During their chat they look at the current state of play in the NFL, whether the Jets gave up on Sam Darnold too early, the best advice Zach Wilson can receive right now, the Aaron Rodgers situation in Green Bay, what to expect from Ben Roethlisberger this season, stories from Ray's time playing for Bill Parcells, potential surprise packages for the upcoming season as well as taking a closer look at The Analyst's positional rankings. And of course some Rutgers chat as well. Despite bursting onto the scene at Rutgers, Ray Lucas went undrafted in 1996 before linking up with Bill Parcells in New England, eventually moving with his head coach to the Jets in 1997 where he would make his NFL debut. Injuries to Vinny Testaverde saw him become the Jets starter during the 1999 season where he bounced back from losses in his first two games to win the next four and lead the Jets to an 8-8 record. A move to Miami in 2001 saw the last of his action in the NFL before returning to New York as a Jets studio analyst for SNY before becoming the color commentator for the Rutgers Football Radio Network.
