Journey from Porn Star to Preacher
New to Hollywood and hungry for success, model/actor Joshua Broome agreed to do a porn film “just to put [his] toe in the water.” When word got back to his hometown, though, the shame convinced him a porn star was all he’d ever be, and he ended up appearing in more than 1,000 adult films before finally leaving the industry in 2013. But with the help of a loving wife, a good spiritual advisor, and friends willing to hold him accountable, Joshua realized he didn’t have to be defined by his past—and that God had so much more in store for his future. Today a sought-after speaker and author of 7 Lies That Will Ruin Your Life, Joshua speaks with Nate Dewberry about the bad choices and misconceptions that sent him down a dark path, as well as the lessons that helped him realize he was still worthy of God’s love. For anyone convinced that past mistakes have rendered them unworthy and unlovable, this week’s Redeemed Man podcast is a must-listen.Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. I Was in Prison, and You Came to Me
At just 16 years old, Jonathan Irons was tried as an adult, convicted, and sentenced to 50 years in prison—all for a burglary and assault he didn’t commit. Strengthened by his faith and a prison ministry that believed in him, he endured 22 years of incarceration before being released in 2020. Today, he and his wife, former WNBA superstar Maya Moore, run Win With Justice, a nonprofit educating the public about how the justice system works, the potential for abuses that exist—and how people can help prisoners looking for a second chance. This week Jonathan tells his stunning story to Paul Amos and Nate Dewberry, and shares his reflections on how anyone can live out Jesus’s call to help “the least of [His] people.”Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. Redemption, Second Chances, and Basketball
A year ago, podcast guest Matt Bostic shared his story of losing his grip in the wake of his mother’s death, developing a serious drinking problem, finally finding God’s redemption with the help of committed counselors—and becoming one of those counselors as program director for the Life House ministry. This week, he’s back with an update on how Life House is expanding with the help of partner ministries to bring hope and healing to even more men and women seeking a fresh start. He also talks with Nate Dewberry about how to help others without draining yourself, the joys of grandfatherhood, and how he’ll be using his love of basketball to raise support for Life House in a unique effort this fall.Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. “The Redeemed Man” has reached its 100th episode, and Redeemed founder Paul Amos and director Nate Dewberry take the opportunity to look back on the past four years. They talk about the podcast’s beginnings, when it helped keep the entire ministry project from being completely derailed by COVID, and how it’s helped build The Redeemed community; they also recall some of their most memorable moments, and spotlight the people who help make it happen.Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. The Unmet Longings That Drive Us to Sin
Like many young people who’ve grown up in physically and emotionally abusive households, Ben Bennett turned to self-destructive methods to find the acceptance and fulfillment he’d never received from his parents—from overconsumption of food and alcohol to pornography. After trying unsuccessfully to shake his porn addiction on his own, Ben connected with Dr. Ted Roberts and Pure Desire Ministries, who taught him about the neuroscience of his sinful behaviors. For the past 10 years, Ben has worked with ministry leaders and therapists alike to help others kick their destructive behaviors by digging into the “unmet longings” behind them. Ben talks with Nate Dewberry this week about his struggles as a young man and how he finally broke free of them, and offers encouragement to other struggling men who believe—wrongly, as he once did—that their sins have caused God to turn His back.Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. What I’ve Learned from Being a Widower
Nine years ago, Daniel Brooker lost the only woman he’d ever loved, his wife Lyndsie, to ovarian cancer. As he struggled to stay strong in his faith and communicate what he was feeling to others, he discovered that while there are many support groups and resources for widows, there were glaringly few for widowers. The experience prompted him to found Refuge, a ministry for men dealing with the loss of a beloved spouse. This week Daniel talks with Redeemed founder Paul Amos about his journey and everything he’s learned from it, one of the most important being how to (and how not to) communicate with someone who’s suffered a monumental loss: “Don’t tell someone it’s going to be OK—stay with them until they can say it themselves.”   Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. Purpose, Leadership, and Unity
Lawrence Scott was raised by a long line of ministers, played football at the U.S. Military Academy, served in the Army, and worked as a pastor himself, so it’s safe to say he’s acquired a lot of knowledge about leadership from a wide variety of sources. Nate Dewberry talks with Lawrence about what he’s learned in this week’s Redeemed Man podcast, from the need for humility to finding your life purpose even when life doesn’t pan out exactly as you’d planned. They also talk about “LoSco Speaks,” the purpose-based leadership program he launched in 2020, and how American Christians can unify the church—and society—by focusing less on finding fault in one another and more on following the example of Jesus.Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. Luke Parker is a college athlete, a reality show contestant, and a modern man who, like many of us, has faced difficulties and temptations in life. However, he has found the security of God's love and the knowledge that he is not alone in his struggles to be a source of strength. Luke, a competitive CrossFit athlete, describes himself and others as "fellow beggars" searching for bread. Will You Finish Strong?
As a former lieutenant in the Army’s Delta Force antiterrorism unit, Jeff Tiegs has seen combat and strife as far away as Panama, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Now retired from the military, he is putting his strategic and intelligence-gathering skills to use on behalf of exploited women all over the world as the president of Skull Games, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting sexual predators and human trafficking. In this week’s podcast with Nate Dewberry, Jeff talks about the work his team does and the ways in which sex traffickers exploit human nature and create a false sense of security to keep women under their control. He also talks about his new book, Where Have All the Heroes Gone?, and its lessons for older men and younger generations alike as they try to break free from complacency and find a way to “finish strong” in life.Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. Talking with God on Aconcagua
Sean Knox, the co-owner and president of Columbus-based Knox Pest Control, has long had a passion for mountain climbing—one that recently took him to the peak of Aconcagua, the tallest mountain in the Western Hemisphere. For him, though, the climb was about more than just thrills and the once-in-a-lifetime view from 22,838 feet up; Sean found that the natural wonder of the mountain brought him closer to God and enriched his prayer life like never before. Sean talks with Nate Dewberry this week about the trip up the mountain as well as more down-to-earth topics, including keeping passions from turning into obsessions and countering the self-doubt that eats away at all of us.Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. Trading Idols for Ideals
Jake Kegg’s uncle lived a life beset by addiction and marked by tragedy, but through all those tribulations he trusted in—and was grateful for—God’s redemption. That inspired Jake to build a life centered around sharing God’s love with others, and today he and his wife are doing just that, leading small ministry groups with children, adults, and couples alike. This week Jake and Redeemed director Nate Dewberry discuss a variety of topics ranging from building healthy habits and finding one’s God-given purpose to overcoming disappointment and the self-doubt that, without us even realizing it, can draw us away from a deeper relationship with the Lord.Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. You Don’t Have to Do the Fighting on Your Own
JT Clark says he’s spent most of his life “searching for something.” Sometimes he tried to fill that void with athletics or his love of the outdoors; more often, he filled it with unhealthy things like drugs or sexual conquests. It wasn’t until three years ago, when he was invited to church by a pastor who knew about the sins in his past, that he realized God could fill that void better than anything. Through his work with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, he’s sharing the lessons he’s learned—and this week he talks with Nate Dewberry about them as well, from the realization that we can resist sin far better with God than we can on our own to the joy of serving God and trusting in His plan.Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. How to Have a Rite of Passage Weekend
If many men these days act like boys—fighting, racking up sexual conquests, obsessing over childish pursuits—author Steven Arms says it might be because nobody ever told them, “You’re a man now.” Steven, on the other hand, did hear that from his father and male relatives at the “rite of passage weekend” they put together for him when he turned 13. Now, through his book Milestone to Manhood and the accompanying website and podcast, Steven gives other men tips on how they can have these bonding weekends with their own sons. This week Steven talks with Redeemed founder Paul Amos about rites of passage and how men of all generations can benefit from them—and how such rites of passage can also be valuable for daughters, as well as boys growing up in homes without fathers.Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. And he was right—for the past five years, he’s been the lead pastor at Calvary Christian Church in Columbus, Georgia. Ricky talks with Nate Dewberry about the “beautiful burden” of leading a congregation and what he learned from his most challenging season as a pastor: leading his church through the COVID pandemic and the racial tensions that stemmed from the death of George Floyd in 2020. Being the ‘Very Best Version’ for Your Spouse
Most “high school sweethearts” break up and go their separate ways before high school is even over with. Chris and Carla Hines, though, have kept their relationship going for going on 36 years—nearly three decades of that as a married couple. It hasn’t always been easy, and both Chris and Carla admit they hadn’t prepared themselves to be the “very best version” of themselves for each other at the time they got married. But by re-centering their relationship with God as the highest priority, and learning to live in the moment, they’ve made their marriage last. Chris and Carla talk with Nate Dewberry this week about the common mistakes of young love, their new “season” as grandparents and empty-nesters, and their own ministry, Marriage in Focus.Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. Making a Military Marriage Work
Life in the military is never easy, but there are entirely new challenges when you have to balance your service obligations with your responsibilities as a spouse and parents. This week we bring you conversations with two couples—Jim and Tabitha Pooler and Russ and Cindy Leaphart—about some specific challenges they've faced and how they persevered. For the Leapharts, it was having to help their children adjust to frequent moves and "re-orienting" when Army work started cutting into family responsibilities; for the Poolers, it was coping with the trauma of multiple miscarriages while Tabitha and Jim were on opposite sides of the world. Through their stories you'll learn lessons on open and honest communication, the importance of thorough planning, and how to keep the stress of military life from overwhelming an otherwise happy marriage.Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. Herman Ivey is overseeing a growing and important ministry in Columbus, Georgia. But he’s also dealt with his share of struggle and disappointment, from divorce to homelessness. This week Herman talks with Redeemed director Nate Dewberry about the ups and downs of his life and what he’s learned from it all—particularly the need to be obedient to God, and to not talk so much that you can’t hear what God is saying back. God’s Still Working On Me
The past few years have been eventful ones, to say the least, for Sammy Cosa. Right before the COVID pandemic hit, he left a business partnership that had turned into an “unethical” environment and moved with his wife and three children to Idaho. Two years later, he and his wife came close to losing their fourth child. Through it all, though, he says he’s been reminded of the incredible strength and reassurance God has to offer all of us. You Can’t Heal from What You Keep Hidden
Shortly before Christmas, you heard a special holiday message from Jordan Thome, a West Point grad who works with the men’s ministry at his church in Cincinnati. In this week’s podcast, Nate Dewberry circles back with Jordan to talk about his own faith upbringing and the times he fell short of truly living for God, as well as his current life and how he lives out his faith as a husband, father, and employee. Jordan also discusses his work with his church’s men’s ministry and the biggest problem he sees there—isolation. When men don’t have an outlet for deep conversations about their struggles or anxieties, he says, they can’t get free of them. It’s time for men to step up and get involved, both in their churches and in the lives of friends who need support and guidance.Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. God Knows Your Sin and Calls You By Your Name
Veterans transitioning out of lengthy military careers find themselves particularly vulnerable to a variety of life struggles, including depression, addiction, and suicide. Eric Brew knows this firsthand—when his 25-year military career ended right as he was going through a second divorce, he came close to taking his own life. But with God’s help, he found his way back from the abyss, and today, as the Georgia head of the Warriors Set Free ministry, he’s helping other struggling vets do the same. This week Eric has a frank and enlightening conversation about his own struggles and how they guide his ministry work, as well as the challenges of parenthood, what he’s learned from his military service, and the need to understand the “voice and character” of the Lord.Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. What ‘The Light of the World’ Means for Us
With Christmas almost upon us, this week The Redeemed turns its podcast over to Army veteran and ministry leader Jordan Thome, who offers his thoughts on Jesus’s statement “I am the light of the world” and what it means for us. Jesus, he says, is the fulfillment of prophecies and covenants made long before He came to earth. Reflecting more deeply on those promises kept, and increasing our appreciation for those gifts, will help us to get in the right frame of mind this Christmas season and become more committed to sharing God’s light throughout the year.Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. The Best Gift of All
It’s the season of gift-giving, and in this week’s podcast Ricky Smith, lead pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Columbus, Georgia, talks with Nate Dewberry about the most important gift any of us have ever received: God’s love, expressed through His son Jesus. Many times we might not consider ourselves worthy of that gift; other times we might not think about it at all. But God sending His son to die for us is a clear indicator both of how much He loves us, and of how much He’s willing to forgive.Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. You Don’t Have to Be Everything to Everybody
Jeremy Simmons thought he had everything—he had a fast-paced career, he was “planting” a new church, he had a successful wife and two beautiful daughters. But when his marriage fell apart, he says he felt “like I was watching the towers of my life fall down around me.” Moving back in with his parents and starting over was a humbling experience, but when he stopped trying to control everything and just let God carry him, Jeremy saw a glimmer of hope. Now remarried with a big blended family and working an exciting career in the healthcare industry, Jeremy has learned a lot from his experience—and in this week’s podcast with Nate Dewberry, he’s eager to share it with our listeners.Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. From Addict to Entrepreneur: Lessons in Stewardship
Rock Sandretto is an entrepreneur who, along with his beautiful wife and four children, manages a variety of successful business ventures in the Birmingham area. But if you told him about all that 15 years ago—when he was struggling to kick a drug addiction and his own parole officer told him he probably wasn’t going to be able to do it—he might not have believed you. The road to redemption was a long one that required discipline and the will to do difficult things, and in this week’s podcast Rock talks with The Redeemed’s Nate Dewberry about the many important lessons he learned along the way.Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. The Redeemed Tell Their Stories
This week we shift from our usual podcast format to three short segments with men for whom The Redeemed has made a real-life impact. You’ll meet Ron, who’s been involved with his church but was seeking a deeper connection with God; Vincent, who originally attended the Restored conference just to meet Tim Tebow but ended up finding something greater; and Noel, who’s taking what he’s gained from The Redeemed’s small groups and carrying it to others. We hope their conversations with Redeemed director Nate Dewberry will inspire you with a sense of purpose and gratitude for God’s many gifts as we head into the heart of the holiday season.Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles.
