The Remote Work Retirement Show

The Remote Work Retirement show helps semi-retirees, working retirees, and people leaving the traditional workforce, bridge the gap between their working years and retirement. Remote work is a solution to help folks get the income they need to enjoy a flexible lifestyle and have peace of mind that they won't run out of money.

Tracks

Due to having a cold and somewhat scratchy voice, Camille is going to do something a little different with today's episode. She doesn't know if she's ever done this on the show but feels like this may make it a little easier to listen to her. And that is she is going to read an article that she came across on MarketWatch. Not everyone has access to MarketWatch, but Camille is a subscriber because she thinks they put out some really great content, some informative articles, and she wants to share one of those with you today. She is going to read the article and if she read the whole thing, it would take about eight minutes. So, she may skip some parts. But she wants to actually read you the article so that you get all of the information. And then at the end, she will give you her reactions to the article and what she thinks. Now the full title is called:  "Will Trump's Tough Stance on Remote Work Drag Everyone Else Back to the Office?" And then it says, "Don't Bet on It."  She also wants you to know that she does not intend to get political in this episode. So, what she is really wanting to do is just talk about what's happening at the federal level and how she thinks that may impact what we're going to see related to remote work. But rather than just tell her opinion, she'd like for you to hear the article so that you can form your own opinion and see if you agree or disagree. This article was published on January 25th, 2025. So at the time of this recording, that's about two days ago and it was written by Andrew Kasztner. Camille doesn't actually know who Andrew Kesner is and she could research him. But instead, she is going to trust that this person knows what they're talking about. So, join her now as she reads this very interesting article. Click here to read the show notes for this episode:https://www.camilleattell.com/blog/105You can also take her FREE training at:www.camilleattell.com/remote-trainingIf you want to learn more about how to leverage your digital products or service visit:www.camilleattell.com/remoteworkschool Connect with Camille on Instagram: @camille.attellConnect with Camille on Linkedin: Camille Attell, MARead more about the RV and Remote Work Lifestyle at https://www.morethanawheelin.com/

Welcome back to the show and thank you for listening! Thank you for listening. You know, I haven't really thanked people for listening in a long time. It's probably because I haven't been recording a lot of podcasts. And I just assume that people aren't listening, but I want to thank you for showing up today.   Today, I felt compelled to address a topic that might resonate with many of you—fears that job seekers over 50 often share with me. While I typically focus on offering solutions, this episode is more about acknowledging and exploring those fears to help you feel less alone. Sometimes, simply hearing that others share your concerns can be more valuable than receiving advice. But, since I always like to give solutions, I’ll certainly offer some ideas and solutions. But in a way, I almost feel like it's more important for you to hear the fears and concerns that people have, because I think you may be feeling some of these same fears and concerns. I want to boil them down to the ones that are most prevalent. The ones I hear about the most. So, number one will be age. I mean, that's kind of an obvious one, but number two will be gap in employment that comes up a lot. Number three would be outdated skills. Number four kind of the opposite. And that would be people who feel overqualified when all they really want is kind of an easier job. And then the last one would be having to take a pay cut or having their pay impacted in some wayMaybe you related to some of these, maybe you have your own. And if you do go ahead and just email us. There's a link here in the show notes.hello@camilleattell.comAnd you can just put in the title, My Fear. How about that? You can let us know what your fear is, and we'll address it; we'll talk about it. If it's similar to these or different or something specific, let us know. We're always really curious and we always have some really helpful tips and strategies and resources for you. In episode 103, Camille breaks down her time in North Carolina and her volunteer work with the organization "All Hands and All Hearts" in the recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene that she started back in October. Six states were hit by this hurricane, with North Carolina being one of, if not the, hardest hit. Unexpectedly hard hit. If you are a new listener to Camille’s podcasts, this is a big story, and you may want to start at the beginning with episodes 101 and 102 for more background and what led Camille to wanting to do this. If you are a returning guest, while it has taken a little longer for this episode to happen, you will not be disappointed by the wait. It’s exciting, emotional, informative, and so relatable. This is a mostly freeform episode, and Camille will be sharing her most valuable insights, key points, tips, resources, experiences, and how remote work fits in. During this time, she got sick, did a lot of physical labor, met great people, formed friendships, and she even has a surprise to reveal. So, kick back, relax, and listen to what turned out to be a lifechanging experience for our Camille Attell. Here is Camille's direct link for All Hands and All Hearts, the organization she will be working with, and she talks about in this episode. In this episode, Camille continues her volunteer work with All Hands and Hearts, helping with the disaster relief following hurricane Helene in North and South Carolina. This week has been eventful, and she eager to share her experiences, even if it leans a bit toward self-reflection. There is value in her insights despite the personal nature of her reflections. Camille's intent is to balance sharing her journey with providing you something meaningful to take away, making this more than just a monologue. She wants to capture the essence of this week, not only for herself but also for anyone tuning in.Currently, she is on the road, volunteering in North Carolina, having just come from South Carolina. Due to her travel circumstances, the audio quality may not match what you're used to, as she is recording with basic headphones instead of her usual microphone setup. In this episode, Camille will cover four main topics, with a focus on All Hands and Hearts and the unique experience of volunteering remotely. First, she'll explain what the organization does, which is to provide both immediate relief and long-term rebuilding for communities affected by natural disasters. Founded in 2005, they mobilize volunteers from around the world, even those with no prior construction experience, to assist in disaster-stricken areas, including locations like the Caribbean, Nepal, and the U.S. Their response is swift; in North Carolina, they set up operations just three days after Hurricane Helene.Next, she will highlight the collaborative approach of All Hands and Hearts, which partners with other organizations and governmental bodies like FEMA. This teamwork enhances the effectiveness of their relief efforts, ensuring that they can mobilize resources and support as needed. Each project site is staffed with experts who guide and train volunteers on the necessary tasks, from safety precautions to using tools properly. This mentorship is crucial for those learning on the job, and it demonstrates the importance of having experienced leaders available.Lastly, she will connect her volunteering experience to the broader theme of working remotely. While many people focus on specific technical skills when seeking employment, the willingness to learn and adaptability are equally valuable. Just as All Hands and Hearts prioritizes trainable individuals, employers in any field often seek candidates with strong soft skills and a coachable mindset. So, don’t underestimate your potential; you likely possess transferable skills that can be developed further, whether in volunteer work or a remote job. Here is Camille's direct link for All Hands and All Hearts, the organization she will be working with, and she talks about in this episode. In this episode. Camille introduces us to her friend, Bill Trinkle, in an interview about her upcoming volunteer efforts to assist with the Helene disaster recovery in the Ashville, North Carolins area, and how their mutual ties to that community has brought them together for a few days. Bill and his wife, Porter, have hosted Camille for a few days so she can gather the rest of the supplies needed and have a day or two to get organized and prepare for her 6-week commitment to the cause. Since they are only a few hours from the ground site, they will be transporting Camille and her belongings to the base camp. They will talk RVing and remote work, complete with an amusing story, and the more serious ramifications of the disastrous conditions Helene left in her wake. And, as in last week’s episode, Camille will also provide her direct link for donations to All Hands and Hearts, the organization with which Camille is volunteering. Here is Camille's direct link for All Hands and All Hearts, the organization she will be working with, and she talks about in this episode. In episode 98, we pick up with Part 3 of Road Trip with Me: Solar Eclipse. If you've been listening to the whole series since part one, Camille has talked about the journey of going out to Paris, Texas, which is where she and her husband were going to view the solar eclipse. In part two, she talked about getting to Paris and gearing up for the event.Today Camille is finally going to talk about the actual solar eclipse. So, this was a pretty big buildup, sort of like a Netflix release where there's all this hype and marketing and you're just waiting for the actual event itself. It wasn’t planned that way, that's just how it turned out. It is a bit of storytelling, and it is a departure from her show norm, which is pretty much practical tips, information and resources about remote work. However, a number of people have told her that they really do enjoy it when she does a little bit of storytelling and goes off the beaten path because they just like to follow along with the journey. So, let’s join her for this next installment …You're listening to the remote work retirement show. In episode 94, I share with you why I love finding side gigs on Craigslist. And I tell you about a new one. I just landed. You're listening to the remote work retirement show. I'm your host, Camille Attell. And this is the only show that helps semi retirees figure out the remote work options.  I believe the remote work is the new retirement plan and that many retirees have both the ability and desire to work how they want so they can live how they want. Let's dig into today's episode.... Hello, and thank you for joining me today. It's always a pleasure to have you back. Or, if it's your first time, thank you so much for listening. Today, I'm going to do something a little bit different. I want to share with you a personal story because I think it would be interesting and maybe a little bit instructive. Now the story specifically will be about how I found a side gig on Craigslist. It's not the only time I've done this. So, I'll tell you about the first time I did it. And I'll also tell you about how I did this again just a few weeks ago. But before I do that, I want to share another story with you not totally related to today's episode. But it's really part of a broader philosophy related to things that I talk about a lot on this show, and that is to always remember that everything you do, most everything you do has a value. Meaning you might be doing something as simple as cleaning your house. For me, that's not simple at all. So, who knows, maybe for you, you love it. I know some people listening hate doing it. But that task has value inside of that task. There are skills that you would need to possess to do it. And so, the reason I'm telling you this is I was on a walk this morning. I'm trying to get out more for walks, trying to do the healthy thing. Right. And on my walk today, I saw a gentleman. He appears to be retired. I don't know, but this wasn't a Monday at around 10 30, so I don't know. Maybe someone could think I'm retired. Because I took a walk at 10 30, which is not true. I'm just a remote worker and I can set my own schedule. So I shouldn't make assumptions. However, this man as planting flowers and putting in some plants in his lawn outside of his house. And it looked so beautiful. I loved what he was choosing. He had some succulents; he had some flowers. Names of which I couldn't tell you. I saw him with his soil, and he was patting it all down. And I, you know, as I walked by him, I said, wow, that is just so beautiful. To which he replied: oh yeah. I just have a lot of time on my hands. I should probably get better hobbies.  And I just can't even with a comment like that. If you've been listening to the show or me for any length of time, you know, that I'm a huge advocate for people to see their own talent, to really recognize, respect and honor their own skills. And so, when that man responded to me like that, maybe he was being funny., maybe he was being humble. But I heard something else. I heard self-judgment.  And I stopped and I turned around and I looked at him. And I said, no, you don't need better hobbies. This is exactly what you're meant to do, and you're obviously really good at it. And then he protested even more …..If you want to learn more about how to leverage your digital products or service visit: www.camilleattell.com/remoteworkschoolYou can also take her FREE training at:www.camilleattell.com/remote-training If you have suggestions for the show, you can contact Camille via Instagram: @camille.attell  **DISCLAIMER: This podcast is not a substitute for professional consultation. She mentioned the 2 big tools, ChatGPT and Gemini, formerly Bard, that people are using for all kinds of things including resume writing. In today’s episode she talks about a new AI tool called AI Apply, that she really, really likes and feels is worth discussing. She came across it in one of the updates of an AI network /newsletters she subscribes to for information on AI tools that hit the market daily.  Something about this one caught her eye because it feels very much like the way she trains resume writing in her one-line coaching program, Remote Work School. She is going to discuss how this tool seems to understand the pitfalls of resume writing and how to swim the quicksand of algorithms, robots, key words, and little tricks of the trade to get your resume through the virtual door. In episode 91 Camille explores how to use artificial intelligence to identify your top skills.  You're listening to the remote work retirement show. I'm your host, Camille Attell. And this is the only show that helps semi retirees figure out their remote work options.  I believe that remote work is the new retirement plan and that many retirees have both the ability and desire to work how they want so they can live how they want. Let's dig into today's episode.Welcome back to the Remote Work Retirement Show. if this is your first time listening, no worries. There will be lots of really good information in this episode for you, even if you're just starting. However, if you do want to go back and catch a couple of episodes before this, it might help because Camille does set the tone for the topics she is covering this month. In the previous episodes she talked about what's happening in the job market and what you can expect, how we're still seeing a pretty strong job market, and how there are new opportunities being created. Then she talked about the reality of using AI to write your resume. There was an article that she explored, that link in last week's episode, Episode 90, that talked about how not only is it a good idea to use AI for your resume, but HR managers and those who hire employees actually prefer it. She talked about why that is in last week's episode. So, she is not going to cover it all again. Camille also left off in that episode talking about a couple of tools that she wanted to explore and then bring to you in today's episode, as well as next week's episode. So today Camille is actually going to talk about how to use AI to unlock your skills to really identify the top skills that you have so that you can display those skills on your resume, on LinkedIn, maybe in a cover letter, and certainly when you're having an interview. The idea is that you can very quickly and very easily talk about your top 5 to 10 skills and that you really understand how to swap out your skills when needed for different job types. I talk in Remote Work School, that's my coaching program, a lot to the members there about how it's really important that you're very nimble with your resume, with your skills, LinkedIn, and just your job searching in general. One of the ways to be nimble. Is to have a nice set of skills that you can always pull from and use for different job types.Join Camille now as she further explores AI and its applications for you.If you want to learn more about how to leverage your digital products or service visit:www.camilleattell.com/remoteworkschoolYou can also take her FREE training at:www.camilleattell.com/remote-trainingIf you have suggestions for the show, you can contact Camille via Instagram: @camille.attell **DISCLAIMER: This podcast is not a substitute for professional consultation. If you haven’t listened to those episodes, you really should. I take you along with me in a rented van to a huge RV event in which I share my adventures live from the road. Today’s episode will also inform about AI not only as it relates to the music industry but every part of remote work.If you want to learn more about how to leverage your digital products or service visit:www.camilleattell.com/remoteworkschoolYou can also take her FREE training at:www.camilleattell.com/remote-trainingIf you have suggestions for the show, you can contact Camille via Instagram: @camille.attell **DISCLAIMER: This podcast is not a substitute for professional consultation. Let's dig into today's episode....   Well, welcome and specifically, welcome to my van. I'm inside of a rented travel van, a cargo van, if you will. I want to start the episode by telling you my sound today might be different than it usually is because I'm actually traveling with just a headset and not my high-quality microphone. I did that so that I could travel light. Why don't I back up and give you a little more context.  In episode 85, I talked about how I would be traveling and recording this podcast while on the road. And therefore, you know, we've got maybe some sound issues. You might hear some weird scratching noises; I think that's my shirt.  And I'm also in a parking lot. I should add I'm outside of a grocery store. It’s called Bashes.  So, have fun with me while I bring you along with me as I record this episode on the road from my van.
