The Other Way

Hello and welcome to The Other Way, a wellness podcast for women exploring uncommon, unconventional, or alternative approaches to entrepreneurship, spirituality, and health. I’m your host, Kasia; I’m the founder of In Flow, a women's wellness brand on a mission to help women reconnect to their bodies and intuition through the wisdom of their cycle. I'm also on a mission to harmonize “being” with “doing” and discover my most authentic and aligned self. In my experience, stepping into that kind of alignment often requires us to take the less traveled path. On this podcast, I explore those paths. Here, you can expect real, raw conversations with founders, researchers, trailblazers, experts in medicine, spiritual teachers, and all-around inspiring humans on the journey of doing things our way. It may not be “the way,” but it is the other way. So, if you’re like us and feel called to listen to that deeper voice - you’re in the right place. Welcome.

Welcome back to The Other Way! I'm Kasia, your host, and I'm thrilled to reconnect with you all after our season break. As many of you know, I wrapped up last season during a challenging time. My mom was diagnosed with cancer just days before our last episode, and I've been in NYC since mid-July, supporting her, navigating this uncertainty, and celebrating the moments that matter—like my brother’s beautiful wedding, which we brought to New York so my mom could be a part of it.While I have many personal updates to share in a solo episode soon, we’re celebrating the start of a new season today. We’re transitioning into fall, or as Chinese Medicine calls it, “Late Summer.” This Earth element season is a time of transition, marking the shift from the active Yang energy of spring and summer to the Yin introspection of fall and winter. I can feel the change in the air here in NYC, with cooler mornings and the subtle natural shift. We’re only here until Sunday before returning to California, so I’m soaking up every moment with family and the last hints of East Coast summer. In this new season, we’re diving deep into the paths less traveled, all through a feminine lens. We’ll explore themes that resonate with my life journey—women’s health, fertility, career, spirituality, and more. This year has brought about significant shifts for me, both personally and professionally, and I’m leaning into surrender and presence in ways I never imagined. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the themes we’ll be exploring this season:Awakening Fertility: We’ll dive into preconception, conception, and beyond, with insights on how to optimize our bodies, minds, and spirits. Expect conversations with experts in Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and herbalism.Cultivating Creative Fertility: Exploring the powerful link between our wombs and creative potential.Modern Spirituality: Applying Zen lessons to our contemporary lives, especially in balancing aspiration and contentment for the ambitious among us.Transitions: Finding peace through life’s stages, from birth and death to identity shifts.Anxiety, Imposter Syndrome, and Creativity: Navigating these common challenges with grace and self-compassion.Releasing Addictions: Tackling our dependencies on tech, stimulation, shopping, and even our own bad habits. And that’s just the beginning! We have an incredible lineup of guests whose wisdom I can’t wait to share.Thank you so much for tuning in and being a part of this beautiful community. I’m beyond excited to embark on this journey with you in the Fall 2024 season of The Other Way. Hi everyone, welcome back to the show. Today’s episode is a season wrap-up and life update. It isn’t something I had been expecting to share, but it’s a profoundly significant update and season of life for me. My initial plans were to share a bit about my recent reiki training in Ojai, a bit about my trip to Spirit Weavers in June, and chat about some business items that have come up along with my Zen practice but life has a funny way of redirecting things. My mom was diagnosed with cancer and frankly, a lot has changed in the last two weeks. This experience has been painful and also in the strangest ways, openhearted and beautiful. I would never have wished for this experience, but I accept it and have found something to be grateful for throughout it. I deeply credit my Zen and mindfulness practice for this open-hearted perspective. Sending out love to those who need it - and thanking every one of you for tuning into this season of the other way. Join us in the fall for more conversations about paths less traveled, spirituality, wellness, women’s health, and more. XX-KasiaSupport the showTo connect with Kasia Join our monthly newsletter www.inflowplanner.com (use code "podcast10" for 10% off) @The_Other_Way_Podcast @InFlowPlanner Submit topic/theme/speaker requests

Hi everyone! Today I'm speaking with Joe Hollier, Co-Founder of Light -> a minimalistic, non-addictive smartphone alternative. For those of you who have known me for a while I've been on a long-time mission to become more intention with the information I'm taking in and to cultivate more focus and flow into my day. Partner that with my long-time meditation practice and over the past few years it has become obvious to me that my phone... as convenient as it is... is definitely part of a larger problem. This year I "upgraded" to a Lightphone and started to set more serious boundaries with my phone. I noticed that on retreats/vacations/weekends when I don't have a traditional smartphone on me I feel more focused, intentional, and peaceful. On days when I am on my phone a lot I feel overwhelmed, more anxious, and "rushing" non-stop. I also found it more difficult to participate in things I loved: reading, learning, and tapping into that state of "deep focus".Well, it turns out I'm not alone. According to recent research: Checking phones has become so prevalent that more than 40 percent of consumers said they look at the devices within five minutes of waking up, according to a 2016 survey by Deloitte. Fifty percent said they check them in the middle of the night. “The brain starts learning how to switch rapidly from one task to another to another,” says William Klemm, senior professor of neuroscience at Texas A&M University and author of Teach Your Kids How to Learn. “It becomes a habit. But this habit conflicts with focused attentiveness.” Y'all, IDK about you but I don't feel good feeling so distracted - I want more peace and a sense of calm groundedness in my day-to-day. Enter Light - and this conversation.  What we talk about: Joe and Kaiwei's journey of creating a "light" phone in the era of "more is more" (more apps, more features, more addiction)What it was like building towards a very polarizing vision: the challenge of fundraising in an era where smartphones were all the rage & VC's were looking for "hockey stick" growthThe power of community: bringing customers along the journey of building a complex, multi-year hardware tech product (How crowdfunding made all the difference)The research behind going light + the benefits seen from case studies like schools that went 100% light phone and the benefits seen from customersWhat "actually" makes smartphones addictive? Why "screentime" often isn't enoughJoe's own journey of cultivating an "intentional" life (as an artist and multidisciplinary designer)What Joe predicts the future of social might look like AND tech companies he's loving these days+ so much more!About Joe:I'm a multi-disciplinary artist and entrepreneur. I studied design at the School of Visual Arts and graduated as the valedictorian. I started a design studio & skateboard company called Five on That, working as an animator, film maker, and illustrator mostly. I was also selling and exhibiting my painting and collage work. The Smithsonian commissioned a short film called "Diary". Other clients include Nike, CNN, the Lincoln Center, Debbie Millman, Office of Paul Sahre and Sagmeister & Walsh. Ever felt like you're constantly running on a treadmill of productivity, yet somehow you're still not getting anywhere? I can definitely relate. As a self-proclaimed Type A - I often found myself in hyperdoing mode (wholly disconnected from my body and any part of my feminine, flowy being). What would this lead to? Burn out, disatisfaction,   and questioning the end I was running towards! Today's episode is a deep dive into this theme as we speak with Amy Natalie; feminine embodiment guide, author, and coach. We delve into Amy's profound shift from a life stifled by anxiety to one flourishing in stability and intuitive living. As she recounts her steps, Amy becomes a beacon for the kind of intentional living that can lead to personal growth and fulfillment, a journey we at Inflow hold close to our hearts.Striking a balance between the go-getter drive and the intuitive whisper is a dance many of us are still learning. Our discussion turns to the art of embodiment, where as a women's empowerment coach, I emphasize the value of connecting deeply with our bodies as the vessel for our emotions, intuition, and pleasure. We share personal narratives that challenge the 'good girl' persona and societal norms, urging listeners to realign their lives with their soul's essence. The transformation is palpable as we discuss shifting from living 'neck-up' to embracing a life sprouting from authenticity and joy, a path that leads to personal growth and a healthier society. This episode is a treasure trove for those seeking harmony in their personal and professional spheres. Amy's battle with endometriosis, which led to the creation of Inflow, exemplifies the perfect marriage of structure and flow, and it's a resource you won't want to miss. We offer you tangible steps to start practicing embodiment and give a glimpse into resources for those ready to journey deeper into this transformative work. If you're ready for a significant change or yearning for balance, this conversation is an open invitation to nurture a connection with your inner self and step into a more empowered, integrated life. To connect with Amy: IG: amynatalieco amynatalieco.com Free embodiment class  🎉Support the showTo connect with KasiaJoin our monthly newsletterwww.inflowplanner.com (use code "podcast10" for 10% off)@The_Other_Way_Podcast@InFlowPlannerSubmit topic/theme/speaker requests Support the showTo connect with Kasia Join our monthly newsletter www.inflowplanner.com (use code "podcast10" for 10% off) @The_Other_Way_Podcast @InFlowPlanner Submit topic/theme/speaker requests

"Non-Toxic Living" – when you hear it, what do you think of? Organic food, green juice, maybe drinking filtered water? (Teaser: The health of that water may actually depend on more than its source – it could also be influenced by the container it comes in!)Today, we're delving into environmental toxins and toxicants: what are they, where are they hidden (cookware, makeup, even yoga pants?), and how do they impact your hormones, fertility, overall health – and even the health of future generations?I have the privilege of speaking with Jenna Hua, a registered dietitian, environmental health scientist, and Founder & CEO of Million Marker. Jenna is a staunch advocate for understanding how our daily consumption habits affect our well-being. Jenna's journey, from studying food environments in China to founding a health tech startup, is as inspiring as it is informative. Our discussion navigates the murky waters of toxins, often concealed in products we use every day, and their significant impact on health and fertility. Jenna sheds light on both persistent and transient toxins, explaining their intricate effects on our bodies. She also opens up about her personal fertility struggles and how they led her to establish Million Marker, underscoring the heart-wrenching reality that these toxins can harm unborn children and echo through generations. Jenna's insights into the regulatory measures taken by the government to manage these toxins are as illuminating as they are thought-provoking.But it's not all gloom and doom. Jenna equips us with practical advice on detoxing from toxins and making lifestyle changes that can protect our health. From the importance of choosing organic products and reducing plastic use to selecting the right cookware, Jenna provides actionable insights for a healthier life. Tune in for an eye-opening exploration into the world of toxins, their impact, and the steps we can take to safeguard our health. Uncover the dangers lurking in your non-stick pans, the fragrances you love, and even your everyday receipts. This episode is a must-listen for anyone looking to take control of their health.Jenna's Bio:Dr. Jenna Hua, an environmental health scientist and dietitian by training, is passionate about the environment, public health, and everything food. Jenna holds a BS in Nutrition and an MPH and PhD in Environmental Health Sciences from UC Berkeley, and completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford Medicine.Frustrated by the lack of data regarding how harmful chemicals (like BPA, phthalates, and parabens) from plastics and everyday products affect our health and clinical outcomes, and the absence of a personalized approach to mitigate harmful chemical exposures, Jenna set out on a mission to change this. She founded Million Marker, a health-tech startup dedicated to empowering everyone with the data and tools to determine how the products they use, the food they eat, and the water they drink negatively or positively influence their health.
