Welcome to the App Performance Café, a podcast focused on mobile app performance. This week we had the pleasure to have as a guest Matthew MacLennan. Matt is the Director of Product Management at Bongo, the leading OTT video service in Bangladesh. Bangladesh's complex networking ecosystem presents quite a few challenges when it comes to delivering a good user experience, in particular for video streaming applications. And when you consider that the vast majority of the users resort to 3G or 4G connections to get the content, the picture gets even more challenging. Matt will guide us through these challenges and how Bongo is tackling them, in particular how one can handle low-end android devices that do not support the latest video codecs. One thing that surprised us is the fact that Bongo resorts to P2P technology to manage the large volume of traffic that stems from main lifestreaming events. And this P2P offloading technique seems to become a trend these days. We had a very insightful conversation with Matt and we hope you do enjoy this episode. Welcome to the App Performance Café, a podcast focused on mobile app performance. This week we had the pleasure to have as a guest Thomas Harman, Engineering Manager at Pinterest. Tom is responsible for ensuring that Pinterest performs always at the top of the industry. Tom shares with us why and how one must ensure that everyone in the company is on the same page regarding performance. Tom also shares advice on how can we detect changes in performance, in particular, what can be detected pre-release, and, more challenging, what cannot. This also correlates a lot with how should we measure and analyze performance. A long one, we know, but we hope you do enjoy the episode. Visit https://www.codavel.com/podcast where you can find more details about the topics each guest brings to the show.

This week we welcomed Victor Garcia, co-founder of YBVR, a provider of solutions for immersive experiences in particular for sports events. Immersive video delivery is very challenging, so a lot of bandwidth is required to reach the end-user, in particular over wireless links since the delay threshold users are willing to tolerate is very low. Victor will guide us through how these demands translate into big technical challenges and share valuable insights on how to tackle them. Victor also shares why he believes 5G is not the free ticket for bandwith utilization that we keep hearing about everywhere. In the process, Victor also delves into how hard it is to ensure a consistent experience over the always unpredictable wireless links, and he even talks about Codavel - but that’s totally his fault, not ours (sorry for that). Jump into https://www.codavel.com/podcast to learn more about app performance and get more details about the topics each guest brings to the show.

Hi, I'm Rui and welcome to the App Performance Cafe, a podcast focused on mobile app performance. Today I have the pleasure of having as a guest Michael Rebello from Lyft. Michael is a Staff Engineer, and we share a big passion for network optimization, so, as you can imagine, it took some effort to keep this episode not too long. Michael will guide us through the network optimization he has been working on at Lyft. We touch on a few approaches, but as highlights, I would pick the core concepts of abstracting networking from the application layer and product engineers through things like envoy mobile and deferral requests. The last one is quite interesting as it ensures that the Lyft app is resilient even in the case of no internet connectivity. And how about chaos testing with real users? Stay tuned to listen to it all!I hope you enjoy it. I certainly did! Don't forget to follow us on the usual podcast platforms, and please visit performancecafe.codavel.com.

Hi, I'm Rui, and welcome to the App Performance Cafe, a podcast focused on mobile app performance. Today I have the pleasure of having as a guest my friend Antonio Pellegrino, CEO and Co-Founder at Mutable. Pelle will share with us his disruptive vision on the cloud infrastructure ecosystem, the reason why are we still so dependent on hyperscaler providers of cloud infrastructure, and why is that not enough. In particular, and related to Mutable's mission, Pelle shares how can we use existing infrastructure like underutilized server operators, and increase the range of cloud infrastructure we have access to, so we can build applications and provide very low latency and very high bandwidth, which is very important for applications like cloud gaming, AR, VR, and all those kind of scenarios where both latency and bandwidth are very critical. I hope you enjoy it. I certainly did! Don't forget to follow us on the usual podcast platforms, and please visit performancecafe.codavel.com.

Hi, I'm Rui, and welcome to the App Performance Cafe, a podcast focused on mobile app performance. Today's guest is Petr Zapletal from Disney Streaming Services. Petr is a Senior Engineer at Disney, and his main focus is to ensure that Disney is capable of meeting the very high expectations of hundreds of millions of users. As you can imagine, this is very challenging because Disney streaming applications are very traffic-intensive, and they need to efficiently cope with very large traffic picks.Petr will be sharing his experience around those topics as well as the relevance of using synthetic data to test deployments before going live to ensure everything it's ready for what's coming. Stay tuned. I hope you enjoy the episode! Don't forget to follow us on the usual podcast platforms, and please visit performancecafe.codavel.com.

Emil will be sharing with us today his experience with app performance, particularly on the topics of optimizing image and video sizes in such a way that you can ensure your mobile app loads this type of content way much faster, leading to a better user experience. Emil will also share with us what he has seen in the market regarding the impact of such optimizations and KPIs like user conversion, retention, and overall engagement with the application. I hope you enjoy it. This week we had the pleasure of having Senthil Padmanabhan, VP and Technical Fellow at eBay, where he leads the user experience and developer activity engineering. In this episode, Senthil shares with us why he started "Speed" and its goal of significantly improving the performance of eBay's, both mobile web and native applications. Senthil will also share some lessons about the work they are doing at eBay, what metrics should we consider as more important when the goal is to improve our app performance, and then takes us through a journey of tons of minor optimizations that, when put together, can have very significant results on performance and overall user experience. I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as we did!
