Tracks

Hello, and welcome to A Murderess Affair. My name is Gabrielle and this is the podcast where I talk about women in history known for mayhem and murder. This week I was inspired by the Netflix documentary Lover, Stalker, Killer and immediately fell down the rabbit hole of this case. If you know this story, then you know who our woman of the week is, but for those of you guys who don’t-the best way I can retell this is following a similar format along what they did with Lover Stalker Killer because the reality of this actually happening is actually stranger than fiction       Helpful Links:  https://tinyurl.com/2s3j4kum https://tinyurl.com/2m8v7zbp https://tinyurl.com/4zjb5hwa https://farverscholarship.org/

Today we're talking about Manuela Sáenz, a political activist who helped to lead Simón Bolivar's vision of a Gran Columbia. She was notable for stopping multiple assassination attempts against him, becoming a spymaster of information, and also carrying a mustache around of her dead enemy?    Sources:  https://worldhistoryconnected.press.uillinois.edu/7.1/foote.html https://www.britannica.com/biography/Manuela-Saenz https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manuela_S%C3%A1enz https://www.rejectedprincesses.com/princesses/manuela-saenz

Alright everyone, we're talking about Gypsy Rose Blanchard today. I know, she's been dominating news cycles since she was released, but I couldn't not talk about her! Also I'm sorry about the terrible audio quality in the beginning, literally took me forever to get it to be semi-worth listening. If it's too much skip to like around 3 mins and it should get better from there!    Let me know what you think of this episode! You can find me at frumiousreads on twitter, tumblr, facebook, instagram, basically any and all social media!    EDIT: 2/6/24 OH MY GOD THE STUPID AUDIO FILE DIDN'T UPLOAD i am screaming. here is the audio. i apologize everyone.

This past Friday was also National Haunted House day, which worked out perfectly as it also inspired our latest episode. Now, this is one that is actually local to where I am in Arizona, and I heard about it from a friend and knew immediately that this is something I needed to talk about. So, guys, gals, and nonbinary pals, let’s talk about the Chandler, AZ House of Horrors, aka April McLaughlin

The first! Ever! Live! Episode!  Thank you so much to everyone who came out and made Scaredycon so much fun to be at, a million thanks to Taproom-120 for hosting, ScaredyCast and everyone else for putting this together. I had a great time being part of it and 100000% can't wait for the next one.  In this episode we talk about women from horror movies who's stories were inspired by real life events. First off is the movie The Orphan, and her real life counterpart Barbara Skrlova  (have you guys heard about this one? A lot of people know it’s based on a real story but don’t know the story itself so I thought this would be an interesting one to do.) Then, leaning into the more spooky things, we’ve got Veronica a 2017 supernatural horror film loosely based on the 1991 Vallecas case when Estafania Gutierrez Lazaro mysteriously died after using a ouija board.  Let's get spooky.

Hello and welcome to A Murderess Affair, the podcast about women in history known for mayhem and murder. This week, we’re talking about a woman who recently made the news and then also a woman who caused a lot of mystery and chaos to many investigators-The Phantom of Heilbronn. There’s actually a little bit of a theme, without giving too much away.   Listen to the podcast here:  Libsyn Apple Follow me on social media:  Instagram TikTok: Twitter:

Today we’re talking about not one, but two different women. Yes, it is a double episode today, of sorts. And the reason is because I went down a rabbit hole, as I tend to do, and I was originally going to just talk about one woman this happened to, but apparently it has happened to at least two within the past year.  Now, there’s a website, which I’m not going to name directly but I promise it exists, that falsely advertises hitmen for hire. Something that started as a joke according to the “About” section, and yet has now been used multiple times to find people who actually want to hire someone to murder others. The website reports these claims to police, and it leads to them catching the would-be murderer. It’s all very Tiger King of them.

Hello and welcome to A Murderess Affair, my name is Gabrielle and this is the podcast where we talk about women in history known for mayhem and murder. We’re continuing a theme of sorts, by talking about a woman who was mentioned last week as the arch-enemy of Kate Leigh. Any guesses?  Tilly Devine, that’s who. Born Matilda Mary Twiss in September 1900, she was involved in a wide range of criminal activities. Sly grog, razor gangs, and prostitution just to name a few.

Hello everyone! Welcome back to A Murderess Affair. It's been a while friends but I am SO EXCITED to be back and making episodes again. This week we're talking about Kate Leigh, Australia's Queen of the Underworld, and her rise to power. She also had a vicious and bloody history in Australia's Razor Gang War against fellow Australian kingpin Tillie Devine, and that's something that we're actually going to cover in next week's episode! If you're interested, make sure you follow the podcast wherever you listen to podcasts, and can't wait to hear what you think of this week's episode.

Let’s talk about the legend of Riina- called Melanasia’s female ghostbuster. She is known as the legendary leader of Pacific warriors who, when cannibalistic ghosts kidnapped two women from the Solomon Islands, rose to the cause and was able to rescue them.

This week we're talking about "Onake" Obavva, a South Indian woman who took on an army by herself in the late 1700s, smashing men over the head with a club as they tried to sneak one by one into her town. This is a story you won't want to miss.    Let's also talk about the Kaitlin Armstrong updates! Finally caught after 43 days on the run, here's what we know so far.

Annie Dookhan is a convicted felon who pled guilty to falsifying evidence that affected up to 34,000 cases in the state of Massachusetts. She worked as a chemist for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Drug Abuse Laboratory.  She was recently the subject of a Netflix series How to Fix a Drug Scandal and I highly recommend watching it if you haven't already

In the wake of the Roe v Wade decision, it is easy to feel hopeless, and angry. I wanted to make an episode that talked about the women who came before us, and how they fought against a system that was determined to deny them their basic human rights and access to healthcare.  Today we're going to talk about the Jane Collective, the women who came before us who helped women in need obtain abortion and healthcare at a time where they could be tried for felony murder.  About the recent Supreme Court decision, founder Heather Booth said,  "It's certainly against the promise of this country and against freedoms that we've worked so hard for. but we can make a difference and we can make a future...we need to turn our anger into action. because it's when we stay hopeless and helpless that we become victims. We are not victims, we are the hero of our story."

This week we're talking about current fugitive Kaitlin Armstrong, wanted in connection to the murder of Moriah "Mo" Wilson. Armstrong was last on surveillance footage at the Newark International Airport. US Marshals are currently offering $5,000 for any information in connection to her arrest.  Support the Wilson Family here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/moriah-wilson-fund This week I also had the pleasure of talking to @FanbaseWeekly and @refallisonleigh to discuss the latest in  #geek news! This was so much fun to do and an absolute blast to be on! Check out the full episode here: https://tinyurl.com/fanbaseweekly

This week we’re talking about Keumalahayati-one of the first female admirals of the navy in what would be modern day Sumatra, Indonesia. She is also known as Malahayati, and led an entirely female armada made up of women who’d been widowed.

This is a mini episode release because there is a currently breaking case! Jade Benning has been arrested on suspicion of a murder that was committed 26 years ago. Let's talk about what we know so far.    Check back on Friday for a full length episode!

5/11/22 • 05:01

Let's talk about Wu Zetian, also known as Wu Zhao, the only legitimate soverign female emperor to rule in Chinese history. Her story is full of controversy, and to dig through it is to untwist the many truths and lies that are found there.

In the 1950's the Dominican Republic was trapped in the cruel regime of Rafael Trujillo. It wasn't until three sisters both literally and figuratively slapped him in the face that the nation was able to turn against Trujillo's regime.

Today we’re taking a little trip to the Republic of Cyprus, an island nation south of Turkey in the Mediterranean Sea, in order to talk about Elena Skordelli. She was a television presenter who in 2010 was accused alongside her brother and another accomplice for murdering the CEO of Sigma TV, a company that Elena had recently been fired from.

Hello and welcome to A Murderess Affair. It’s black history month and to celebrate we’re talking about Stephanie St. Clair, who battled hardcore mobsters, police-both corrupt and not, and other gangsters who tried to take over the piece of New York she’d carved out for herself and taken control of. She’s probably one of the most badass women in history and I’ve been really looking forward to covering her story.

2/10/22 • 12:02

Today we’re talking about Fredegund the Assassin Queen-probably one of the most hysterically evil people I’ve had the fortune of reading about. In a nutshell, Fredegund was the epitome of every evil mistress or wife. A consort who gained the affection of a king, she either killed or hired someone to kill any who may get in the way of her and later, her son's reign.

Let's talk about Elize Matsunaga, who made headlines in Brazil when she killed her millionaire husband Marcos Matsunaga, dismembered his body, and disposed of the body parts in an abandoned wooded area outside São Paulo.  Her story has recently been featured in Netflix's most recent true crime docuseries called Elize Matsunaga: Once Upon a Crime.  Find Us Online - Website: [http://amurderessaffair.libsyn.com] - Twitter: [http://twitter.com/frumiousreads] - Merch: [http://frumiousreads.com/shop]   Credits - Host: Podcast Host. Twitter: [@frumiousreads], Website: [http://frumiousreads.com] About My name is Gabrielle, and this is the podcast where I talk about women in history known for mayhem and murder.  I've been a true crime fan for a long time, probably starting from when I was entirely too young. One of the things that I've noticed is that a lot of the movies, books, tv shows, and podcasts are dominated by stories of men. What else is new, right?  But, that's how the idea for this podcast was born. With a desire to share the stories of women, both past and present, that oftentimes get overlooked in the world of true crime. After all, feminism is about gender equality, and women can be murderers too.  Take a look around, find some murderesses that maybe you've never heard of before, and if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or recommendations, feel free to reach out on the contact page! I'd love to hear from you.  Stay spooky friends!

In this episode, we talk about Charlotte Badger and the mysterious, if oftentimes exaggerated, mark that she left on history. Rumored to be one of Australia's first pirates, a convict on the run, Charlotte Badger definitely has a story that you want to hear.

Ick ick ick ick ick okay guys this one is a gross one today, like even I was hesitant about covering this one because it’s really messed up so consider this your overall warning about Omaima Nelson and how she murdered her husband. She is most commonly compared to Hannibal Lector and Jeffrey Dahmer, some of the most famous cannibals out there so just know that’s where we’re going today.  Also; there's some updates to the Ghislaine Maxwell story that we talk about as she's someone we've covered in a previous episode if you're interested in checking that out!

Our story this week takes us to Ireland, and we’re not just talking about one murderess, but two. Sisters, who murdered their mother’s abusive boyfriend and became internationally known as the Scissor Sisters. Their names are Linda and Charlotte Mulhall, from Dublin, Ireland.

Today, we’re talking about Shayna Hubers, who I heard about in this wonderful book called Porn and Murder. This is an actual book that I own on my kindle account.  Shayna was convicted of murdering her on again/off again boyfriend Ryan Poston in 2012.

It’s October aka the best month of the year and it’s time to get spooky! Or, at least more spooky than usual. This month, we’re going to be tying our women to the tropes we find most often in horror movies.  Our first murderess?  A woman who strangled her best friend for around $2000. Her name was Guen Garlejo Aguilar and she murdered Jane Parangan La Puebla in the early 2000s.

Razia Sultana, South Asia’s first female ruler. She was a sultan who broke across many barriers, first female ruler being only one of them.

9/8/21 • 15:27

This week we're talking about Yang Kyin Hsiu, aka "Olive" Yang. She was royalty turned warlord, who’s CIA supplied army had opium delivery routes all across the golden triangle. This week, we’re talking about Marie Equi, a Wild West style of doctor who was devoted to provide care to those who were working class or poor.  She was one of the first 60 women to be a physician in Oregon, and was the only female doctor from the Oregon team to help with the 1906 San Francisco earthquake disaster.
