079 Do What Matters
" I think my favourite exercise when I started this book with my book coach was to write the publishers headline, and think about what I'd want people to say about the book. I'm going to share this with you now - let me know what you think!! "Insightful, unconventional, structured, and providing the reader with a framework that flexes to their needs and individual contexts and encompasses storytelling, practical advice and coaching in one comprehensive stream of thought, and provides you with the tools to make those tough career decisions with greater ease. It is a remarkably easy, thought provoking read"

078 Youth Perspectives 1 - Food Security
Belinda Ng, is a client, friend and inspiration to me. she shares her thoughts on employment at major corporations, and on food security in this episode. "The question that comes up for me is how much of this is really embedded within what they're doing? And it's true to their core purpose? Or is it really just, you know, controversial greenwashing. And that they're just kind of saying this, because it's kind of part of a cool, trendy thing that all companies are doing now. And they can have a lot of money to market themselves in this way. But I think actually, I'm more hopeful than I am cautious. There's the cautious element is more that it's making sure I still have that critical mindset that my education has really shaped me to have to not just take things at face value, but really try and explore deeper ask critical questions"

077 Abortion ESG
Abortion ESG is a term I've coined to describe the implications of abortion on the environment, the societies that form us, and the governance tha's meant to protects us. A friend introduced me to the term Cognitive Polyphasia where different knowledge and rationales live side by side in one person. And this is definitely something we are all experiencing when attempting to tackle complex issues in order to make deliberate choices. If we consider that all lives matter, the dissonance becomes even louder. Because we take so much life in the broad sense of bandwidth, in order that we may preserve our own. This is precisely the decision many women make of the people I know personally around the world who have gone through the ordeal of terminating a pregnancy. I don't recall meeting a single one who is proud of it, talks openly about it, or does not sometimes wonder what could have been.

068 Breaking Gender Bias - Thread by Thread
Sally Dear is the founder of Ducky Zebra, a childrenswear brand that challenges the outdated gender stereotypes found in high-street kids’ clothing. She was frustrated by the impact of gender stereotypes on her children. The language they were hearing, TV they were watching, games they were playing, and the clothes they were wearing, so she decided to tackle one of these areas, clothing, as a means to changing the narrative. During her early research she discovered the negative impact of the fashion industry on the world around us. It accounts for 10% of global carbon emissions and nearly 20% of wastewater. In the UK an estimated 350,000 tonnes of clothing ends up in landfill every year. She decided to run a different sort of clothing brand. Ducky Zebra supports slow fashion; and are passionate about reducing their environmental impact, being ethical and transparent. She’s won competitions, and features, and is working to build this revolutionary brand into a household name.

066 Making a Design Statement
Karen made her first garment at the age of seven. Having grown up with a black and gold singer sewing machine in the house, watching fabric come to life in her Mother's hands, she marveled at how a flat piece of fabric could be transformed and engineered into 3d clothes worn by the family. At 19, she started a small fashion business. She studied fashion design and fashion drawing at London's Central St Martin's School of Art. Later on she chose the predictability and dependability of corporate retail, immersing my geekish side into merchandising analysis.  KAIA Clothing represents a return to her earliest passion, with a desire to solve some of the sustainability challenges facing the industry in our lifetime. Sustainable Clothes| KAIA Clothing In this episode we talk about Karen's journey to building her sustainable clothing line. We discuss the role of culture and inequality in shaping our path and creativity. I enjoyed this conversation - I hope you do too!

057 Cop 26 Watch Season 4 Introduction
I’m supposed to have hope. To be an activist for change, an advocate for better ways of living with the flora and fauna and other humans on the planet, you have to believe a new future is possible, instead of being on track to hit 2.7 degrees of warming. As much as I’m a hopeful optimist, I am nagged by the pessimism of doubt, understandably because we’ve known about the coming crisis since the club of Rome report in the 1970s. Thats 50 years we had to start doing something, and now we leave a lot of work to get done in a short space of time. What fills me with hope, is that our young people are learning things we didn’t learn. Yes there’s a bit of carbon tunnel vision in that learning, but it still beats denial, which seems to have finally left the building. COP 26 takes place in Scotland over 2 weeks, and opinions are mixed on whether or not we will make meaningful change. Listen in to my experts and what they've got to share with you.
