Please welcome acclaimed actress Monica Guerritore to our show, who joins us to talk about her magnificent film, "Anna - The Untold Story" - about the life of legendary actress Anna Magnini, specifically set on the night of 1956 when Anna won the Academy Award for Best Actress for "The Rose Tattoo." She was the first Italian actress to win an Oscar. The film portrays Anna as a woman of immense strength and passion, navigating her private struggles and memories while wandering the streets of Rome. Monica wrote, directed, and also stars in the film, offering a rich portrayal of Anna the person as opposed to the cinema icon. It's an incredible story, told from the heart, and so beautifully acted by Monica, I was left speechless. I wanted to understand Monica's process in capturing the story of Anna, as well as her keen interest. The film, which debuted in Los Angeles for International Women's Day, also stars Tommaso Ragno, Beatrice Granno, and Lucia Mascino. I love a story about strong women, particularly Italian women. Today, I not only interview one - Monica - we talk about one as well - Anna. Please join me on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, #LittleItalyPodcast, and #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast. Please welcome one of the funniest guys in comedy today, Mike Marino, who hails from New Jersey, next to the town where I was born. Mike manages to turn circumstances from everyday life as a proud Italian-American into something we can all relate to - funny, relatable, ridiculous. He went on a campaign to "Make America Italian Again" which attracted a cult following. He hosts the popular podcast, "Live From My Mother's Basement," which is literally recorded in the basement of the home where he grew up. In fact, with the recent death of his parents, he bought the house, and starts each morning taking us on a LIVE walk around the neighborhood, sharing his thoughts of the day. And these days, there's a lot to share. While performing on a cruise ship last year, he became ill. Doctors found a tumor in his brain which they removed. Now he's on another campaign - to get healthy with the help of his beautiful fiancée, Heather. He's currently also working on a new TV special with the working title, "Mike Marino: Back 2 School," and he's back performing LIVE this week, so check his social for deets. Mike has performed at the Comedy Store, Laugh Factory, Carnegie Hall, and he's entertained veterans for which he earned the USO Bob Hope Comedy Award. He's also a successful actor, having appeared on Frazier and so many other shows and commercials. He's got a lot to share, not only about comedy, but about loss, family, being Italian, and his recent health scare that literally knocked him off his feet. Please find my full conversation with #MikeMarino on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, #LittleItalyPodcast, and #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here. And congrats, Mike, for being inducted into the N.J. Comedy Hall of Fame. @mikemarinolive #comedy #mikemarino #standup

Grief can be crippling both mentally and physically. It is one of the most complicated of human conditions, and often difficult to recover from. Today, we speak with someone who has been through it and writes to help others process their grief and get to the other side of living again. Please welcome Larry Freeborg, author of "Always At Choice," which helps people to realize they have the choice to move forward even from the most crippling grief. The book is rooted in Larry's personal experience when he simultaneously lost his wife to leukemia and his 18-year career due to an economic downturn. He was left to raise four children on his own and find work, too, all while grieving. It took some time, but Larry found his way back. In this book, Larry talks about how to reinvent yourself at any age, even if you feel stuck, and he offers practical strategies on how to do it. Please join our show today, and share with a friend, because we all experience grief at some time, and it's good to know we're not alone and important to share how to get through it. Please join my full conversation with Larry Freeborg on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here.

There was a time when there were very few female comics, but that's changed due in large part to the brave women who had the courage to stand up and speak their mind on stage. One of those women was  Judy Tenuta, considered one of the most unique and trailblazing comedians of a generation, cutting through the male-dominated profession with her sharp wit and style. And because of her, many women were subsequently able to break into comedy. Judy gained national recognition in 1987 after starring in the HBO special, Women of the Night, opposite Ellen DeGeneres and Rita Rudner. After that, she never looked back.  Judy passed away in 2022 from ovarian cancer, but she left behind a legacy and rich story to tell. Her life and career are the subject of an award-winning short titled, "It Happened: The Judy Tenuta Story," starring Taylor Blackwell, who wore many of Judy's costumes in the film. This is a story about breaking through barriers and not giving up, and believing in yourself even with others don't. Today, we welcome to our show Brent Mata, director and producer of "It Happened," who  speaks about the importance of telling Judy's life story with purpose and authenticity. Please enjoy my full conversation with award-winning filmmaker Brent Mata on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE. If you find yourself feeling exhausted and burned out, you're not alone. And you'll want to tune into our show to find out how to find your way back to feeling okay again. Please welcome Tracy Doyle, a successful entrepreneur with a multi-million dollar company who simply couldn't do it any longer. She was exhausted, not processing daily tasks clearly, and she hit rock bottom. But she found her way again, and wrote about it, "Life Storms: Finding Your Clear Sky," a proven self-help guide designed primarily for women who seem put together on the outside but are struggling on the inside. And that was Tracy. In fact, she nearly drove herself off a cliff. She created the Aurora Method, which are eight mindful practices designed to break negative cycles, regulate emotions, and restore connection with yourself and others in your life. She talks about what drove her to write this, and she believes early unresolved trauma and overwork caused her to mentally snap. Her goal - to help everyone else out there struggling mentally to find their way back to balance and clarity. Please find my full conversation with Tracy on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here. Today, I present an extraordinary true story for Women's History Month, written by Suzanne Cope, "Women Of War: The Italian Assassins, Spies, and Couriers Who Fought the Nazis." This is the untold story of the women who risked their lives to secretly pass messages, ammunition, and other secrets to help fight the Nazis who were occupying Italy in the 1940's. The book focuses on four women - in their early 20s - who would do their work on bicycle and on foot, carrying messages in a loaf of bread or hiding munitions in their overcoats, and risking their lives to do it. This is a hidden chapter of Italian history — women of the Resistance who fought Fascism and Nazi occupation while living their everyday lives. And what they did mattered, as told by author and journalist Suzanne Cope, who conducted meticulous research for this book. The women highlighted here carried notes, transported weapons, organized strikes, and committed acts of extraordinary bravery, yet their stories had been overlooked for decades. Until now. In fact, these stories are perhaps more significant as women face challenges around the world to stand up for their rights and freedom. Please find my full conversation with Suzanne Cope on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, #LittleItalyPodcast, and #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast. Very often, we don't need to speak to get our point across. In fact, a look or touch can speak volumes, and I'll be discussing that with Rob Thomas, author of "Wordless Connection: Deepen Intimacy Without Saying a Word." Rob's book provides a practical, five-step framework for couples to rebuild trust and closeness through nonverbal communication rather than the traditional "talking it out" method, which can often lead to arguments. Rob talks about specific silent techniques designed to increase empathy and intimacy, and uses neuroscience and behavioral research to illustrate how nonverbal cues, such as a touch or gaze, can deepen emotional bonds and reduce conflict. The gestures are subtle, but effective. We'll talk about it and even go through some exercises to illustrate. The work is done with purpose. For example, there's a simple hug, and then there's a hug with deeper meaning and intent. The idea is to engage with deeper care to provoke love and connection. And it works. We all need that tender touch and provocative look. It makes us feel good. Please find my full interview with #RobThomas on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE. There are more than 30,000 children in the foster care system throughout Los Angeles County. Once they reach legal age, they are on their own, often with no place to go, no job, family, and often with limited skills. Arzo Yusuf, executive director with Angels Nest, is working to change that. Angels Nest assists with transitioning youth from foster care into the world so these children can function as thriving adults. But it's hard. Nearly 33% end up homeless, 85% are sex trafficked, and 90% end up incarcerated. Clearly, something isn't working with these kind of statistics, and we'll talk about that and possible solutions to a system that has been in place for decades. Arzo's mission is to give these kids tools and finances to get a head start, providing services from rent support, educational assistance such as tuition, books, and laptops, groceries, and the list goes on. And she's had tremendous success. Imaging growing up in a chaotic household, only to end up in a foster system that abandons you. It seems unimaginable. And you can help, too.  Please find my fullinterview with Arzo Yusuf on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE. Mimi Nichter was 20-years-old when she was on TWA flight 741 to JFK after spending her summer on a kibbutz in Israel. But her flight was hijacked and redirected to Jordan where passengers were held captive for six days in unimaginable conditions. Most were sent home, but Mimi, falsely accused of being an Israeli soldier, was held hostage along with 31 others. This is Mimi's story of survival and courage as she and the others hostages navigated the uncharted waters of how to stay alive and find their way home. #Hostage recounts Mimi's dramatic time as a hostage, her release, and the aftermath of when she returned home. She was never the same, plagued with terrifying memories and PTSD that has haunted her for much of her life. She backpacked across Africa and Asia trying to release the trauma, but it was only buried deep inside of her until finally, she wrote about it. "Hostage" is her gift to herself and others facing unimaginable circumstances and coming out a survivor. Ever think of packing up and leaving? Let's face it, many of us have. With all the crazy happening in our country, from gun violence to a lack of affordable housing and healthcare, not to mention an education system that has been sub par, many have dreamed of packing up the kids and getting out of dodge. And that's just what our guest did. Meet David Schnurman, successful entrepreneur and author, "Eleven Suitcases: How Moving Abroad Changed A Family Forever," who says moving was the best thing he and his family ever did. Overwhelmed by the grind of raising three young kids in NY, David, the founder and CEO of Lawline, and his wife, Kelli, made a decision in 2019 while sitting at their kitchen table to pack up and move to Barcelona. What followed was a life of unplanned adventure, from treks in Morocco to mountain escapes in Spain. However, there were multiple challenges, like the lockdown, among others. But what unfolded changed their family forever - in unexpected ways. Now back in the States with his family and their eleven suitcases, David talks about their experiences and how it transformed them. Nearly 9500 homes, businesses, churches, and schools burned in the Altadena fires last year, and many in the community are facing foreclosure on their homes because there's been little movement to recover funds to rebuild. Rents are sky high for most, and they simply can't make ends meet. Developers are swooping in to make low ball offers to homeowners, and many are forced to settle because it's their only choice. Residents aren't getting much help from local, county, or state government, either, and it's time everyone steps up. Meet Heavenly Hughes, longtime Altadena resident and founder of My Tribe Rise, a grass roots organization that provides funding and resources for members of the community in need of housing, work, and a place to turn during this critical time. The residents of Altadena say they're trying to remain hopeful, but time is running out. They've asked Gov. Gavin Newsom to step in to ensure homeowners don't foreclose, because people still have to pay their mortgage even though there's no home, and they're paying rent at the same time. It's too much. Heavenly is working every angle to get people the help they need, and it's been a challenge. So we're talking with her about it on our show, and I hope you'll join our conversation and do what you can, too. You can find my full interview with Heavenly on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, and invite your friends, too. "It's Time To Talk $: A Woman's Guide To Navigating Money Conversations" provides a hands-on guide for investing and managing money, particularly for women, written by private wealth manager Sheila Schroeder. It's a smart guide for one's financial future, which women have traditionally not done and left for their partners to control. This book touches upon key points from legacy planning to learning about market trends, preparing for relationship changes, how to get your fair market value at work (men still get paid more than women), and more. Sheila said she decided to write this book after decades of experience working the global markets, but it's also personal. She needed to establish her own financial independence after navigating through a difficult childhood and watching her mother manage life with a controlling father. She talks about that in her book, and says planning, having an emergency fund, and learning to be financially literate is critical to surviving on your own or within a family unit. Please join me in welcoming Sheila Schroeder to all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here.

Lisa Price is one of the most sought-after interior designers in Los Angeles. Her clean, crisp style blends effortlessly with any genre, and she incorporates that with the needs and wants of her clients. I know, because I've been a client. But when Lisa and her family lost their home in the Palisades fire nearly one year ago, she decided to take on rebuilding with a fresh approach - using materials that are fire resistant, easy to order, install, and easy on the budget. Lisa joins us today to talk about building in the future with cost-effective measures that are sustainable, durable, and ultimately cheaper than more traditional methods. Lisa will walk us through the shock of losing her dream home in the Palisades, and how she immediately sought ways to make sure her new home could withstand any pressures nature might spring her way. For example, she is using steel instead of wood frame to rebuild, and she lists so many reasons why this is preferred, including for termites! And the steel is made from recycled cars, which is sustainable. We will also speak with Lisa about her journey as a businesswoman, starting as a staging company and ultimately selling her business to one of the largest in Los Angeles, providing her complete financial freedom. But it wasn't always so easy, and she built her business client by client, and Lisa Price Interiors has become one of the most trusted in the industry. Please join me in welcoming Lisa Price to #DeborahKobyltLIVE, and invite your friends, too. Bruno Serato, owner of the Anaheim White House Restaurant and founder of Caterina's Club, feeds literally thousands of children and families every day, and he's raising money so his Caterina's foundation can continue feeding literally thousands every day who would otherwise go hungry. And he joins us today to talk about it. Just last week, SoCal powerhouse radio station #KFIam640 (where my husband hosts the #JohnKobyltShow), teamed up with Bruno, Smart & Final, Wendy's, and De Cecco pasta to raise money and bunches of pasta and sauce so Bruno could continue doing what he does best - feeding hungry people. And the mission has been affectionately called #Pastathon. Already, they've raised close to $1-million dollars, and the campaign is still going, and he'll talk about how you can help. Now that's A LOT of Pasta! Bruno has become a friend over the years, and many of us call him a saint. His generosity was inspired by his mom, Caterina, who gave him the inspiration to feed hungry children in nearby Anaheim. He took the challenge, and so many years later, he's been recognized by Time Magazine, CNN Heros, the Pope, and others around the globe. We will talk with Bruno about his humble beginnings before moving to the United States, where his restaurant quickly became a fixture in Southern California. But he's faced plenty of tough times, too, like when his restaurant burned to the ground a few years ago, and his first thought was, "how will I feed the children." He rebuilt, and came back stronger than ever. Please join me in welcoming Bruno Serato on all audio and video platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, #LittleItalyPodcast, and our #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and I thank you for joining me.

There's a lot of talk about the changes in Hollywood, a city that has been at the center of moviemaking and TV production for nearly a century. So we invited producer and writer Alexia Melocchi, who co-authored the book, "The Heart of Show Business," to talk about what's really happening in this city of dreams. Alexia will discuss in detail a road map to navigating how work is getting done in this new era. "The Heart of Show Business" speaks with industry professionals from writers, directors, actors, athletes, and more, discussing how to stay ahead and win at every level. Each chapter offers career insights and professional advice from with a variety of successful individuals, including Blair Underwood, Keith Mitchell, Rev. Michael Beckwith, Jean-Michel Cousteau and many others. I found it deeply interesting to dive into the mindset of industry pros, a terrific tool for any profession. But in the ever-changing entertainment industry, it's critical to stay one step ahead. Whether it's Ai, digital, the business of acting, where the industry is headed, or how to learn the ABC's of filmmaking, Alexia offers an interesting perspective on what's next. Got high cholesterol? There's ways to manage it, and I'll be speaking with nutrition expert Amy Riolo & Dr. Simon Poole about their latest book, "Managing Cholesterol for Dummies." This is a comprehensive look into how we can manage cholesterol, inflammation, and oxidation levels in our bodies, in addition to addressing who might be at cardiovascular risk and how to safely manage it. The duo will show us easy lifestyle changes and healthy recipes to incorporate into our every day lives. We will also discuss how to understand "good" and "bad" cholesterol, because a lot has changed in recent years. Also, we could be at risk for cardiovascular disease and not even know it, and we will discuss those early warning signs. In addition, Amy and Simon will guide to us on what to ask our doctors, because let's face it, we often go to the doctor's office and leave with our questions unanswered. As for medicines, they will discuss treatment options, medicines, and holistic approaches to cholesterol management. So there's a lot to go over. Amy Riolo and Dr. Simon Poole have written a variety of "Dummies" books guiding us to better health and nutrition. Please welcome to our show internationally-acclaimed photographer, artist, and author Claudio Santini, whose thought-provoking work has inspired much reflection. When I visited Claudio in his Los Angeles studio recently, I felt I was in the presence of a true genius. His work spoke to me, including his latest collection, focused on capturing a quiet mental state to inspire a better humanity. Today, we'll speak to Claudio about his life and work, including an exhibit in Naples, Italy, currently running through December. Claudio was born and raised in Rome, Italy, and developed an early passion for photography. He started his career as an architectural photographer, later exploring the intersection of photography and painting through mixed media. Upon moving to Los Angeles, his work was featured in the New York Times, LA Times, and Domus. You've likely seen his work featured in major magazines, too. And in a world focused on Ai, I wanted to showcase the work of someone inspired by everyday events, people, and nature. Claudio captures the humanity of life just that way, pure and innocent, with texture. Please enjoy my full conversation with Claudio Santini on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, #LittleItalyPodcast, and the #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast. When famed tenor and songwriter Pasquale Esposito was growing up in Naples, Italy, the music of Enrico Caruso would play throughout his house, inspiring him to sing at the local church in town. His dream was to come to America, to study and eventually perform. And that's exactly what he did. Fast forward twenty-five years, and Pasquale is now performing internationally to critical acclaim, and on Dec. 10, he'll perform along side world-renowned conductor Maestro Carlo Ponti on the Broad Stage in Santa Monica, California, presenting a magical Holiday concert of American and Italian traditions through spirited carols and emotional Neapolitan melodies. And I'm honored to speak with both gentlemen today on my show. I've known Carlo for some time now, and not only am I a huge fan of his work, but I admire his incredible talent and creative style. I'm also honored to call him a friend. Most people know he's the eldest son of the beautiful and talented Ms. Sophia Loren and filmmaker Carlo Ponti, and one can only imagine life growing up among such talent. But not only did Carlo inherit his parents gift of performance, he's lived his life in service of the arts, having founded the Los Angeles Virtuosi Orchestra, which raises awareness and funds for music education in the Los Angeles area. He shares his gift of philanthropy with Pasquale, who founded Notable Music and Arts, a non-profit focused on promoting cultural exchange through music, dance, theater, film, visual arts, and literature. We'll talk with both of them about this, in addition to their work, life, and upcoming performance at the Broad on 12/10. welcome to our show an extraordinary woman, filmmaker, and human rights activist, Jihan K, whose documentary, "My Father and Qaddafi," unravels the disappearance of her dad, Mansur Rashid Kikhia, a peaceful opposition leader to Muammar Qaddafi who vanished when she was just six-years-old. The film seeks to piece together her mother's 19-year search to find her husband. Without any memory of her father, Jihan tries to reconnect with him and reconcile with her Libyan identity, taking on a reflective journey as she tries to piece together the memory of a man she barely remembers. Mansur Rashid Kikhia served as Libya's foreign minister, ambassador to the United Nations, and was a human rights lawyer. For many, he was a rising star who could have been the next leader of Libya. After serving under Qaddafi, he defected from the government and became an opposition leader. In 1993, he disappeared from his hotel in Egypt, never to be seen again. Jihan's mother, Baha Al Omary, a strong-willed Syrian-American artist, began searching for him, launching the family into an international political maze. Nineteen hears later, his body was found in a freezer near Qaddafi's palace. Through encounters with family, her father's colleagues, and historical archives, Jihan's search for truth evolves into a deeper curiosity, and we'll talk about that. Please find my full interview with Jihan on all video and audio podcast platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here.

David Goldblum's short film, "Big Rock Burning," is creating a lot of good heat for the pointed questions it's raising since the devastating fires that charred thousands of properties in Malibu and the Palisades (not to mention Altadena), and he joins our program LIVE to talk about his film and the harrowing experiences so many have had since leaving their homes on January 7th, returning to the ashes of a life that so many are struggling to put back together. The film depicts the stories of 49 Malibu residents impacted by the fires, and chronicles the resilient spirit of the residents of Big Rock, and their intent to rebuild. But little has happened in the months that have followed, and while people are still grieving, they want action and accountability. David says residents have been left to fend for themselves to sort through government red-tape and insurance nightmares, and they're growing weary. Their stories have attracted some celeb residents as well, such as Mark Hamill and Ricki Lake, who talks about losing her home and the emotional impact it's had on her and her friends and neighbors. Malibu is a multi-generational community and so many have lived in their homes since childhood. And while it's a peaceful community, it's not without its challenges, too, and the fire dangers are one of them. People know the risks, but many say they don't expect the lack of help and resources from local government, and the film addresses that. Please join our full interview with David Goldblum on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, and please encourage your friends to join, too. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here. The film is currently in the middle of its Oscar-qualifying theatrical run through 9/18 at the Laemmle in Santa Monica, so if you're close by, here's your opportunity to see it. @davidgoldblum @consciouscontactentertainment #filmmaker #movies

Please welcome to our show James Tumminia, award-winning actor, producer, and lover of all things Italian, beloved for his role as Angelo in the TV series, "Melissa & Joey" and much more. And we'll be talking with James about his work and how he gets his fix of Italian food and culture in this great city of LA. As a kid growing up in an Italian-American neighborhood in Brooklyn, James Tumminia knew two things: he loved all things Italian, and he wanted to be an actor. And he's living both. I first met James at an event at the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles, and noticed he seemed to be at every Italian gathering throughout the city - and there's many. So I thought it appropriate to invite him to talk about all things Italian, in addition to his life and career, as part of Italian-American Heritage Month. James studied Italian at Georgetown, which led him to living, studying, and working in Florence. He played Mario in "Two Scoops of Italy" a Hallmark film, and has been involved on the producer side of many projects, including, "Love, Guilda," "1st Strike," and many more. James said he feels the guidance of his ancestral grandparents, all four born in Italy, and he became an Italian citizen in 2009. He's currently working on a project he's super excited about, "PER CHI," a short doc he's producing. We'll be talking about that. And while James hails from NY and moved to LA to pursue a career in entertainment, he says Italy always feels like home, which is why he frequents so many Italian events in this great city. Please welcome #JamesTumminia on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, #LittleItalyPodcast, & #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here.

Please welcome to my show Dr. Sherry Ross, an expert on menopause from her years in practice as a beloved obstetrician and gynecologist practicing in Santa Monica. Dr. Ross is also a two-time author, "she-ology: The Definitive Guide To Women's Intimate Health. Period" and "she-ology, the she-quel," both tackling just about any question one might have about women's bodies. And there's a lot. For starters. Menopause. It used to be that word people whispered in the corner. No more. Because ladies, we all go through it, and gents, your significant others, mom, sister, daughters will go through it too. So let's understand it better, shall we? During our conversation, I'll be speaking with Dr. Ross about hormones and hormone replacement therapy. Is it safe (yes), when to start, and how to know what dosage is right for you. Of course there's estrogen and progesterone replacement, and testosterone, too. But for many women, hormones still remains a mystery, and we'll dive deep to clear up any myths about what's safe, recommended, and the benefits, too. Dr. Ross will soon be launching a podcast the first of the year, "Paradox" with renounced sex therapist Tammy Nelson. She's also in the wellness space, recommending products that she thinks have been tested to help women at various stages in their womanhood. We'll discuss. And men, this conversation is for you, too. Let's all get on the same page about women's health for better clarity and understanding. Please find my full conversation with #DrSherryRoss on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here. @drsherryr #womenshealth #womenshealthmatters #obgyn #gynecology #sexualwellness #sexualwellnessproducts #drsherry

Please welcome Puran and Susanna Bair, authors of "Living from the Heart," a book that approaches meditation from a different perspective - the heart. The duo will discuss how using heart-based meditation can completely transform our well-being, benefiting both the mind and body, and they'll explain exactly how to do it. The husband and wife team also founded the Institute for Applied Meditation, and have been working in this space for decades by improving the physical, emotional, and spiritual health of those who practice this type of mediation. Puran and Susanna say by coordinating our heartbeat with breathwork, we can achieve a level of meditation and relaxation like nothing else, which is ultimately healthier. They incorporate the energy of the four elements - air, fire, water, and earth - and will explain further how it's done during our interview. Please welcome Puran and Susanna Bair to our show, #DeborahKobyltLIVE, available on all video @iheartmeditation #iheart #PuranBair #SusannaBair

Want to live longer? It's all about our food. In fact, "we are what we eat" isn't just a phrase about weight. Maura Fanti, researcher at USC's longevity institute, has been connecting the benefits of calculated fasting and metabolism, inflammation, and a healthier life, and she says to live longer, we need to give our digestive system a break. Please welcome Maura to our show, who joins us to discuss how fasting doesn't just help shed pounds, it can increase our life span, too. She talks about the benefits to our liver, which we know filters out toxins in our systems, and she wants people to be educated to make healthy decisions because our lives literally depend on it. Maura is from Italy and studied at the University of Calgary before joining USC, and she points to how the American diet is so radically different from the Italian diet, and how incorporating proper fasting with certain foods can drastically reduce inflammation, which we all know is the culprit to declining health and weight gain. And we don't have to fast all day. Maura gives us practical tips on the best way to achieve a healthy fast without feeling famished. I met Maura at an event sponsored by @ItalyInLA and @IICLosAngeles, and we spent some time discussing how to get people to make healthy, which is often difficult, but perhaps approaching from a clinical perspective might be more beneficial. We'll talk about that, in addition to her early work in Italy, eventually leading her to Los Angeles. And she's one of our featured guests as part of Italian Heritage Month. Please welcome Maura Fanti to our #LittleItalyPodcast, #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast, & #DeborahKobyltLIVE. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and I thank you for joining us. @maurafanti #food #italianheritage

Italians are known for their vibrant culture worldwide, and when I hear the term, "it takes a village," I think of Vicky Colarossi Carabini, a woman who serves as her own village promoting Italian culture throughout Southern California. Please give a warm welcome to Vicky as one of our featured guests for Italian Heritage Month. Since 2007, Vicky Carabini has served as Ambassador to San Juan Capistrano's Sister City, Capestrano, Italy. She is Chair of the Italian Studies Council and Board Member of the Ferrucci Institute at Chapman University, which has one of the most active Italian Studies programs in the country. Vicky is also Regional VP for the National Italian American Foundation, aka NIAF, which promotes Italian heritage at its highest level through programs based out of D.C., and she's working hard to ensure California has a large presence within the organization. Vicky is also forever hosting fundraisers, Italian film nights, parades and food drives to keep the Italian community actively involved in Orange County where she lives. And if you're looking for something to do, check out her newsletter that keeps So Cal peeps informed on all things Italian. Why does this all matter? Because to keep our culture, or any culture alive and active within a community, it requires committed involvement, and that's Vicky. In 2003, Vicky and her husband, Michael, purchased a farmhouse in southern Tuscany and have been producing olive oil ever since. She and her family have since attained Italian citizenship and are now residents of Sarteano, where the farmhouse is located. In recognition of her work in 2020, Silvia Chiave, then Consul General of Italy in Los Angeles, knighted Vicky Cavaliere dell'Ordine della Stella d'Italia (Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy) on behalf of Italian President Sergio Mattarella. This honor is one of Italy's highest recognitions for Italians abroad and is awarded to those who distinguish themselves through philanthropy, cultural advocacy, research, and strengthening international ties. Bravo, Vicky! The world is such a complicated place, and the more we give and get involved in our communities, the better place it will be. Being of Italian heritage myself, I wanted to open this discussion with Vicky about how we can all be better stewards to our heritage and community, and we'll talk about that. Please welcome Vicky Colarossi Carabini on all video and audio platforms of #LittleItalyPodcast, #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast, and #DeborahKobyltLIVE. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here. @mammabini #italians #italianamerican #italianculture
