In Minute 22, the intro gets accidentally "sexy". We appologize. The minute begins with "The Bitch Squad" exiting a downed dropship and ends with Rita in a Hero's Pose. We get our first exposure to a Mimic in action, talk about the physics of Rita's "sword" and theorize about the mass and fighting capabilities of a Mimic. A nice discussion of the fx in Edge of Tomorrow, including the Tentacle Algorithm: https://www.fxguide.com/fxfeatured/live-die-repeat-the-effects/ Some video showing the algorithm at work in the animatic stage: https://youtu.be/iiKeTPL6HPk?t=79

Minute 23 opens on concerns for Rita's safety and ends on concerns for Cage's Safety Cage reunites with J-squad. We miss a great opportunity to make a "The Thing" analogy and instead make a vague call-back to "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" We discuss the ham-fisted Safety metaphor in detail. We make more than one Alien/Aliens reference Join our listener's group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/EdgeOfTomorrowMinute Check out the other Movies By Minutes podcasts listed here: https://moviesbyminutes.com/

More info here Video of the effects here We discuss the user interface of the Jacket's HUD and Weapons system and talk about the book (and blog): Make it So: Interface Design Lessons from Sci-Fi See the blog here: https://scifiinterfaces.com/ We give a short overview of the User Interface of Rita's Sword and the Mimic's fighting tactics. Minute 26 opens on Maggot #3 and ends in a fiery crucible. Our guest is Epidiah Ravachol https://twitter.com/Epidiah Game designer (Tabletop) , former midwesterner, podcaster and publisher. Find his games here Find his Sword and Sorcery magazine here Find his Rockford Files podcast here and here if you feel like patronizing In this episode, we discuss accelerating the timeline as a storytelling method, the idea that Cage's memory is his superpower, our personal chances at surviving a time loop. Once again we talk about Aliens, but Eppy does a good job of linking the lineage of Aliens to video games to Edge of Tomorrow. And somehow we wrap It's a Wonderful Life into it as well. We discuss some ideas for including time looping into Role Playing Games including one that was written by Eppy called Time and Temp and an un-named project in the works from his wife, also a successful indie game designer, Emily Care Boss

Minute 27 opens on Cage talking about the Forge and ends in the Crack of Farell's ass. We're happy to welcome back our returning guest Epidiah Ravachol Game designer (Tabletop) , former midwesterner, podcaster and publisher. Find his games here Find his Sword and Sorcery magazine here Find his Rockford Files podcast here and here if you feel like patronizing We talk about the Fiery Crucible's infamy, how to have fun when writing the same scene over and over again and Rashomon you way through it by changing the focus from loop to loop. We talk about memory again and the diminishing returns of subtlety and the Dragon's Lair/Space Ace style decision making. Finally we tackle Deja vu: Do you believe? Are there scientific explanations? Metaphysical explanations? How can you use it in fiction? How does Edge of Tomorrow take advantage of it? Unreliable memories? False Memories? Somehow we avoid talking about Aliens this time
9/8/21 • 25:23
Minute 28 begins with Sgt Farrell asking a series of semi-rhetorical questions and ends with Sgt. Farrell reassuring us that it's ok to be…something. We discuss the heavy-handed foreshadowing of the early loops in a time-looping movie, how sound mixing can help change the focus of a scene we've seen before, some rules of thumb for prosciutto ordering, and the basics of Jacket construction. Come join in the fun in our listener's group here Check out the rest of the Movies By Minutes podcasts here

Minute 29 begins with Farrell talking about Courage and ends with a trip to the beach. In this episode we theorize about Tom's theoretical rocky relationship with accents, we explore the liminal space between Deja Vu and Memory and look at why the "literal definition of insanity" is not doing the same thing and expecting different results. At least not when you're caught in a time loop.
