From Ovarian Cancer to Finding Her Birth Mother: Nadean Stone's Inspiring Story
In this made-for-movie episode, Nadean Stone reads excerpts from her memoir No Stone Unturned: A Remarkable Journey to Identity. Nadean was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1981, at a time when very little information and resources were available. However, that is not where Nadean's story begins. Six days after her birth, her mother gave her up for adoption, which led to a 44-year search for her birth mother utilizing DNA technology and innovative detective skills. Her search challenged the laws in Ontario regarding non-adoptees access to their birth records. In July 2018, Nadean filed a petition with the UN Commission on the Rights of the Child illuminating numerous Articles of the UN Convention that the Province of Ontario has violated in its treatment of illegally adopted children. She is currently exploring the transformation of her memoir into a television series.✨Highlights from the show:[00:02:25] Ovarian cancer diagnosis.[00:06:07] Difficult decision for more children.[00:11:49] Finding birth mother through DNA.[00:16:35] Creating a TV series.[00:20:17] Do not be defined by your challenges.📰 Blog: https://www.ontheotherside.life/post/from-ovarian-cancer-to-finding-her-birth-motherBirth Search Resources: https://www.nadeanstone.com/birth-search-resources/🕵️‍♀️🎗️Connect and learn more about Nadean:Website: https://www.nadeanstone.comFacebook:https://www.facebook.com/nadean.stone.92No Stone Unturned Book:https://www.nadeanstone.com/book/Link To From Ovarian Cancer to Finding Her Birth Mother:Listen on Apple Music, https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/navigating-cancer-together/id1580570728?i=1000641940617Listen on Spotify, https://open.spotify.com/episode/0XpTb1jKqGlShpQeQWaTVB?si=lFxrbUL6QrOR2-f5E_DYcgOther Episodes You'll Enjoy:How to Overcome Trauma with 3 F's and 4 Truths with Terry Tucker, https://smartlink.ausha.co/navigatingcancertogether/how-to-overcome-trauma-with-3-f-s-and-4-truths-with-terry-tuckerHow to Take Control by Seeking Answers and Truth with Bari Ross, https://smartlink.ausha.co/navigatingcancertogether/how-to-take-control-by-seeking-answers-and-truth-with-bari-rossWhen Cancer Joins the Freakshow of Life with Tess Scott, https://smartlink.ausha.co/navigatingcancertogether/when-cancer-joins-the-freakshow-of-life-with-tess-scott🎧Do you listen to music or podcasts on Spotify? ➕Add us to your listening queue. 💌Join the NCT newsletter to stay in the loop about new episodes, events, products, and services. How to Thrive Through Cancer with Guest Erika Wolf
Nine years ago, at the age of 43, Erika Wolf faced an advanced form of breast cancer head-on. She underwent traditional oncology treatments, but it was the discovery of integrative medicine therapies that allowed her to thrive during treatment and throughout recovery. Erika learned that much of the American oncology community does not widely support the utilization of complementary therapies. She advocated for herself to find and incorporate these therapies so that her entire being was cared for and treated as robustly as the cancer itself. Therefore, it has become her passion to share this information with as many people as possible. She believes it is important for patients to be aware, but moreover, that physicians, nurses, and other caregivers accept the efficacy of complementary care and advocate for the inclusion of these modalities as a regular part of oncology care and recovery. Erika lives in the mountains of Colorado with her husband and two dogs. She has worked in marketing and PR for the past 30 years and is the director of digital marketing for a non-profit based in Denver, CO.  ✨Highlights from the show:  [00:02:40] Integrative medicine and cancer care. The Importance of Black Breast Health and Why We Must Trial with Ricki Fairley
As a Triple Negative Breast Cancer Survivor/Thriver, Ricki Fairley's personal purpose, passion, mission, ministry, and blessing is to bring focus, attention, research, science, and action to eradicating Black Breast Cancer, and supporting and coaching what she calls her “Breasties” through their breast cancer experience. ✨A few highlights from the show:  1. Triple-negative breast cancer has high mortality for Black women, which is 41% higher compared to White women. Black women also get it three times the rate of White women. It is also the most aggressive type of breast cancer.  2.  Triple-negative breast cancer typically comes back and there is no drug at this time to prevent a recurrence. 3. A sugar pill is not offered in cancer research. All participants receive a drug. 4. A participant in a clinical trial receives a better quality of care. 5. Although 5 - 10% of breast cancer is hereditary, it is very important to know your family history of cancer. 🎗️️🛶 Connect and learn more about Ricki: Website: https://touchbbca.org/  Website: https://www.whenwetrial.org/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TouchBBCA  Instgram: https://www.instagram.com/rickidove/  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/touchbbca/  Twitter: https://twitter.com/RickiDOVE  Twitter: https://twitter.com/touchbbca  Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQwzFWCpWY-CsagdrOAQzcQ  Email: ricki@touchbbca.org Resources:  Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation, https://tnbcfoundation.org/  Black Doctor.Org, https://blackdoctor.org/  "The Doctor Is In" is a weekly web series on BlackDoctor.org Facebook Live on Wednesdays at 6 pm EST.  Related podcast episode with Reona Berry, https://podcast.ausha.co/navigatingcancertogether/how-breast-cancer-led-to-aabca-with-reona-berry  🦄About Me: In 2011, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, out of the blue.
