MindFULL conversations

MindFULL conversations brings "mindful conversations" to folks seeking practical information for self-awareness, and the ability to see themselves reflected in what inspires them, validates their insights, and normalizes what they're pondering. With actionable tips and useful conversations about career transitions, new ideas about books and the journeys it takes to write them, and creative perspectives that will shift you around life's everyday moments, MindFULL conversations unlocks what's inside of YOU.  This podcast will:  - Inspire you to take action. - Delight you with new ideas. - Encourage you to take one step toward your dreams. - Help you to find new ways of being in the world you hadn’t thought of. And how does this happen? By releasing something inside of the conversationalist, and the listener, with an engaging question. For over 30 years, your host, Robin Glickstein, Ed.M., was on the client and agency side of the business and collected 100s of ideas. She spent 25 years hearing 1,000s of personal insights from all kinds of people and learned to hone her questions and unlock insights. With nowhere to put all the ideas that she was having, Robin began The MindFULL Creative, a blog written from noticing how her mind was so FULL of inspirational stories and creative ideas (tips, insights, personal musings and awesome folks doing wonderful work, etc.).  She then went on to learn about a podcast that encouraged her to bring her ideas and insights to a new level. Prone to micro-conversations with folks in line for groceries, on planes and almost anywhere she goes, Robin's mind continued to be FULL and thus, MindFULL conversations (lower c) was born. In this podcast, you will hear conversations with guests who have made the leap to where they are today – and actionable strategies that can help you jump!

Welcome to my MindFULL conversation with Dr. Caroline Brookfield. Caroline is a speaker, veterinarian, an entrepreneur, a mom, a stand-up comic and an author. She believes that if we do one small thing every day, we will change the world. Caroline holds many schools of degrees from several colleges in Calgary and has a stand-up comedic license. She loves to make people laugh.  When I asked Caroline about some of her Dan Pink Giving Days she says, “Robin I will always remember how I met you!” She went on to tell the story of Dan Pink and of how she found his request for regrets to be rather odd – she didn’t realize that he needed REGREATS! Oy…And so it went along!  When I asked Caroline for several things to share with you guys, she said:Give them the example of Brownies for Your Fieldtrip. What is that I asked? And so, she told me. Ya gotta listen!Tell them to listen to Brene Brown. She’s an author that by now I suspect you should have heard of. She is amazing and down to earth. She told the story of how Brene Brown tells a story of Grief. Oh boy, listen there, too!DANCE. Daydream. Ambiguity. Novelty. Curiosity. Edit Later. FOR SHURE YOU MUST HEAR THIS!And so on, and so on. It just never ended. So, for you all, I leave this page open.  It’s a page of good cheer and good laughs. Funny coming from a veterinarian, who is also a stand-up comic. But hey, if ya can’t listen, you can’t laugh!  Robin has been a guest on several podcasts including Creative Lifescaping and Everyday Innovator. Sue Seserman is the Creator and Author of Epilectra, and she couldn't be more proud. The graphic novel reflects many of her own battles with, and successes over, different autoimmune disorders, all while trying to live a "normal" life. She was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2013 and with type 1 diabetes in 1993.The graphic novel conveys the crucial message that being different should not invoke shame, but rather pride in the strength it takes to manage a disability and deal with the unknowns and inconveniences it throws your way. Epilectra's motto is, "Your Difference Is Your Strength," and everyone is different in one way or another.Ms. Seserman is a creative writer, memoirist, and publicist who, prior to starting a freelance writing career in 1990, worked in sports marketing for Edelman Public Relations in Chicago and as the Director of Public Relations for George Lucas's computer and video game company, LucasArts Entertainment, in San Francisco. Today she resides in Denver, Colorado and New York City with her husband, Doug, and their wonderdog, Scooter. Epilectra will be published this Fall. It provide a sense of empowerment and possibility for anyone managing a disability, insight for their loved ones, and a wonderful entertainment experience for anyone who enjoys superhero adventures filled with one-of-a-kind characters. In this MindFULL conversation, Sue has 4 takeaways:Eplicetra is a Guide to show folks that no matter their circumtances, it's OK to reach for your dreams...and ask for help! People saw her as  Hero for taking public transportation to work with folks in the hospital. From Inc magazine, 21% of today's workforce has a disabilty, 4% disclose it, 28% of companies have hiring goals and 76% of college students don't want to admit they have a disabilty like dyslexia. Epilectra is to Team SEEZ (support & empower everyone zealously) as Captain America is to The Avengers. You can find Sue at:website: www.epilectra.comLinkedIn: Sue SesermanFacebook: Sue SesermanInstagram: EpilectraRobin has been a guest on several podcasts including Creative Lifescaping and Everyday Innovator. Whether you are Jewish, or not Jewish, I hope you will find this mindful conversation fascinating and helpful.Mark Horn is the author of Tarot & The Gates of Light: A Kabbalistic Path to Liberation. He may be the only person who has taught at both the Jewish Theological Seminary and the Readers Studio International Tarot Conference. Myth and sacred story have always been central to his spiritual path, and he uses both as a performing storyteller and a tarot guide. He applies his understanding of the archetypes in sacred stories from all traditions to the individual spiritual path of clients as they are revealed in readings. I had a reading with Mark and it is changing my life...A few takeaways from this MindFULL conversation:1. There is a Power greater than Us and anything we can do to cleanse our energy centers that can help us see, express and experience these energies, can be helpful.2. The Tree of Life  is a "map" that has 10 inner energies represented, and if you overlay it on the the Chakra system, they align and give you a way of examing how they manifest in you. We ALL have blocks and this practice is a way to purify with specific meditations. 3. Counting The Omer is a journey over a 49 day period (also learn why 49 days and what 49 days these are) and helps people clear spiritual and creative blocks inside so they can be free and more connected. Hi Everyone! Thanks for joining us for this amazing series on TRAVEL! It's similar to NAPODPOMO in the length of episodes (short MindFULL musings) and in the content I have found to share with you. I really hope you will find things in the series that will help you prepare for your trip, know what to take, watch what you eat, think about who you are meeting on the road and how to readjust when you return. Give a read, give a watch, give a listen! We hope you will walk away with 3 things that will have made this series worth it! It's a long one, but so was the plane ride. The book title is a mantra that today's Guest, Christy Beltz, has used for many years.  While she isn't sure where it originally came from - it stuck!  When she journals in the morning, many times she ends her pages with Oh God of Second Chances, Here I Am Again. Christy is the president of Empowerment Coaching and Consulting, a leadership development practice helping individuals and organizations focus on maximizing employee engagement to improve overall company performance. Christy guides her clients toward a conscious transformation using a mixture of human behavior motivation techniques, including the Leadership Circle, the Root Cause ™ system, HeartMath, Clarity International: SHIFT Training and Brené Brown’s Dare to Lead methodology.Christy’s lifelong dedication supporting women’s leadership has led to her role as Co-Curator with TEDxCherryCreekWomen. In this position, she works with TEDx speakers to guide presenters to stand in their own power and share an idea worth spreading with the world. Christy’s life’s work has been focused on lifting women up so they can step fully into their authentic selves. Our mindful conversation was Mind FILLING! Wowsa. I read the book and highlighted and post-it-noted more pages than I could have a conversation about! Check out the link below to buy Christy's book Oh God of Second Chances, Here I Am Again. And check out her website for more on her work and leadership course curriculum - http://christybelz.com3 Takeaways from today's conversation:1. We are ALL Whole, Perfect and Complete at the core of who we are.2. MSU - Making Stuff Up - We all do it! Christy gives us a tip for knowing when it is happening. There are Facts and there are Emotions about the Facts. Learning to identify them can help you. 3. HeartMath is one of Chrity's favorite techniques. Today's mindful conversation is with Ostap Manulyak (OS-TAP ManOOYA).Almost exactly a year ago, I had a spontaneous conversation with my friend John Yackus, who phoned  it in from the border of Poland, where he and other retired United pilot friends had joined the World Kitchen to distribute food to folks fleeing Ukraine. Sad to say, that today, the war is raging on. John and his friends went back to Ukraine last month and John met Ostap and called me and said, "I have a guy for you to talk with". Ostap Manulyak is an assistant professor in the Composition Department of the Lviv Music Academy and a co-founder of Art Association NURT, director of the Festival of electroacoustic music VOX ELECTRONICA and Experimental Educational Studio of Electroacoustic Music (EESEM) of Lviv Music Academy. During the 2018-19 academic year, he was a visiting researcher at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustic (CCRMA) of Stanford University (California) as Fulbright Fellow. He has recently received several awards. In 2020, he received the Mykola Leontovych Award for choral composition and in 2021, the Stanislav Liudkevych Award for works composed since 2018. In our MindFULL conversation, Ostap refered to many interesting web sites:Website links for Unarmed Civilians killed that are Culturally related https://apnews.com/hub/war-crimes-watch-ukraine A few stories which he translated to English  https://drive.google.com/file/d/16ZVv0y1Ogywl_YJkg8hDX0aBvjeaXZaV/view?usp=share_linkCarols of Bells link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shchedryk_(song)NYC – Ukrainian Festival https://www.ucmfnyc.com/And a  few stories about artists who joined Ukrainian Armed Forces https://ui.org.ua/en/culture-fights-back-2/Give a listen to our conversation! I think you will agree with him that keeping art initiatives alive is very important to showing that Ukraine stands tall and has not lost! Robin has been a guest on several podcasts including Creative Lifescaping and Everyday Innovator. Holy Moly, Friends! This episode took a direction that we did not expect. Usually, I give some background and then a few takeaways. Well, this time I have 1 Takeaway for you: 1. LISTEN! Especially to the first part. Here, Carol and I jump right into a Grounding Meditation. I love this meditation and use it often. I hope you will, too.Quickly, who the heck is Carol Ross? Carol  is a Coach I have worked with, on and off, for over 17 years. I met her through my husband and the Northwestern alumni network. Carol started out using only her head. Through the years, she dropped into her heart. Carol holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, both from Northwestern University. She has received training from Coaches Training Institute, Lucid Living, Center for Right Relationship, and Newfield Networks. She is a perfect blend of both.In this episode Carol mentions StoryCorps as a place to find ways to help you begin to think about telling your story: https://storycorps.org/You can also find Carol and her work here:easegracebelonging.com (Coming Home program)standoutandbelong.comemotionallyfitleaders.comRobin has been a guest on several podcasts including Creative Lifescaping and Everyday Innovator. In this episode, my friend Howard Waldstreicher, tells us how he re-invented himself at 59. Howard started out as a former software engineer, then became  a top-tier fitness trainer and post Covid, found his way back again to becoming one of the oldest data engineers at Facebook. Howard shares his stories and mindful insights. He proves that Life Experience cannot be taught, but new skills can. 3 Takeaways from Howard: 1.    Listen to your Mother – Howard’s Mother always said, “Never give up. It only takes one!” He sent out hundreds of resumes and almost gave up…2.    You can reinvent yourself by re-inventing your skills from something you might have done in the past. He was a programmer in his early days. He took classes and sharpened his modern day skills.3.    Return to work programs can help you find your way to something new. Howard found his way to Facebook through the career rentry program called iRelaunch. in keeping with February Food Month, today's Guest is Susie Miles, Host of the podcast Cooking and Convos.  For more than twenty years, Susie held positions at The Discovery Channel, National Geographic and a few television production companies in between. She served in many different roles in her career and while she mostly enjoyed the journey, she began to feel a rumbling inside her soul, whispering 'there has to be more to life than this. More than rushing around nonstop, sitting in hours of traffic each day and in long meetings, looking out the window, wanting to be somewhere else.' Then the pandemic hit... it took an unfortunate and catastrophic event to tell her that she needed the pivot. Now she brings healthy meals to her listeners and tips for making it all so simple. A few takeaways from our mindful conversation that filled our minds:1. Clean the kitchen everyday! After you make something , clean it up. It settles your Spirit and gives you a sense of accomplishment.2. Go through and organize your cabinets. You can do this one cabinet and one day at time. It doesn't have to be a big deal. For example, start with your spices. Go through, clean em out and add what you now need to your grocery list and viola' - you are done! Move on to another one another day! 3. Clean out your fridge, physically (wash it down) and use what is in there for a meal that night! Sautee' up old spinach with lemon and garlic, etc. In our conversation, Susie mentions her recipe for one of her favorite meals, Korean-Style Meatblass. You can find her recipe here: Recipe. She also mentions a few books that she likes:1. Bread Toast Crumbs by Alexandra Stafford2. One Pan Perfect by Donna HaysClick below to easily buy them! How often do you get to hear what a lawyer has to say about a movie involving our legal system and one of the most high profile films of the 2022 Holiday Season? In the beginning of December, I went to see the movie She Said about the Harvey Weinstein case, with Leora Joseph. I met Leora at a wedding and one mindful conversation led to another...Lucky us - Leora was  Deputy Chief of the Family Violence and Sexual Assault Bureau in the Boston (Suffolk County) District Attorney's Office.  Over 25 years of practicing law has brought Leora's empathy and intelligence to difficult conversations with thousands of victims. She has supervised specialized units involving the most vulnerable victims - human trafficking, domestic violence, sexual abuse, elder abuse - and oversaw all the District Attorney’s special projects and community involvement in areas of intimate crimes.Since moving to Colorado, she has been the Managing Chief Deputy District Attorney, Colorado Chief Of Staff in the Office of the Attorney General for Colorado, Managing Chief Deputy District Attorney, General Counsel and now is the Director Of Behavioral Health . Phew! That is quite the experience to use to fill our minds with insight about the movie and about the "collateral consequences" facing this generation. 3 Takeaways (actually there are many, but I try and give you at least 3) from our conversation - the gist of which is that we have to be open to difficult conversations and understand that opposite ideas can co-exist:1. Accountabilty and Victims Rights. We must learn not to judge. You can't know what you would do in someone's shoes. They do what is best for them and you have to respect that.2. Speaking of respect - we must learn to respect The Constitution/Rule of Law and The Public Interest.3. Learn to understand the nuance of Free Press and what it means for what we are told, how we are told and when we are told something that matters to our every day ways of living. Robin has been a guest on several podcasts including Creative Lifescaping and Everyday Innovator. Some of us have heard the phrase Dry January. In this epsiode, I'm supporting my friend, Kay Allison's mission to help professional women get free of alcohol to lose their anxiety, imposter syndrome, and stress. Being AF (alcohol-free) is the ultimate hack for life, career, and relationship success and Kay's new book, Juicy AF* (*Alcohol Free), is your how-to guide.Kay's insights, stories, and practical tools are helping women step out of their fear, anxiety, and shame and into their Juicy AF life to reach their full potential.I read the book and have heard Kay speak a few times. Here are a few of my takeaways:1. Kay lays out several spiritual principals. Following 1 a week can help you change your life perspective.2. Instead of a drink at night, I grab my favorite glass (for me, it is a habit of holding it at 5pm) and make a mock-tail. There are so many out there!  Kay also gives you other tips to fill the "drinking space".3. Write down your story of origin and flip it over. You'll see things you never saw before.4. The meditation on page 108. Buy the book and do it. Today’s MindFULL Musing started out as a full length episode, but once I gave a listen and spent all day trying to fix the audio, I decided to “take the best and leave the rest”. THE BEST is my guest, the ever mindful Rimi Chakraborty.  Listen in as she tells us about about a new kind of leadership for women that keeps us connected to our roots. It’s called ROOTsilience and it values the WHOLE being. What a concept! ROOTsilience  incorporates authentic leadership exercises that are practical ways we can embody principles of the Chakra system, with tools and foods that root us. Check out the ROOTsilience website for information on programs coming up with ROOTSilence: https://www.rootsilience.com/And while you are there, get your personalized ROOTSilence Leadership map and see where to focus so your path to well being isn't so overwhelming. Set aside about 20 minutes to go through the questions and get the feedback, FREE. https://www.rootsilience.com/f/the-rootsilient-leadership-mapAnd wait, there's more! You can join  Rimi on a retreat in the Azores at her luscious  lodge and retreat center, Feb 17-20, 2023. Today's guest brings a mindful approach to coaching adult children of aging parents. For years, Maggie Miller was an Executive Coach and has seen the kinds of things that you might be dealing with. She can help you take your jumbled ideas and make them actionable, stand beside you and support you and share resources and ideas - and how you can put them to work to help you help those you love. When you begin caring ABOUT an aging parent, and not necessarily FOR them (listen to Maggie describe the difference) you step into a job you didn't apply for! That's where having a Coach can be a life saver, for all involved. I called Maggie when I needed help. She shared resources and support that enabled me to step out of fear and into understanding.3 Takeaways from our conversation:1. Fear of the unknown can be alleviated by knowing what resources are available.2. Always a have a few Starbucks gift cards on hand to give to folks you meet along the way who are helpful - a small thank you! (I keep a few in my wallet)3. A list of questions you brainstorm ahead of time to ask helpers or navigate with parents, can smooth out a challenging conversation. Books Maggie recommends (please copy and paste book titles in and use my new support small book sellers link to buy and let me know if it works! I'll try and make it easier as I figure it out, too)  https://bookshop.org/shop/mindfullconversations1. The Mature Mind and The Power of the Aging Brain by Dr. Gene Cohen2. In this MindFULL Musing, I ponder how hard it can be to have , what I like to call, a Courageous Conversation. Those are the conversations that weigh on your  mind and heart. I mention Harriet Lerner and her helpful new book, Why Won't You Apologize? I also posted the link below to Brene Nrown and Harret LErner's conversation on the very topic. Give a listen. And then go forth and have that conversation. Let us know how it goes! Happy Thanksgiving! This MindFULL Musing is about 3 little letters...i...s...h...It's a mindful essay I received from a friend on Tuesday and I wanted to share it, hoping that it fills your mind and heart on this Thanksgiving with something unexpected. The essay is written by Lisa Culhane, Coach and Guided Autobiography teacher (yes, I believe in GA). I did some coaching with Lisa years ago, and what I learned from her still fills my mind. She sends a newsletter every so often, and I usually find something in it that fills my heart. You can find out more about Lisa, and her work, here: https://lisaculhane.comRobin has been a guest on several podcasts including Creative Lifescaping and Everyday Innovator. Today's NaPodPoMo's MindFULL Musing is on the Imposter Syndrome. It's something many folks have and yet, few talk about. Well, I talked about it with my Cousin Alyssa, who is a Coach to CEOs and she reassured me that many of us feel this way at different times in our lives. In this episode, I read an excerpt from a paper students at Stanford Business School receive - Therapists Find Many Achievers Feel They're Fakes by Daniel Goleman. Goleman is the Father of Emotional Intelligence. He oughtta know! Today's NaPodPoMo's MindFULL Musing is a conversation with my friend, Ricki, who just returned from a 4 week trip. How in the world do you pack for 4 weeks in a small duffle? Her tips will help you pack your bag, no matter how long you roam. Our conversation was inspired by my conversation with John Yackus, when he literally phoned it from The World Kitchen tent on the boarder of Ukraine and Poland.
