It's the final weekend for the two Calgary teams that made it to a national championship. Both Cavalry FC and the Mount Royal Cougars men's team were faced with snowy conditions in Ontario. Both matches went into extra time and both teams ultimately lost their games.We review Cavalry FC's 2-1 loss to Atletico Ottawa in a rather unforgettable match especially when it comes to the weather.The Cougars were a few hundred km to the southwest in Toronto but faced similar snowy conditions. We preview Cavalry FC's playoff match with Forge this weekend. Both of us expect an epic battle.The MRU Cougars men's team will face UBC in the Canada West final on Saturday afternoon at Mount Royal. We discuss the match with Cougars keeper Sjard Strauss. We also talk about how he ended up going to school in Canada, his career and his perspective of that wild match last weekend vs Victoria where he scored the winner in penalty kicks.Both the Cougars and Dinos women's teams lost in their semifinal playoff matches on Thursday evening. This weekend marked the end of the regular season for seven Calgary based soccer teams.  All seven of these teams will be headed to the post season next weekend.Cavalry FC wound up their season on Saturday afternoon where they drew Vancouver FC yet again.  However the single point was enough to clinch third place.  They will play the winner of HFX vs York in a match at Spruce Meadows on Sunday.There were two editions of the Crowchild Classic this weekend.  The Cougars women and Dinos men emerged victorious.  We have some post game comments from both Tino Fusco and Diogo Raposo.  The SAIT Trojans also racked up some wins on their way to the ACAC playoffs.Subscribe to our Substack or follow us on Twitter/X or on Instagram or Bluesky.Our website is yycsoccer.com

We recorded this episode in the McMahon Stadium press box immediately after the Calgary Wild's final match of 2025.  The Wild ended their regular season on a positive note, defeating the Vancouver Rise 2-1. Cavalry FC continued their push for third place on the weekend and battled Pacific to a somewhat disappointing 3-3 draw on Vancouver Island.  Manager Tommy Wheeldon Jr had another word before "poor" in his comments about defending, but I wasn't sure if adding it to the title would trigger explicit warnings for this episode.  We discuss the match.The Calgary Wild are finishing up their season playing for pride and their jobs. They faced first place AFC Toronto at McMahon Stadium on the weekend and suffered another 2-1 loss to the league leaders.  We review this match as well.There were a lot of USports matches over the weekend and we provide updates on all of them, including the Dinos men, who only captured 1 of 6 possible points.  The Cougars men had a win and a loss which keeps them in first place in the division.  The Dinos women maintained their unbeaten season while the Cougars beat the other Cougars and lost to Saskatchewan.The Calgary ACAC derby happened again over the weekend and as usual the SAIT Trojans swept the Ambrose Lions.  Both men's and women's Trojans teams have clinched playoff spots.A couple of former podcast guests found the back of the net in Europe this weekend.  We give updates about Bori Fayale and Kendall Showers in our final segment. Subscribe to our Substack or follow us on Twitter/X or on Instagram or Bluesky.Our website is yycsoccer.com

We review all of this weekend's matches involving Calgary area teams, both pro and post-secondary.The Calgary Wild broke their losing slide with a 2-0 win in Montreal. However, Vancouver's draw mathematically eliminated the Wild from playoff contention.Cavalry FC suffered a 3-0 loss to Ottawa that eliminates any hope of finishing top two in the table.The Dinos men's team had a dismal weekend, dropping both games they played in Edmonton. Our interview is with Dinos right back Mykena Walker. The fourth year player from Airdrie is part of the Dinos veteran core that's led the school to being ranked 3rd nationally. She talks about her time with the Dinos as well as playing for Blizzard as a youth and in League One Alberta. In our weekend recap episode, we discuss Cavalry FC's victory over Valour which clinched them a playoff spot. We also talk about USports action. The Dinos women drew Macewen to put an end to their perfect record. The Dinos men's team vaulted over the Cougars with a couple of wins while the Cougars could only get 1 point this weekend.Calgarian Willie Akio capped off his season playing in the Australian NPL state leagues this weekend. He scored a brace to lift his club to win their Grand Final.One common thread we noticed this weekend were all of the backflip celebrations. In the Cavalry match, both Goteh Ntiginee and Caniggia Elva wowed the crowd with their post goal celebrations. In Edmonton, Mykena Walker surprised the play by play person with a backflip after she scored. We interview Cavalry FC centre back Levi Laing about joining the club in mid-season, his career, and his thoughts on his performance as a member of the Cavs thus far. He also talks about his goal of playing international football with either England or Jamaica.The Calgary Wild lost to the Ottawa Rapid 2-1 on Wednesday night. An injury time goal by DB Pridham extends the Wild losing streak to five games. We review Cavalry FC's 3-1 victory over HFX Wanderers on the weekend. This match creates some space between the Cavs and Halifax for third spot in the table.  And if you were wondering what was the deal with Eric Kobza trying to get into the car as part of his goal celebration, we have the behind the scenes answer about what was happening.The Calgary Wild lost 5-0 to the Montreal Roses and McMahon on the weekend. The Calgary Wild were thumped 6-0 by the Vancouver Rise on the weekend. We recap the game and muse about why the wheels have fallen off over the last few matches. We preview the match and also discuss their new signing. Michelle Romero arrives after playing every minute for Venezuela in the Copa America. The Calgary Wild grabbed three points in Ottawa to break their losing streak. The Wild had been unable to have much success against the Rapid previously, but on Saturday they executed well and improved some areas of their game that needed it.Cavalry FC and HFX Wanderers played to a goalless draw at Spruce Meadows this weekend. Considering no goals were scored there was a lot to talk about in this match, including a disallowed goal called back by a phantom foul and a hand ball in the box that wasn't called. We discuss our thoughts and impressions about the match.  We also talk about Jay Herdman's loan and Daan Klomp becoming a free agent.The Calgary Blizzard secured the bronze medal at the League One Canada Inter-Provincial Championships. Our interview this week is with Moe El Gandour, who is the captain of the Calgary Blizzard League One Alberta team. This Blizzard team won the title last weekend, and we get a first hand account from him about the match. He gets into some of the details of why he decided to go for goal at the halfway line late in the match.Cavalry FC suffered another loss on Monday against Pacific. We recap that match and preview their game against Halifax on Saturday at Spruce Meadows. The Calgary Wild are off to Ottawa to play the Rapid on Saturday. We recap the pivotal final weekend of League One Alberta matches.  The Calgary Blizzard won the women's division on Friday evening at Broadview with a win over Villains.  The Blizzard men's team needed to wait until Sunday afternoon to lift their trophy. They prevailed in the final showdown against the St. Albert Impact.  We talk about both matches.The Calgary Wild played AFC Toronto at McMahon on Saturday.  Their offence showed some signs of life but they weren't able to defeat Toronto, who had one of their goals come from Calgarian Kaylee Hunter.We preview Cavalry FC's match vs Pacific on Monday afternoon.
