Wondery Presents: Frozen Head
Hosted by Ash Kelley and Alaina Urquhart from the hit show Morbid. When 90-year-old Laurence Pilgeram drops dead on the sidewalk outside his condo, you might think that’s the end of his story. But, really, it’s just the beginning. Because Laurence and others like him have signed up to be frozen and brought back to life in the future. And that belief will pull multiple generations of the Pilgeram family into a cryonics soap opera filled with dead pets, gold coins, grenades, fist fights, mysterious packages, family feuds, Hall of Fame baseball legends, and frozen heads — lots of frozen heads. From Wondery, comes a story about life, death, and what comes next. Follow Frozen Head on Amazon Music or wherever you get your podcasts. Wondery Presents Suspect Season 2: Vanished In The Snow
For more than three and a half decades, the disappearance of 12-year-old  Jonelle Matthews was a mystery – a riddle neither authorities nor her family members could solve. The residents of her cloistered Colorado hometown had scoured every inch of prairie. Jonelle’s face had been on milk cartons nationwide. Even the President of the United States had appealed to the public for help. Still, every lead had fizzled. Every person of interest had turned out to be a dead end.  Then, in 2019, Jonelle’s remains were unearthed near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. With the discovery came a troubling new question: Had the truth been hiding in plain sight the entire time? Was the man who couldn’t stop obsessing over Jonelle’s disappearance also the person who took her? From Campside Media and Wondery comes season two of SUSPECT. Former CNN reporter Ashley Fantz and executive producers Matthew Shaer and Eric Benson (Suspect, Over My Dead Body) dig into one of the most mind-bending cold cases in modern history, in an attempt to separate fact and fiction, compulsion from guilt, and true-crime fandom from a motive for murder. Episode 138: Shauna Howe | The Town That Dreaded Sundown
The story I have for you today will be, just as they always are, hard to get through, especially because it involves a child. Just around Halloween in 1992 a vicious crime would shock the blue collar town of Oil City, PA, changing it forever. In fact, the town would put a ban on night time trick or treating for 16 years after the case I am about to tell you, and even now the time is restricted to not go past 8 PM. Halloween is a time of great excitement for children. It is electric in the air, kids playing innocent pranks, mischief nights, talking about what they are going to dress up as, and of course, the promise of mounds and mounds of candy after trick or treating. But lurking beneath all that fun is a terrifying truth, something the good people of Oil City had to learn the hard way,  that monsters are real,  and sometimes they are the ones you least expect. Episode 126: The Route 40 Killer
According to statistics from the FBI only 1% of murders are the result of serial killers. Yet for some reason they occupy 99% of my brain when it comes to my true crime fears. But that is because they activate an innate fear that we have. A fear that we will fall victim to the only thing that is still truly terrifying to us as adults, the sometimes sadistic nature of mankind.  In 1987-1988 the state of Delaware, specifically the New Castle area, was gripped in fear. A man was abducting women from Route 40 and torturing them before brutally killing them. It would take long hours of good police work and a consultation with the Behavioral Sciences Unit of the FBI but eventually justice was won for the families of the five victims.  Sponsors: Babbel  for up to 60% off your subscription. Since the founding of the United States there has actually been many times that have tried the fortitude and resilience of it's men’s souls, but rarely has the convergence of several of these events occurred at one time.
