Teaching recorders in the elementary music classroom can be a challenge. In my "How do I use this resource" and video I provide detailed ideas about organizing the instruments and suggestions for management and curriculum. I usually teach recorders at the 4th and 5th-grade levels. Once all the instruments are ready, materials organized, and systems in place, the students enjoy playing the recorder. It is a great instrument to get students prepared for band or other instruments. =========================================== More information and details are in my BLOG at TrebleTreeMusic.com https://trebletreemusic.com/f/lets-organize-the-recorders-in-the-elementary-music-room===============================Let's keep in touch! When setting up keyboards for students in the elementary music classroom, it's important to plan ahead for space. Ensuring that each student has enough room to comfortably play their instrument is crucial for their success. By arranging the keyboards in a way that maximizes space and minimizes clutter, you can create an environment that is both functional and conducive to learning. This will help your students to focus on their music and make the most of their time in class. So take the time to plan ahead and create a classroom that is both efficient and enjoyable for everyone involved. Here is a fun music program for KINDERGARTEN. Pre-K and First grade would also like this program. This resource includes the songs: Goin’ to the Zoo, Animales (English/Spanish) perfect for a dual language class, Alison’s Camel, The Bear Went Over the Mountain, I Can’t Spell Hippopotamus plus The Wheels on the Bus.I checked with my classroom teachers about what time of year they wanted to do the music program. We looked at their curriculum and chose to use the theme of "Goin' to the Zoo" since they would be studying animal families. I am also lucky to teach near a city zoo and we scheduled our program around their visit. I have used this program for several years, making the cost of buying the extra resources affordable. There is only one piece selection you will need to purchase: This product contains the entire script I created for Goin' to the Zoo. I added decorative song lyric sheets both for teachers and students. Sheet music is included as needed. Here is a FREE template Fun With Rhythm Blocks in the Music Classroom to use for practicing writing rhythms in the elementary music classroom. This template uses "beat boxes" to reinforce the idea of a beat and the number of "things" that can be in a beat.I found these rhythmic dictation blocks and use them with this template. I also use them with my Music Writing Templates for the Elementary Music Room for Winter/Spring/Summer. These musical rhythmic dictation blocks are the perfect hands-on educational product for little hands and are a great idea for your rhythm centers, whole class activities, and "non-tech" or sub-days in your music classroom!I purchased these blocks on Etsy and I have included a link to purchase and how I use them in my classroom. The 4 beats of rhythm wood blocks are secured by the end pieces and rotate smoothly so all the pieces stay together. They are easy to pass out, easy to store, and easy for your students to handle and use! The seller also includes other ideas for use.

This is Part 3 in my series of getting organized with elementary music lesson planning in order to never plan music lessons again. Part 3: Yearly Planning Monthly Calendar is designed to plan how long a unit will take to teach and plan for other school activities that impact our daily teaching. Of course, small changes will need to be made from year to year, but having a master guide for all you do will save time and eliminate stress. Go to TrebleTreeMusic.com for more details.

PLAYING THE RECORDER IS FUN FOR STUDENTS! Using a "karate" belt system in the music classroom for measuring progress and rewarding success is a fantastic tool. I have used Music K-8 and Music Play Online Materials which are both fantastic. The challenge came with setting the rubrics, testing, grading, and recording the grades. I created a recorder belt test form for the students to complete before testing which saved me time. Details are included on steps to follow for the students and the teacher.Check my video on how to use the recorder test paper and recorder station in the classroom.

In most elementary music programs, there is only ONE teacher but lots of activities to manage. The challenge is finding a way to manage all the pieces and parts. Let's get started. As a music specialist, I have been lucky to work at schools where there was another music specialist, and sometimes an additional band or orchestra teacher. Most school music programs will showcase the students with grade-level presentations, musicals, holiday concerts, and travel experiences. Music events in the music classroom and school can be organized easier with a Google sheet template. The challenge is coordinating the scheduling and tracking of the many activities. Oftentimes, there will be a school secretary or administrator that will also help with planning and coordinating. But the norm is there aren't enough staff with extra time to do what needs to get done. Here is a link to my full BLOG with more details about the Google Sheet Activity Planner.

As a veteran music teacher, I know this isn't the only challenge but it is a starting point. Using BODY warmups in the music classroom is a great tool to bring the children into the ready zone for singing, playing instruments, and moving to music. This set of slides is designed to provide elementary music teachers with moving and vocal exercises to have fun and improve their singing skills. The slides are arranged sequentially by difficulty level. Each slide has directions on how to use the vocal exercise. Slides can be rearranged to focus on grade levels such as k-1, 2-3, and 4-5 or any way that works in your classroom.Included are movements such as stretch, and neck roll. Vocal warm-ups include correct breathing, tongue trill, and lip buzz. Also included are short simple melodies that use solfege, numbers, scales, and the music alphabet. These warm-ups can also be used to reinforce music concepts.I use these warm-ups at the beginning of each class. I project the slides on the overhead projector and have a student change the slides while I am at the piano.

I discovered that a presentation clicker works with my 33 Elementary Vocal Warm Ups for Everyday Use available in Teachers Pay Teachers Google slides on my overhead projector and laptop. As a music teacher, this was game-changing for me. I used some of these warm-ups at the beginning of every class. I was able to at the piano and click through our vocal warm-ups. It also allowed me to move around the room and check in with students while warming up but keeping the momentum moving forward. Check out the video to see how it worked for me. Here is a link to check out the clicker on Amazon. I do receive a small commission.

Here are some music classroom anchor charts for note and rest values. I found this to be a tremendous help in having a visual and physical reminder of names and values at the elementary level. The charts could also be used at other grade levels as well. Includes: Whole, half, quarter, eighth, sixteenth, dotted half, and a dotted quarter.Resource available at https://trebletreemusic.com/teacher-r....HOW DO I USE THIS RESOURCE:1. Download the resource. 2. Enlarge as needed for the size of your classroom, print, and laminate as needed. 3. Group in one area of the classroom for easy viewing. 4. I group the posters by most common and largest to smallest value and I use body motions to reinforce the name of each note. Check out my Blog and Video for detailed descriptions of the motions that I use for each note value. For example Whole Note = a big motion near the floor imitating a hole in the ground Half Note = Hat on the head motion for “half”.
